Transparent microparticles in water/sucrose solution.

Facile, one-step dispersion polymerization of heptafluoro-n-butyl methacrylate is shown to provide microparticles that can be made transparent in the bio-friendly medium of water/sucrose with a refractive index of 1.3770. Fluorescently labeled particles can be imaged 80 μm deep into the dispersion with 1 vol% concentration, using confocal fluorescence microscopy. Such particles can provide insights into (bio-)physical processes in aqueous environments.

The steady-state behavior of a dilute suspension of self-propelled filaments confined between planar walls subjected to Couette-flow is reported herein. Flow of condensed particles around a packing front visualized by drying colloidal suspensions on a tilted substrate.

A gravity effect was demonstrated for 10 nm particles drying in colloidal suspensions. The particles were well-dispersed and did not sediment. Diffusive ferromagnetic roller gas.

An ensemble of actively rotating ferromagnetic particles is used to realize an active roller gas. Here, we investigate the diffusive properties of such a gas in experiments and simulations.
