Brachial plexitis is characterized by acute onset pain followed by weakness due to dysfunction of the nerves comprising the brachial plexus. The exact pathophysiology of this condition remains unknown, but certain associations have been described in the literature. It is thought to follow recent infections, especially viral illnesses in 25-55% of the patient population. In this report, we describe idiopathic brachial plexitis in a patient following peripheral stem cell transplant. The acute denervation of certain nerves in the brachial plexus is suspected to be due to reconstitution of his immune system. In the literature, there have been no reports of such. Reporting this in this patient would lead to further recognition of this rare, but plausible etiology for this condition.
