The absence of the pCO effect on dissolved Cs uptake in select marine organisms.

Ocean acidification have been shown to not affect the capacity of bivalves to bioaccumulation Cs in their tissue; but as this was studied on only one species to date. There is therefore a need to verify if this holds true for other bivalve species or other marine invertebrates. The present short communication confirms that in the scallop Mimachlamys varia and the prawn Penaeus japonicus, two species that supposedly have a record to preferentially concentrates this radionuclide, that bioconcentration of Cs w...

Antioxidant effect of the pequi oil (Caryocar brasiliense) on the hepatic tissue of rats trained by exhaustive swimming exercises.

Increased oxygen consumption and activation of specific metabolic pathways during or after physical exercise lead to the formation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. An investigation was made into the effects of pequi oil supplementation in protecting liver cells against injury resulting from oxidative stress. The experiments involved 20 male adult Wistar rats ( Rattus norvegicus). The animals were divided into four experimental groups: Group 1: sedentary control group; Group 2: exercise control group...

Mechanisms of change in group therapy for treatment-seeking university students.

The present study examined mechanisms of change in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills group and positive psychotherapy (PPT) group intervention, two treatments that have previously been shown to be effective at reducing symptoms of BPD and depression over a 12-week treatment protocol within the context of a college counseling center (Uliaszek et al., 2016). The present study is secondary data analysis of that trial. We hypothesized that change in dysfunctional coping skills use would be a specific me...

Selective ablation of the ligament of Marshall reduces ischemia and reperfusion-induced ventricular arrhythmias.

Cardiac sympathetic tone overdrive is a key mechanism of arrhythmia. Cardiac sympathetic nerves denervation, such as LSG ablation or renal sympathetic denervation, suppressed both the prevalence of VAs and the incidence of SCD. Accumulating evidence demonstrates the ligament of Marshall (LOM) is a key component of the sympathetic conduit between the left stellate ganglion (LSG) and the ventricles. The present study aimed to investigate the roles of the distal segment of LOM (LOMLSPV) denervation in ischemia...

Moreover, food craving trait, implicit and explicit attitude towards healthy food, and body composition were assessed. 53 participants provided complete data. ...

Comparative Study of Different Maternal Zinc Resource Supplementation on Performance and Breast Muscle Development of their Offspring.

Maternal zinc supplementation has a pivotal role in enhancing breast muscle development of the offspring. What is poorly defined is the impact of supplemental zinc from different sources on the offspring. Broiler breeders at 24-week-old were randomly divided into three treatments with six replicates of 40 hens each and respectively fed for 8 weeks with supplemental 0-(group Zn/C), 100 mg/kg organic-(group Zn/O), and 100 mg/kg inorganic-(group Zn/I) zinc. The male offspring from each nutritional treatment...

Ir-Catalyzed, Silyl-Directed, peri-Borylation of C-H Bonds in Fused Polycyclic Arenes and Heteroarenes.

peri-Disubstituted naphthalenes exhibit interesting physical properties and unique chemical reactivity, due to the parallel arrangement of the bonds to the two peri-disposed substituents. Regioselective installation of a functional group at the position peri to 1-substituted naphthalenes is challenging due to the steric interaction between the existing substituent and the position at which the second one would be installed. We report an iridium-catalyzed borylation of the C-H bond peri to a silyl group in n...

Efficacy of Recombinant Human Soluble Thrombomodulin in Treating Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation Complicating Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.

The prognosis for patients who experience hemostatic complications after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is poor. However, no report has investigated disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) caused by the complications of allo-HSCT without infection. Recombinant human soluble thrombomodulin (rhTM) was used to treat 12 episodes of DIC (n = 10; group 1) caused by allo-HSCT complications such as acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) or thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), and ...

I'll emulate you…only if you want me to: The impact of ingroup norms and status on the identification-assimilation relationship.

High identifiers are generally more willing to affiliate to their group and, as a result, perceive themselves and behave as prototypical members of their group. But is this always the case? The present research investigates the when and the why of the positive relationship between ingroup identification and assimilation by focusing on the role of the content of the injunctive ingroup norm (collectivistic vs. individualistic) and the ingroup status. Two experiments showed a positive identification-assimilati...
