Summary of "Normative values for gastric motility assessed with the 3D-transit electromagnetic tracking system."

The Motilis 3D-Transit system allows ambulatory description of transit patterns throughout the gastrointestinal tract and offers an alternative method for studying gastric motility. We aimed to establish normative values for gastric motility assessed with the method.

Codeine delays gastric emptying through inhibition of gastric motility as assessed with a novel diagnostic intragastric balloon catheter.

The use of opioids as analgesic is on the rise, despite their inhibitory effect on gastric emptying. A novel feeding catheter with integrated intragastric balloon was developed to continuously assess ...

Normative Values for Esophageal Motility Assessed in the Physiological Seated Position for 16-Channel Water Perfused High-resolution Esophageal Manometry System and Postural Variations in Healthy Volunteers.

Consensus guidelines for performance and analysis of high-resolution esophageal manometry (HREM) recommend use of equipment, population and posture specific normative values. To provide normative valu...

A Novel Approach in Spinal Cord Stimulation for Enhancing Gastric Motility: A Preliminary Study on Canines.

Gastroparesis is commonly seen in patients with diabetes and functional dyspepsia with no satisfactory therapies. Dysautonomia is one of the main reasons for the imbalanced motility. We hypothesized t...

Wireless motility capsule compared with scintigraphy in the assessment of diabetic gastroparesis.

Gastroparesis is a potentially severe late complication of diabetes mellitus. Today, delayed gastric emptying (GE) is mandatory for establishing the diagnosis. In this study, we compared wireless moti...

Influence of Gastric Emptying and Gut Transit Testing on Clinical Management Decisions in Suspected Gastroparesis.

Gastric emptying scintigraphy (GES) or wireless motility capsules (WMCs) can evaluate upper gastrointestinal symptoms in suspected gastroparesis; WMC tests can also investigate lower gut symptoms. We ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

The complete summaries of the frequencies of the values or categories of a measurement made on a group of items, a population, or other collection of data. The distribution tells either how many or what proportion of the group was found to have each value (or each range of values) out of all the possible values that the quantitative measure can have.

A 106 amino acid (12 kDa) trefoil factor that contains two trefoil domains and associates with MUCIN-6. It is expressed in the GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT by cells of BRUNNER GLANDS; PYLORIC GLANDS and mucous neck cells. It inhibits GASTROINTESTINAL MOTILITY and GASTRIC ACID secretion and may help maintain the structural integrity of gastric mucus.

Abnormal distention of the STOMACH due to accumulation of gastric contents that may reach 10 to 15 liters. Gastric dilatation may be the result of GASTRIC OUTLET OBSTRUCTION; ILEUS; GASTROPARESIS; or denervation.

Bilateral dissection of the abdominal branches of the vagus nerve. It is used frequently in the surgical management of duodenal and gastric ulcers, as well as in physiologic studies of gastrointestinal secretion and motility.

Drugs used for their effects on the gastrointestinal system, as to control gastric acidity, regulate gastrointestinal motility and water flow, and improve digestion.
