CD47 is a widely expressed cell surface protein that functions as an immune checkpoint in cancer. When expressed by tumor cells, CD47 can bind SIRPα on myeloid cells, leading to suppression of tumor cell phagocytosis and other innate immune functions. CD47-SIRPα signaling has also been implicated in the suppression of adaptive antitumor responses, but the relevant cellular functions have yet to be elucidated. Therapeutic blockade of the CD47 pathway may stimulate antitumor immunity and improve cancer ther...

The aim of this study is to report first preliminary results of patients enrolled in a phase II study that will investigate the activity and safety of docetaxel, oxaliplatin, and 5-fluorouracil (DOF) in combination with trastuzumab in human epidermal receptor-2 (HER-2) positive patients with advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancer.Treatment consisted of docetaxel 70 mg/m combined with oxaliplatin 130 mg/m on day 1, and continuous infusion 5-fluorouracil mg/m days 1-5 plus trastuzumab ...
Protein aggregation can be a major problem in the manufacturing of new biopharmaceuticals and there is a desirability for development of techniques that can predict the behaviour of new biopharmaceuticals early on in the development process. A technique that can be used to predict aggregation is self-interaction chromatography that is used to determine the second virial coefficient, B, but one of the limitations includes the need to immobilise every protein of interest. In this study a related technique, cr...
Tumors may evade immunosurveillance through upregulation of the indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) enzyme. Epacadostat is a potent and highly selective IDO1 enzyme inhibitor. The open-label phase I/II ECHO-202/KEYNOTE-037 trial evaluated epacadostat plus pembrolizumab, a programmed death protein 1 inhibitor, in patients with advanced solid tumors. Phase I results on maximum tolerated dose, safety, tolerability, preliminary antitumor activity, and pharmacokinetics are reported.
This was an innovative concept and a preliminary prospective series.
A strategy of immobilizing lead in the framework of ferrite-ceramic matrix, to reduce its environmental hazard was explored in this study. The mechanisms of incorporating lead into lead ferrites (δ-phase (2PbO·FeO), γ-phase (PbO·(2-2.5)FeO) and β-phase (PbO·(5-6)FeO)) was revealed by observing the phase transformation in the products. The δ-phase was dominantly formed at low temperature of 700-800 °C at Pb/Fe of 1/1-1/3. The significant growth of γ-phase was observed at 750-850 °C and Pb/Fe of...
We previously reported the 5-year results of the phase 3 IBCSG 23-01 trial comparing disease-free survival in patients with breast cancer with one or more micrometastatic (≤2 mm) sentinel nodes randomly assigned to either axillary dissection or no axillary dissection. The results showed no difference in disease-free survival between the groups and showed non-inferiority of no axillary dissection relative to axillary dissection. The current analysis presents the results of the study after a median follow-u...
The objective of this study was to compare two alkaloids (antioquine and tetrandrine) with verapamil; knowing that the smooth muscle respond to KCl and relationships with calcium. The effects of antioquine and tetrandrine, was studied in adults Wistar rat with modified methods used in the determination of aorta contractility and compared with verapamil effect in the same assays. The analysis of the effect of a drug or extract on aortic reactivity included maximal relaxation or maximal contraction (Cmax) (Ph...
This paper presents a novel interferometric method for the simultaneous spatially resolved analysis of an object under test regarding the phase transmission function and the magnitude and orientation of the (uniaxial) birefringence. The measurement strategy is based on variations of the phase and polarization and processing the interference patterns so obtained. With this method, which is very similar to the classical phase-shifting interferometry, a complete analysis of birefringent properties of the objec...
A chromatic method is described for providing a preliminary indication of unacceptable bilirubin levels in a newly born baby in order to avoid the development of serious mental deficiencies. The aim was to investigate the reliability of a new chromatic approach using a novel template unit for a preliminary, non-invasive monitoring of the skin tissue of newly born babies with jaundice and its capability for use with different mobile phone cameras. A description of the monitoring system is given along with an...
Introduction - The prevalence of sexual dysfunctions has increased over the last decades; despite a number of available treatments for erectile dysfunction (ED), premature ejaculation (PE) and Peyronie's disease (PD), still several unmet therapeutic needs deserve to be fulfilled. The aim of this review is to detail on phase I and II clinical trials investigating novel medical treatments for ED, PE and PD. Areas covered - We conducted a systematic review of the literature including both published and on-goin...
One of the major challenges in drug development is the delivery of therapeutics to the central nervous system (CNS). The blood-brain barrier (BBB), which modulates the passage of molecules from the CNS, presents a formidable obstacle that limits brain uptake of therapeutics and, therefore, impedes the treatment of multiple neurological pathologies. Targeted nanocarriers present an excellent opportunity for drug delivery into the brain leveraging on endogenous receptors to transport therapeutics across the B...
This Letter presents the first complete six dimensional phase space measurement of a beam in an accelerator. The measurement was made on the Spallation Neutron Source Beam Test Facility. The data reveal previously unknown correlations in the six dimensional phase space distribution that are not visible in lower dimensionality measurements. The correlations are shown to be intensity dependent.
Balanced multi-ion channel-blocking drugs have low torsade risk because they block inward currents. The Comprehensive in vitro Proarrhythmia Assay (CiPA) initiative proposes to use an in-silico cardiomyocyte model to determine the presence of balanced block, and absence of J-Tpeakc prolongation would be expected for balanced blockers. This study included 3 balanced blockers in a 10-subject per drug parallel-design; lopinavir/ritonavir and verapamil met the primary endpoint of ΔΔJ-Tpeakc upper bound
The results of the single-arm, open-label extension phase of the Grafix (cryopreserved placental membrane; CPM; Osiris Therapeutics, Inc, Columbia, MD) multicenter, blinded, randomized, controlled clinical trial for chronic diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) is reported.
Young patients with breast cancer treated with chemotherapy can experience ovarian failure, which can lead to chemotherapy-induced menopause (CIM) impacting the quality of life (QoL). A prospective study was set out to evaluate the impact of CIM on QoL in women of childbearing age with non-metastatic breast cancer, and this article reports results of the interim analysis conducted to evaluate feasibility and to see preliminary results.

The gas-and particle-phase polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were collected from the air of Liaodong Bay in May and August to investigate their occurrence and gas/particle distribution. The 24 PAHs were analyzed for gas-and particle-phase samples, and the concentrations of total gas-and particle-phase PAHs were found to be 28.8 ng·m and 24.0 ng·m, respectively. The concentrations of the gas-phase PAHs were higher in August than in May, and the concentrations of the particle-phase PAHs were higher in...

We perform a nonperturbative study of the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) in the two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) by deriving a dimensionally reduced high-temperature effective theory for the model, and matching to known results for the phase diagram of the effective theory. We find regions of the parameter space where the theory exhibits a first-order phase transition. In particular, our findings are consistent with previous perturbative results suggesting that the primary signature of a first-order EWPT...
