Spontaneous external jugular vein pseudoaneurysm treated by thrombin injection: Case report and literature review.

Although external jugular vein (EJV) aneurysms are infrequent, regardless of etiology, spontaneous pseudoaneurysms (PAs) are extremely rare and generally require surgery. We describe a case of spontan...

A colorimetric and electrochemical dual-mode biosensor for thrombin using a magnetic separation technique.

In general, protein detection relies primarily on enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Here, we constructed a colorimetric and electrochemical dual-mode biosensor for thrombin detection based on the me...

Estimation of lipemia interference with automated HIL-test on d-dimer ACL TOP 50 series analysis - reveals a higher cut-off than manufacturer's recommendations.

Fibrin-d-dimer (d-dimer) is essential for the diagnosis and treatment of thrombosis patients. The new ACL TOP 50- series used for d-dimer determination, integrates a preanalytical interference check f...

Differential effects of direct factor IIa and factor Xa inhibitors in protein C-deficient plasma detected using thrombin generation and viscoelastometry assays.

Protein C (PC) deficiency results in dysregulated thrombin generation and increases thrombosis risk.

Mixed monolayer decorated SPR sensing surface for thrombin detection.

The development of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based immunosensor for thrombin detection was aimed. For this purpose, 3,3' Dithiodipropionic acid di (N-hydroxysuccinimide ester) (DSP):6-mercapto-1...

A Study to Compare Human Thrombin Against Bovine Thrombin in Its Ability to Stop Bleeding After Surgery

The purpose of this study is to see if Human Thrombin is as effective as Bovine Thrombin in stopping surgical bleeding within 10 minutes of application.

Generation of Thrombin and Prediction of Deep Vein Thrombosis Post Prosthetic Orthopedic Surgery of the Lower Limbs

The numerical ratio between the value of the thrombin generation test performed without soluble thrombomodulin and the value of the thrombin generation test performed in the presence of so...

Influence of Vorapaxar on Thrombin Generation and Coagulability

Currently, there are no data available regarding the effect of vorapaxar on clot generation kinetics or TIP-FCS when added to standard of care antiplatelet regimens. Potential reduction of...

Safety and Efficacy of Delayed Continuous Use of Bivalirudin 4 Hours After ePCI (COBER Study)

Since the development of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD), unfractionated heparin (UFH) and low molecular weight heparin (LWMH) have b...

Study of Recombinant Human Thrombin for Bleeding During Surgery

The purpose of this study is to determine whether recombinant human Thrombin (rhThrombin) is effective in stopping bleeding during surgery, in comparison with bovine thrombin.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Clotting time of PLASMA mixed with a THROMBIN solution. It is a measure of the conversion of FIBRINOGEN to FIBRIN, which is prolonged by AFIBRINOGENEMIA, abnormal fibrinogen, or the presence of inhibitory substances, e.g., fibrin-fibrinogen degradation products, or HEPARIN. BATROXOBIN, a thrombin-like enzyme unaffected by the presence of heparin, may be used in place of thrombin.

The time required for the appearance of FIBRIN strands following the mixing of PLASMA with phospholipid platelet substitute (e.g., crude cephalins, soybean phosphatides). It is a test of the intrinsic pathway (factors VIII, IX, XI, and XII) and the common pathway (fibrinogen, prothrombin, factors V and X) of BLOOD COAGULATION. It is used as a screening test and to monitor HEPARIN therapy.

A performance test based on forced MOTOR ACTIVITY on a rotating rod, usually by a rodent. Parameters include the riding time (seconds) or endurance. Test is used to evaluate balance and coordination of the subjects, particular in experimental animal models for neurological disorders and drug effects.

A vitamin-K dependent zymogen present in the blood, which, upon activation by thrombin and thrombomodulin exerts anticoagulant properties by inactivating factors Va and VIIIa at the rate-limiting steps of thrombin formation.

Death resulting from the presence of a disease in an individual, as shown by a single case report or a limited number of patients. This should be differentiated from DEATH, the physiological cessation of life and from MORTALITY, an epidemiological or statistical concept.
