Summary of ""Median paralyzing dose" and "multiple regression analysis", a new viewpoint to the research method of spinal cord injury."

Spinal cord impact is a mature method for building models of spinal cord injury (SCI). However, a common problem is that the degree of elicited paralysis may not be identical even though animals receive the same impact. We hypothesize that this difference may be caused by the difference in the secondary injury mechanism of SCI and there might be an impact dosage named "median paralyzing dose (PD)", similar as the "median lethal dose (LD)" in pharmacology. In addition, since SCI is a result of multiple mechanisms, we hypothesize that it is more suitable to employ multiple regression analysis to analyze the related factors for complete paraplegia. So the present study aimed to calculate the existence of PD and analyze the related factors of SCI-induced complete paralysis using logistic regression under the PD which represents identical primary injury.

Japanese Survey of Radiation Dose Associated With Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography - 2013 Data From a Multicenter Registry in Daily Practice.

Although coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) is frequently used for identifying coronary artery disease, no studies have investigated the radiation dose in detail in Japan. The aim of this ...

Age is a prognostic factor for the overall survival of multiple myeloma patients undergoing upfront autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

In this retrospective analysis, we evaluated the impact of age on the outcome of multiple myeloma (MM) patients who received an autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HCT) at our ins...

A cautionary tale of multiple-dose drug products: Fluticasone and salmeterol combination inhaler waste.

Some drugs can only be dispensed in multiple-dose containers. Multiple-dose packaging may pose a problem for hospitals in terms of drug wastage and cost. Oral inhalers, such as fluticasone propionate ...

Quantifying the effect of viewpoint changes on sensitivity to face identity.

Although faces can be recognized from different viewpoints, variations in viewpoint impair face identification ability. The present study quantified the effect of changes in viewpoint on sensitivity t...

Logistic regression analysis in observational study.

Logistic regression has been recognized as a commonly used method in epidemiological studies. However, in practice, many people only consider 'data' rather than 'study design' as important issue when ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Procedures for finding the mathematical function which best describes the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables. In linear regression (see LINEAR MODELS) the relationship is constrained to be a straight line and LEAST-SQUARES ANALYSIS is used to determine the best fit. In logistic regression (see LOGISTIC MODELS) the dependent variable is qualitative rather than continuously variable and LIKELIHOOD FUNCTIONS are used to find the best relationship. In multiple regression, the dependent variable is considered to depend on more than a single independent variable.

Methods used to take into account and incorporate spatial autocorrelation and regional variation into regression analysis models of data that has spatial dependency, and also to provide information on the spatial relationships among the variables.

A statistical analytic technique used with discrete dependent variables, concerned with separating sets of observed values and allocating new values. It is sometimes used instead of regression analysis.

The dose amount of poisonous or toxic substance or dose of ionizing radiation required to kill 50% of the tested population.

Mice selectively bred for hypersusceptibility to two-stage chemical skin carcinogenesis. They are also hypersusceptible to UV radiation tumorigenesis with single high-dose, but not chronic low-dose, exposures. SENCAR (SENsitive to CARcinogenesis) mice are used in research as an animal model for tumor production.

The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves that runs down the middle of the back which carry signals back and forth between the body and brain. It is protected by vertebrae, which are the bone disks that make up the spine. An accident that damages the verte...
