Musculoskeletal Radiology Teaching at a UK Medical School: Do We Need to Improve?

The United Kingdom is currently facing crisis due to a shortage of radiology consultants despite ever-increasing demand for medical imaging. The specifics of how best to teach radiology has generated increasing interest. This study aims to determine whether musculoskeletal (MSK) radiology teaching at the University of Nottingham (UoN) Medical School is perceived to be satisfactory by medical students, Foundation-Year doctors, and senior medical professionals in preparing students for the demands working as ...

The Foundation Pharmacist Project: exploring new models of dual-sector postgraduate pharmacy training.

To explore the experiences of primary care-based professional stakeholders in a dual-sector training programme for foundation pharmacists.

Examining the role of sub-foundation soil texture in chlorinated vapor intrusion from groundwater sources with a two-layer numerical model.

In this study we investigate the role of the sub-foundation soil texture in determining groundwater source-to-indoor air attenuation factors. A three-dimensional numerical model was used to simulate a series of two-layer scenarios, involving different sub-foundation and deep soil textures, foundation types and groundwater source depths. The results indicate that if the sub-foundation soil permeability is larger than 10 m, the convection dominates the soil gas transport into the building, and the indoor ai...

Foundation species enhance food web complexity through non-trophic facilitation.

Food webs are an integral part of every ecosystem on the planet, yet understanding the mechanisms shaping these complex networks remains a major challenge. Recently, several studies suggested that non-trophic species interactions such as habitat modification and mutualisms can be important determinants of food web structure. However, it remains unclear whether these findings generalize across ecosystems, and whether non-trophic interactions affect food webs randomly, or affect specific trophic levels or fun...

Oral bisphosphonate prescription and non-adherence at 12 months in patients with hip fractures treated in an acute geriatric unit.

A poorer functional status at the time of fracture is a predictor of non-adherence to oral bisphosphonates initiated after a hip fracture, and suggests further opportunities for optimization of secondary fracture prevention in this high-risk population.

The tamoxifen paradox-influence of adjuvant tamoxifen on fracture risk in pre- and postmenopausal women with breast cancer.

Our data demonstrate that tamoxifen does not reduce fracture risk. Close surveillance is necessary to prevent bone loss in premenopausal women with breast cancer upon treatment initiation.

Mediterranean diet and hip fracture incidence among older adults: the CHANCES project.

The association between adherence to Mediterranean diet (MD) and hip fracture incidence is not yet established. In a diverse population of elderly, increased adherence to MD was associated with lower hip fracture incidence. Except preventing major chronic diseases, adhering to MD might have additional benefits in lowering hip fracture risk.
