Summary of "Magnesocenophane Catalyzed Amine Borane Dehydrocoupling."

The Lewis acidities of different [n]magnesocenophanes, 1a-d, were investigated computationally and found to be a function of tilt of the cyclopentadienyl moieties. Their abilities as catalyst in amine borane dehydrogenation/dehydrocoupling reactions was probed and C[1]magnesocenophane, 1a, was shown to effectively catalyze the dehydrogenation/dehydrocoupling of dimethylamine borane, 2a, and diisopropylamine borane, 2b, at ambient conditions. Furthermore, the mechanism of the reaction with dimethylamine borane, 2a, was investigated experimentally and computationally, and a ligand assisted mechanism with stepwise proton and hydride transfer and dimethylaminoborane as key intermediate was found to be the likely pathway.
