Exponential random graph model parameter estimation for very large directed networks.

Exponential random graph models (ERGMs) are widely used for modeling social networks observed at one point in time. However the computational difficulty of ERGM parameter estimation has limited the pr...

Inference of the generalized-growth model via maximum likelihood estimation: a reflection on the impact of overdispersion.

Recently, the generalized-growth model was introduced as a flexible approach to characterize growth dynamics of disease outbreaks during the early ascending phase. In this work, by using classical max...

Introduction of joint model and its applications in medical research.

In medical follow-up studies, longitudinal data and survival data are often accompanied and associated with each other, thus respective analysis of longitudinal and survival data might lead to biased ...

The Stochastic Delta Rule: Faster and More Accurate Deep Learning through Adaptive Weight Noise.

Multilayer neural networks have led to remarkable performance on many kinds of benchmark tasks in text, speech, and image processing. Nonlinear parameter estimation in hierarchical models is known to ...

Graph Laplacian Regularization for Robust Optical Flow Estimation.

This paper proposes graph Laplacian regularization for robust estimation of optical flow. First, we analyze the spectral properties of dense graph Laplacians and show that dense graphs achieve a bette...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Statistical formulations or analyses which, when applied to data and found to fit the data, are then used to verify the assumptions and parameters used in the analysis. Examples of statistical models are the linear model, binomial model, polynomial model, two-parameter model, etc.

A principle of estimation in which the estimates of a set of parameters in a statistical model are those quantities minimizing the sum of squared differences between the observed values of a dependent variable and the values predicted by the model.

Functions constructed from a statistical model and a set of observed data which give the probability of that data for various values of the unknown model parameters. Those parameter values that maximize the probability are the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters.

Theoretical models simulating behavior or activities in nursing, including nursing care, management and economics, theory, assessment, research, and education. Some examples of these models include Orem Self-Care Model, Roy Adaptation Model, and Rogers Life Process Model.
