Use of Family Planning Methods and Influencing Factors Among Women in Erzurum.

BACKGROUND Our study aimed to determine the prevalence of family planning methods, socio-demographic characteristics and the relationship between pregnancy histories and usage of family planning methods among women aged 15-49 years old living in the Erzurum provincial center. MATERIAL AND METHODS This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study. From the total 106 669 women aged 15-49 years old living in the Erzurum provincial center, a sample of 627 individuals was selected. A questionnaire consisting of items...

The evidence needed to demonstrate impact: A synthesis of the evidence from a phased social and emotional wellbeing intervention.

Policy decisions are based on evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness of interventions; however, the quantity and type of evidence that is needed to demonstrate the effectiveness of an intervention is not universally agreed upon. The aim of this study was to collaborate with researchers who have not been involved directly in Family Wellbeing interventions to lead a review of characteristics of the Family Wellbeing intervention evaluation output to date, and to assess for evidence of the FWB interventio...

Did the Family Health Strategy have an impact on indicators of hospitalizations for stroke and heart failure? Longitudinal study in Brazil: 1998-2013.

The objective was to analyze whether socioeconomic factors related to the context and those related to the model of care-specifically the coverage of primary care by the Family Health Strategy (ESF)-had an impact on hospitalizations due to heart failure (HF) and stroke, in the State of São Paulo/Brazil between 1998 and 2013.

Correlates of affiliate stigma among family caregivers of people with mental illness: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Many studies have investigated the correlates of affiliate stigma among family caregivers of people with mental illness (PWMI). Thus far, no systematic review or meta-analysis has been conducted to synthesize these results.

Relationships between family resilience, breast cancer survivors' individual resilience, and caregiver burden: A cross-sectional study.

Caregivers of breast cancer survivors experience various types of burden, which in turn is linked to patients' physical and psychological status. Family resilience might be able to decrease caregiver burden and facilitate survivors' individual resilience, and individual resilience might be related to caregiver burden. Nevertheless, these relationships have not yet been confirmed.

Family history of coronary artery disease and adverse clinical outcomes in patients suffering from acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.

A positive family history (FHx+) of coronary artery disease (CAD) is a well-known risk factor for the development of coronary pathology in first-degree relatives. We sought to evaluate the association between FHx+ of CAD and clinical outcomes in patients presenting with a first ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Total Synthesis and Absolute Stereochemical Assignment of the Insecticidal Metabolites Yaequinolones J1 and J2.

A highly stereocontrolled total synthesis of (-)-yaequinolone J1 and (+)-yaequinolone J2 was accomplished using an Evans auxiliary to establish a syn-diol unit in an acyclic appendage to a preformed benzopyran core bearing a homoprenyl group. The first total synthesis of a complex member of this family of 3,4-dioxygenated 3,4-dihydro 4-aryl quinolin-2-(1 H)-ones also allowed the assignment of absolute stereochemistry, thereby suggesting the same for several members of this family of biogenetically related a...

Family characteristics and children's knowledge on cardiovascular risk factors.

Cardiovascular disease has the highest mortality rates than any other disease globally. Some major risk factors seem to be established in early stages of life suggesting preventive strategies as a major mean to reduce cardiovascular mortality. The aim of the present work was to investigate the role of socioeconomic status and family characteristics on children's knowledge and perceptions concerning cardiovascular disease risk factors.

Clinical Practice Guideline on Screening for Colorectal Cancer in individuals with a Family History of Nonhereditary Colorectal Cancer or Adenoma: The Canadian Association of Gastroenterology Banff Consensus.

A family history (FH) of colorectal cancer (CRC) increases the risk of developing CRC. These consensus recommendations developed by the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology and endorsed by the American Gastroenterological Association, aim to provide guidance on screening these high-risk individuals.

Complex overlapping concepts: An effective auditing methodology for families of similarly structured BioPortal ontologies.

In previous research, we have demonstrated for a number of ontologies that structurally complex concepts (for different definitions of "complex") in an ontology are more likely to exhibit errors than other concepts. Thus, such complex concepts often become fertile ground for quality assurance (QA) in ontologies. They should be audited first. One example of complex concepts is given by "overlapping concepts" (to be defined below.) Historically, a different auditing methodology had to be developed for every s...

Exponential Family Functional data analysis via a low-rank model.

In many applications, non-Gaussian data such as binary or count are observed over a continuous domain and there exists a smooth underlying structure for describing such data. We develop a new functional data method to deal with this kind of data when the data are regularly spaced on the continuous domain. Our method, referred to as Exponential Family Functional Principal Component Analysis (EFPCA), assumes the data are generated from an exponential family distribution, and the matrix of the canonical parame...

Quantitative Determination of MAR Hydrolase Residue Specificity In Vitro by Tandem Mass Spectrometry.

ADP-ribosylation is a posttranslational modification that involves the conjugation of monomers and polymers of the small molecule ADP-ribose onto amino acid side chains. A family of ADP-ribosyltransferases catalyzes the transfer of the ADP-ribose moiety of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) onto a variety of amino acid side chains including aspartate, glutamate, lysine, arginine, cysteine, and serine. The monomeric form of the modification mono(ADP-ribosyl)ation (MARylation) is reversed by a number of ...

Alcohol family history moderates the association between evening substance-free reinforcement and alcohol problems.

Behavioral economic theories of substance abuse posit that deficits in substance-free reward increase risk for substance misuse, but little research has examined potential moderators of this relationship, including dispositional risk factors. Here, we tested the hypothesis that young adult heavy drinkers with family histories of alcohol misuse would show a stronger association specifically between low evening substance-free reinforcement and alcohol problems compared to those without a family history of alc...

A Tick Cysteine Protease Inhibitor RHcyst-1 Exhibits Antitumor Potential.

We previously identified a potent and tight-binding inhibitor of cysteine proteases from Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides, RHcyst-1, which belongs to the cystatin type 1 family. Cathepsins, which are members of the cysteine protease family, participate in various pathological processes, including the initiation and development of cancers. The present study aimed to investigate the antitumor effects of RHcyst-1 and to explore the underlying mechanism of these effects.
