Associations between metformin use and vitamin B12 level, anemia and neuropathy in patients with diabetes: a meta-analysis.

Metformin is the first line therapy for patients with diabetes. However, it may lower vitamin B12 (B12) level which could have hematological or neurological implications. The current study aimed to perform meta-analyses of all available studies on associations between metformin use and B12 level, anemia and neuropathy in diabetic patients.

Detecting Pioglitazone Use and Risk of Cardiovascular Events Using Electronic Health Record Data in a Large Cohort of Chinese Patients with Type 2 Diabetes.

Pioglitazone may have a protective effect on cardiovascular disease risk among type 2 diabetes patients but evidence from China is lacking. Our study aimed to investigate the association using massive electronic health records data from a Chinese cohort of type 2 diabetes patients.

Increased formations of neutrophil extracellular traps are associated with gut leakage in the patients with type 1 diabetes but not type 2 diabetes.

The aims of this study were to investigate the association of formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) with gut leakage not only in type 1 diabetes (T1D) but also in type 2 diabetes (T2D).

The effect of diabetes mellitus on the recovery of the alterations in renal functions and glomerular permeability following reversible 24-hr unilateral ureteral obstruction.

Following reversal of short periods of ureteral obstruction (UO), glomerular and tubular renal dysfunction recovers with time. Diabetes mellitus (DM) affects glomerular functions; thus, it is possible that the ability of diabetic kidneys to recover from UO is impaired. We investigated the impact of long-term DM on the recovery pattern of glomerular and tubular functions and the permeability function of glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) post-unilateral UO (UUO) reversal.

Endoscopic Bariatric and Metabolic Therapies: Another Tool for the Management of Diabetes and Obesity.

Endoscopic bariatric and metabolic therapies (EBMTs) have sparked significant interest as minimally invasive therapeutic options for weight loss. Although bariatric surgery remains an effective option for sustained weight loss and improvement in the metabolic syndrome, access and utilization are limited. Various EBMTs have been designed to emulate the physiologic effects of established surgical interventions, including space-occupying and non-space occupying gastric therapies, gastric remodeling procedures,...

HbA predicts long-term postoperative mortality in patients with unknown glycaemic status at admission for vascular surgery - an exploratory study.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and Diabetes mellitus (DM) represent major public health challenges and are tightly associated. To facilitate early diagnosis, HbA has been implemented as the preferred diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of type 2 DM. HbA , fasting plasma glucose (FPG) value and 2-hour post glucose load values were compared and evaluated to find which test best predicted mortality in patients with PAD.

Race and sex differences in rates of diabetic complications.

Studies on racial differences in diabetic complications are very limited. The objective of this study was to investigate the race and sex differences in diabetic complications between African Americans and whites with type 2 diabetes in Louisiana.

Ethnic disparities in relationship of obesity indices and telomere length in Asians with type 2 diabetes.

Obesity and shorter telomeres increase the risk for diabetes complications and mortality. However, the relationship of obesity and telomere length in diverse Asian population with type 2 diabetes (T2D) is not well understood. In this study, we examine the association of the baseline and changes in obesity indices, with telomere length in multi-ethnic Asian populations with T2D.

Prevalence of prediabetes by the fasting plasma glucose and HbA1c screening criteria among the children and adolescents of Shenzhen, China.

Prediabetes is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and all-cause mortality. No research in China has evaluated the prevalence of prediabetes among children and adolescents using the HbA1c criterion or the combined FPG-or-HbA1c diagnostic criterion, and researchers paid no attention to the distributions of blood glucose in Shenzhen, especially for juveniles.
