The aim of this study was to review the latest research advances on the topics of the ovarian cancer tumor microenvironment and models of ovarian cancer.
Social media may offer support to individuals who are navigating the complex and challenging experience of cancer. A growing body of literature has been published over the last decade exploring the ways cancer survivors utilize social media. This study aims to provide a systematic synthesis of the current literature in order to inform cancer health communication practice and cancer survivorship research.
Reported associations of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with cancer risk are inconsistent, and data for the proteinuria-cancer relationship are sparse. We sought to quantify the associations of cancer incidence with eGFR and with proteinuria in a large population-based cohort.
Dysfunctional cell proliferation and death are the foundation of the malignant biological characteristics of cancers. In this study, we discovered that ZEB1 was positively correlated with hTERT in breast invasive ductal carcinoma samples at both the mRNA and protein levels. Further, our in vitro study in breast cancer cell lines confirmed that ZEB1 regulates hTERT expression at the mRNA and protein levels; thus, hTERT promotes or inhibits telomerase activity, and telomere length is either protected or reduc...
The International Agency for Research on Cancer classified both outdoor air pollution and airborne particulate matter as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1) for lung cancer. There may be associations with cancer at other sites; however, the epidemiological evidence is limited.
In May 2016, the Office of Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Division of Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment, of the National Cancer Institute convened a special workshop focused on the State of the Science: Cancer Complementary and Alternative Medicine Therapeutics Research. The current state of the science, gaps, and future opportunities were reviewed and discussed by a distinguished panel of experts in this field of research, and the highlights of this meeting are reported herein.
In January 2016, the Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance (the Alliance) convened a think tank of stakeholders from academia, government, industry, and patient advocacy to discuss gaps and opportunities in clinical and translational research in metastatic breast cancer. Priorities that emerged from the meeting included the following: the need for innovative preclinical model systems to study metastatic disease; increased sharing of resources and data; collaboration across cancer care teams and scientists; bior...
The aim of this study is to provide a summary report on recent research advances in ovarian cancer prevention, screening, and early detection that were presented at the 11th Biennial Ovarian Cancer Research Symposium in Seattle, Wash.
Clinical research nurses are essential in the coordination of clinical trials and the management of research participants. Without a stable, knowledgeable research nurse workforce, the conduct of research is affected. A research nurse residency is a novel approach to preparing new graduate nurses for the oncology research nurse role. This article will describe the development and content of the research nurse residency and how this approach is being used to address a need for clinical research nurses to sup...
Little research has been done to identify possible cancer-related fatigue (CRF) subtypes and to classify cancer survivors accordingly. We aimed to identify CRF subtypes in a large population-based sample of (long term) stage I-III colorectal cancer survivors. We also identified factors associated with the CRF subtypes.
Cell lines are extremely useful tools in breast cancer research. Their key benefits include a high degree of control over experimental variables and reproducibility. However, the advantages must be balanced against the limitations of modelling such a complex disease in vitro. Informed selection of cell line(s) for a given experiment now requires essential knowledge about molecular and phenotypic context in the culture dish.
Employment of mindfulness-based programs and techniques in the treatment of cancer patients have spread exponentially in the past decade. A large number of studies have proved the effectiveness of the program in the reduction of stress symptoms, depression and anxiety, and the improvement of sleep and mood patterns. The present study was done at Firebird Foundation and examines the effectiveness of the complex, MBCR (mindfulness-based cancer recovery)-based psycho-social intervention in the treatment of can...
With the focus on survivorship care-coordination between oncology and primary care providers (PCPs), there is a need to assess the research regarding the use of survivorship care plans (SCPs) and determine emerging research areas. We sought to find out how primary care physicians have been involved in the use of SCPs and determine SCP's effectiveness in improving care for cancer survivors. In this scoping review, we aimed to identify gaps in the current research and reveal opportunities for further research...
Therapeutic strategies against hormonal receptor-positive (HR+)/HER2+ breast cancers with poor response to trastuzumab need to be optimized.
Curing cancer by controlling the growth of the cancer cell is the objective of this paper. The growth of the cancer cell is analysed by the optimization programming. The algorithm is proposed for minimizing the rate of growth of the cancer cell. Hence the chaotic cancer became structured for the further research. This is an extended work of Warburg , where he defined the centre of the cancer cell, known by Warburg effect, but here we control the increasing radius of the cancer circle by the proposed Canc...
Black women are more likely to experience adverse effects from cancer treatment such as lymphedema. Thus, black women may particularly benefit from research regarding interventions to improve lymphedema. Herein, the authors report the challenges and strategies related to the recruitment of minority survivors of breast cancer and to the recruitment of survivors of breast cancer with lymphedema into the Women In Steady Exercise Research (WISER) Survivor Clinical Trial.
Conduct of cancer clinical trials requires coordination and cooperation among research and clinic teams. Diffusion of and confusion about responsibility may occur if team members' perceptions of roles and objectives do not align. These factors are critical to the success of cancer centers but are poorly studied.
Paul Timpson received his bachelor's degree from the University of Strathclyde, UK and completed his PhD under the supervision of Margaret Frame at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research and the University of Glasgow in 2002, working on Src kinases and Rho family GTPases in cancer cell invasion. He then moved to the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, Australia to work with Roger Daly on the actin-binding protein cortactin in several cancer models. Paul returned to the Beatson Institute in 20...
Experimental Design: Results: Conclusions.
Cancer care spans the spectrum from screening and diagnosis through therapy and into survivorship. Delivering appropriate care requires patient transitions across multiple specialties, such as primary care, radiology, and oncology. From the program's inception, the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) sites were tasked with conducting cancer care delivery research (CCDR) that evaluates structural, organizational, and social factors, including care transitions that determine ...
The aim of this study was to review the latest research advances on the mechanisms of initiation and progression of ovarian cancer.
