Free Active Chlorine in Sodium Hypochlorite Solutions Admixed with Octenidine, SmearOFF, Chlorhexidine, and EDTA.

The therapeutic effects of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) solutions are dependent on the levels of free available chlorine (FAC). Mixing these solutions with irrigants can result in significant reductions in FAC. Although the effect of some irrigants on FAC is known, the effect of other commonly used irrigants is not. Thus, the therapeutic ramifications of the concurrent use of these on the efficiency of NaOCl solutions is not known.

The Effect of Water on Rheology of Native Cellulose/Ionic Liquids Solutions.

Cellulose coagulates upon adding water to its solutions in ionic liquids. Although cellulose remains in solution with much higher water contents, here we report the effect of 0-3 wt.% water on solution rheology of cellulose in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BMImCl) and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate (EMImAc). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and polarized light microscopy were also used to study water absorbance to the solutions. Tiny amounts of...

Carbon dioxide capture by aqueous ionic liquid solutions.

Confined water in aqueous solutions of imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) associated with acetate and imidazolate anions react reversibly with CO2 to yield bicarbonate. Three types of CO2 sorption in these "IL-aqueous solutions" were observed: physical, CO2-imidazolium adduct generation and bicarbonate formation (up to 1.9 mol of bicarbonate/mol of IL), resulting in a 10/1 mol/mol total absorption of CO2 relative to imidazolate anions in the presence of water 1/1000 (IL/water). These sorption values are ...

Structure of water molecules from Raman measurements of cooling different concentrations of NaOH solutions.

The Raman spectra of different concentrations of NaOH solutions have been successfully obtained at normal pressure by cooling. The results indicate that the icing point and the ice phase transition temperature of NaOH solutions decrease with increasing concentrations. Particularly, the different concentrations (2, 4, 6 or 8 and 12M) take place the liquid- III- Ih, liquid- V- Ih, liquid- VI- XV and liquid- IX- VI phase transition, respectively. In addition, the three peaks of around 3524, 3580 and 3624cm(-1)...

Adsorption of Pb and Zn from binary metal solutions and in the presence of dissolved organic carbon by DTPA-functionalised, silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles.

The ability of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA)-functionalised, silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles to adsorb Pb and Zn from single and bi-metallic metal solutions and from solutions containing dissolved organic carbon was assessed. In all experiments 10 mL solutions containing 10 mg of nanoparticles were used. For single metal solutions (10 mg L(-1) Pb or Zn) at pH 2 to 8, extraction efficiencies were typically >70%. In bi-metallic experiments, examining the effect of a background of either Z...

Phase Equilibria and some Properties of Solid Solutions in The Tl5Te3-Tl9SbTe6-Tl9GdTe6 System.

Phase equilibria in the Tl5Te3-Tl9SbTe6-Tl9GdTe6 system were experimentally studied by thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and microhardness measurements applied to equilibrated alloys. Some isopleth sections, isothermal section at 760 K, and also projections of the liquidus and solidus surfaces, were constructed. A continuous series of solid solutions was found in this system. Solid solutions crystallize in the tetragonal Tl5Te3 structure type.

Core-shell silver nanoparticles in endodontic disinfection solutions enable long-term antimicrobial effect on oral biofilms.

To achieve effective long-term disinfection of the root canals, we synthesized core-shell silver nanoparticles (AgNPs@SiO2) and used them to develop two irrigation solutions containing sodium phytate (SP) and ethylene glycol-bis(β-aminoethyl ether)-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid (EGTA), respectively. Ex vivo studies with instrumented root canals revealed that the developed irrigation solutions can effectively remove the smear layer from the dentinal surfaces. Further in vitro experiments with single and multi-...

Removal of antibiotic sulfamethoxazole by zero-valent iron under oxic and anoxic conditions: Removal mechanisms in acidic, neutral and alkaline solutions.

Removal of antibiotic sulfamethoxazole (SMX) by zero-valent iron (ZVI) was examined in the range of pH from 3.0 to 11.0 under oxic and anoxic conditions to clarify mechanisms of SMX removal in acidic, neutral and alkaline solutions. SMX removal was affected by solution pH and related to the speciation of SMX. Under the oxic condition, the maximums of SMX removal efficiency and rate were obtained at pH 3.0. The SMX removal efficiency decreased from 100 to 32% with increasing pH in the acidic solutions (3 ...

Partition-Based Solutions of Static Logical Networks With Applications.

Given a static logical network, partition-based solutions are investigated. Easily verifiable necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained, and the corresponding formulas are presented to provide all types of the partition-based solutions. Then, the results are extended to mix-valued logical networks. Finally, two applications are presented: 1) an implicit function (IF) theorem of logical equations, which provides necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of IF and 2) converting the differenc...

Classes of Hydrodynamic and Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulent Decay.

We perform numerical simulations of decaying hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic turbulence. We classify our time-dependent solutions by their evolutionary tracks in parametric plots between instantaneous scaling exponents. We find distinct classes of solutions evolving along specific trajectories toward points on a line of self-similar solutions. These trajectories are determined by the underlying physics governing individual cases, while the infrared slope of the initial conditions plays only a limited r...

Considerations for Visualizing Comparison.

Supporting comparison is a common and diverse challenge in visualization. Such support is difficult to design because solutions must address both the specifics of their scenario as well as the general issues of comparison. This paper aids designers by providing a strategy for considering those general issues. It presents four considerations that abstract comparison. These considerations identify issues and categorize solutions in a domain independent manner. The first considers how the common elements of co...

Zooming in: From spatially extended traveling waves to localized structures: The case of the Sine-Gordon equation in (1+3) dimensions.

The Sine-Gordon equation in (1+3) dimensions has N-traveling front ("kink", "domain wall")- solutions for all N ≥ 1. A nonlinear functional of the solution, which vanishes on a single-front, maps multi-front solutions onto sets of infinitely long, but laterally bounded, rods, which move in space. Each rod is localized in the vicinity of the intersection of two Sine-Gordon fronts. The rod systems are solutions of the linear wave equation, driven by a term that is constructed out of Sine-Gordon fronts. An a...
