However, for the subset of patients with microsatellite unstable colorectal cancer the use of checkpoint inhibitors such as nivolumab appears to be transformative, and will provide a new therapeutic opt...

Antiangiogenic Therapy in Colorectal Cancer.

Colorectal carcinoma is the third most common cancer worldwide. Approximately 20% of patients with colorectal cancer will have metastatic disease at the time of initial diagnosis, and approximately 30% to 50% of patients with primary colon cancer will relapse and die of metastatic cancer. The 5-year survival rate of metastatic colorectal cancer remains disappointing at approximately 10%.Angiogenesis plays a significant role in tumor growth and metastasis in colorectal carcinoma. There are currently 4 US Foo...

Recurrent biliary dissemination of colon cancer liver metastasis: a case report.

Most colorectal cancer liver metastases form nodules within the hepatic parenchyma, and hepatectomy is the only radical treatment for synchronous metastases. There is concern about intrabiliary tumor growth which may affect the surgical margin, resulting in local recurrence after hepatectomy for colorectal cancer liver metastasis; however, there has been no report of the dissemination in the bile duct after hepatectomy. Here, we report an unusual case of biliary dissemination of colorectal cancer that cause...

BRCA1 and BRCA2 Gene Mutations and Colorectal Cancer Risk: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Investigations of the associations with colorectal cancer have yielded conflicting results. The aim of our study was to synthesize the research on colorectal cancer risks in BRCA mutation carriers by means of a systematic review and quantitatively by means of meta-analyses overall and in subgroups of BRCA mutation carriers.

New Insights Into the Role of Tissue Eosinophils in the Progression of Colorectal Cancer: A Literature Review.

Amongst the inflammatory cells implicated in the immune surveillance of colorectal cancer, a growing body of evidence suggests a role for eosinophils in carcinogenesis. We aimed to review the value of tumour-associated tissue eosinophilia (TATE) in the prognosis of colorectal cancer emphasizing the identification and measurement of tissue-infiltrating eosinophils and their association with the clinicopathological features of the disease.

The main changes in the updated guidelines include the latest recommendations regarding endoscopy and adjuvant/neoadjuvant therapies as well as a complete restruc...

Efficacy of bevacizumab in first-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate the additive effect of bevacizumab when combined with first-line chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).

Colorectal Cancer in People with Intellectual Disabilities.

People with intellectual disabilities (PWIDs) are now living longer; thus, the incidence of cancer within this population is increasing. Available data indicate an excess of digestive tract cancers in PWIDs, but colorectal cancer has rarely been specifically studied and has not been extensively reviewed. This is despite risk factors such as being overweight, obesity, and lack of exercise being more frequent in PWIDs. In this article, we examine the literature on the frequency, screening, and treatment of co...

Diagnostic value of magnetic resonance versus computed tomography colonography for colorectal cancer: A PRISMA-compliant systematic review and meta-analysis.

Advanced colorectal cancers were associated with poor prognosis, and early diagnosis was important for high-risk patients. Colonography is commonly used for diagnosing colorectal cancer. However, a few studies reported the diagnostic value of magnetic resonance colonography (MRC) versus computed tomography colonography (CTC). This study aimed to compare the diagnostic value of MRC versus CTC for colorectal cancer.

Metformin and Colorectal Cancer - A Systematic Review.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. The development of preventive strategies in CRC has been the subject of much research. Multiple studies have shown an association between diabetes and CRC. In addition to its glucose-lowering properties, metformin might have an additional role in the prevention and treatment of CRC. OUR OBJECTIVE: was to summarize findings on role of metformin in colorectal cancer.

Short-term outcome of emergency colorectal cancer surgery: results from Bi-National Colorectal Cancer Audit.

A significant number of patients with colorectal cancer will have an emergency presentation requiring surgery. This study aims to evaluate short-term outcomes for patients undergoing emergency colorectal cancer surgery in Australasia.

Two and Five year survival for colorectal cancer after resection with curative intent: A retrospective cohort study.

Colorectal cancer is a major cause of illness, disability and death in the United Kingdom. The stage of disease at diagnosis has a major impact on survival rates. The aim of this study is to assess whether the survival rates of patients receiving curative treatment in our centre are comparable with national results published by Cancer Research UK, National Bowel Cancer Audit Annual Report 2016, and NCIN Colorectal Cancer Survival by Stage Data Briefing.

Colorectal Adenomas and Cancers After Childhood Cancer Treatment: A DCOG-LATER Record Linkage Study.

Although colorectal adenomas serve as prime target for colorectal cancer (CRC) surveillance in other high-risk groups, data on adenoma risk after childhood cancer are lacking. We evaluated the risk of histologically confirmed colorectal adenomas among childhood cancer survivors. A secondary aim was to assess CRC risk.
