Postoperative disseminated intravascular coagulation in a pregnant patient with Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome presenting with acute intestinal obstruction: Case report and literature review.

Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare condition which usually manifests as multiple hemangioma-like skin and gastrointestinal lesions. The latter often present with chronic bleeding. There is no consensus regarding the optimal management of such patients. Although rare, complications such as intestinal intussusception might occur, demanding surgical treatment. Postoperative complications such as coagulation disorders can increase morbidity and should be timely addressed. This is the first report...

Solving an emergency rescue materials problem under the joint reserves mode of government and framework agreement suppliers.

Emergency rescue material reserves are vital for the success of emergency rescue activities. In this study, we consider a situation where a government owned distribution center and framework agreement suppliers jointly store emergency rescue materials. Using a scenario-based approach to represent demand uncertainty, we propose a comprehensive transportation pattern for the following supply chain: "suppliers-government distribution center-disaster area." Using a joint reserves model that includes the governm...

The objective of this study was to compare poly-allyl diglycol carbonate (PADC) track detectors from different suppliers for linear energy transfer (LET) spectrometry and neutron dosimetry. PADCs are commonly used for passive personal neutron dosimetry, where a common approach is to couple the PADC with a plastic radiator to generate secondary charged particles. The neutron dose can be estimated using the track density or the average LET of the secondary particles. The characterisation of PADC in terms of L...

ZnO Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator for the Kinetics Study of Human Blood Coagulation.

Miniaturized and rapid blood coagulation assay technologies are critical in many clinical settings. In this paper, we present a ZnO film bulk acoustic resonator for the kinetic analysis of human blood coagulation. The resonator operated in thickness shear resonance mode at 1.4 GHz. When the resonator contacted the liquid environment, the viscous loading effect was considered as the additional resistance and inductance in the equivalent circuits, resulting in a linear relationship with a slope of approximate...

Two-incision laparoscopic appendectomy for a severe hemophilia A child patient with coagulation factor VII deficiency: Case report and review of literature.

The main complication of patients with severe hemophilia is recurrent bleeding events that usually affected musculoskeletal contractures. And replacement therapy methods were continuously improved to minimize adverse impacts brought by those complications. However, only several cases reported about the appendectomy for hemophilia A. We report a case of acute appendicitis treated by two-incision laparoscopy in a boy with hemophilia A and coagulation factor VII deficiency for the first time.

Information on quality requirements and objective evaluation of performance of veterinary point-of-care analyzers (POCAs) is scarce.

Rational and timely haemostatic interventions following cardiac surgery - coagulation factor concentrates or blood bank products.

Cardiac surgery may cause a serious coagulopathy leading to increased risk of bleeding and transfusion demands. Blood bank products are commonly first line haemostatic intervention, but has been associated with hazardous side effect. Coagulation factor concentrates may be a more efficient, predictable, and potentially a safer treatment, although prospective clinical trials are needed to further explore these hypotheses. This study investigated the haemostatic potential of ex vivo supplementation of coagulat...

When Less is More: Effects of the Availability of Strategic Options on Regulating Negative Emotions.

Research in several domains suggests that having strategic options is not always beneficial. In this paper, we tested whether having strategic options (vs. not) is helpful or harmful for regulating negative emotions. In 5 studies (N = 151) participants were presented with 1 or more strategic options prior to watching aversive images and using the selected strategic option. Across studies, we found that people reported less intense negative emotions when the strategy they used to regulate their emotions was ...

Strategic disruption of nuclear pores structure, integrity and barrier for nuclear apoptosis.

Apoptosis is a programmed cell death playing key roles in physiology and pathophysiology of multi cellular organisms. Its nuclear manifestation requires transmission of the death signals across the nuclear pore complexes (NPCs). In strategic sequential steps apoptotic factors disrupt NPCs structure, integrity and barrier ultimately leading to nuclear breakdown. The present review reflects on these steps.

Logopenic Aphasia due to a Strategic Stroke: New Evidence from a Single Case.

Among primary progressive aphasias (PPAs), logopenic variant PPA (lv-PPA) is usually related to Alzheimer's disease. Although it has been widely clinically and pathologically evaluated, the topography in LPA is still controversial. We report a patient presenting with a logopenic syndrome due to a strategic lesion located in the superior and middle temporal gyrus and compare our findings with those of a PiB-PET positive lv-PPA patient matched by age, gender, and education. We consider that our study provides...

Successful Resuscitation Following Massive Obstetric Hemorrhage in a Patient of the Jehovah's Witness Faith: A Case Report.

Hemorrhage is a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is especially difficult to treat in patients of the Jehovah's Witness faith because they refuse certain blood products. This case report describes the resuscitation of a parturient Jehovah's Witness whose postcesarean delivery course was complicated by massive hemorrhage from unrecognized arterial bleeding in the intensive care unit with significant hemodynamic instability that necessitated an emergency bedside laparotomy. Her h...

Coagulation management in patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures.

Management of coagulation in neurosurgical procedures is challenging. In this contest, it is imperative to avoid further intracranial bleeding. Perioperative bleeding can be associated with a number of factors, including anticoagulant drugs and coagulation status but is also linked to the characteristic and the site of the intracranial disorder. The aim of this review will be to focus primarily on the new evidence regarding the management of coagulation in patients undergoing craniotomy for neurosurgical pr...

Infrared analyzers for breast milk analysis: fat levels can influence the accuracy of protein measurements.

Currently, there is a growing interest in lacto-engineering in the neonatal intensive care unit, using infrared milk analyzers to rapidly measure the macronutrient content in breast milk before processing and feeding it to preterm infants. However, there is an overlap in the spectral information of different macronutrients, so they can potentially impact the robustness of the measurement. In this study, we investigate whether the measurement of protein is dependent on the levels of fat present while using a...

Social networks, market transactions, and reputation as a central resource. The Mercado del Mar, a fish market in central Mexico.

Fish consumption in Mexico is considered low (around 12 kg per person per year) and non-homogeneously distributed across the country. One of the reasons for this situation is the scarcity of wholesale selling sites. In this context, the Mercado del Mar (MM), located in Guadalajara city, Jalisco, is the second biggest wholesale fish market in Mexico, with a distribution of about 500 tons per day and a variety of about 350 different species of fish. In this paper, we argue that MM has accumulated social capit...

Study on the method and mechanism of pre-pressure coagulation and sedimentation for Microcystis removal from drinking water sources.

In order to effectively remove the Microcystis from drinking water sources, pre-pressure treatment was first used to make the Microcystis lose buoyancy and easy to be removed by the following coagulation and sedimentation processes. The water containing Microcystis from Taihu Lake was taken for the pre-pressure coagulation and sedimentation treatments in this study. Both intermittent laboratory experiment and continuous-flow field experiment were studied to clarify the mechanism of pre-pressure enhanced coa...

Assessment of the protein interaction between coagulation factor XII and corn trypsin inhibitor by molecular docking and biochemical validation.

Corn trypsin inhibitor (CTI) has selectivity for serine proteases coagulation factor XII (FXII) and trypsin. CTI is in widespread use as a reagent that specifically inhibits the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation but not the extrinsic pathway.
