Summary of "Genetic findings depend on the context of the study."

Our research group thanks Beuy Joob and Viroj Wiwanitkit for their letter, in which they highlighted the complexity of the genetics of allergic rhinitis (1). Our paper on the association of IL33 rs1342326 gene polymorphism with allergic rhinitis was a part of our prospective long-term follow-up of Finnish children who were hospitalised for bronchiolitis in early infancy (2). The IL33 rs1342326 was associated with allergic rhinitis and severe asthma at school age (3).

Investigations of operant ABA renewal during differential reinforcement.

Operant renewal is a form of relapse in which a previously extinguished response recurs due to a change in context. We designed two experiments to examine the impact of differential reinforcement of a...

Re-exposure to reinforcement in context a during treatment in context b reduces ABC renewal.

Previous work from our laboratory showed that intermittently re-exposing rats to reinforcement for lever pressing in a training (A) context, while eliminating lever pressing in a second (B) context, i...

Using DNA From Mothers and Children to Study Parental Investment in Children's Educational Attainment.

This study tested implications of new genetic discoveries for understanding the association between parental investment and children's educational attainment. A novel design matched genetic data from ...

Genetic drift during the spread phase of a biological invasion.

Recent theoretical and experimental models have evidenced the role played by evolution during species spread, and particularly question the influence of genetic drift at range edges. By investigating ...

ICETh1 & ICETh2, two interdependent mobile genetic elements in Thermus thermophilus transjugation.

Cell to cell DNA transfer between Thermus thermophilus, or transjugation, requires the natural competence apparatus (NCA) of the recipient cell and a DNA donation machinery in the donor. In T. thermop...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Morphological findings useful in differentiation and classification of results in CYTODIAGNOSIS and related techniques.

The influence of study results on the chances of publication and the tendency of investigators, reviewers, and editors to submit or accept manuscripts for publication based on the direction or strength of the study findings. Publication bias has an impact on the interpretation of clinical trials and meta-analyses. Bias can be minimized by insistence by editors on high-quality research, thorough literature reviews, acknowledgement of conflicts of interest, modification of peer review practices, etc.

Production of new arrangements of DNA by various mechanisms such as assortment and segregation, CROSSING OVER; GENE CONVERSION; GENETIC TRANSFORMATION; GENETIC CONJUGATION; GENETIC TRANSDUCTION; or mixed infection of viruses.

The discipline studying genetic composition of populations and effects of factors such as GENETIC SELECTION, population size, MUTATION, migration, and GENETIC DRIFT on the frequencies of various GENOTYPES and PHENOTYPES using a variety of GENETIC TECHNIQUES.

The effects on gene expression that depend on the location of a gene with respect to its neighboring genes and region of chromosome. Stable position effects are sequence dependent. Variegated position effects depend on whether the gene is located in or adjacent to HETEROCHROMATIN or EUCHROMATIN.
