Are the King LTS Laryngeal Tube and the Ambu AuraOnce Laryngeal Mask Useful Airway Adjuncts for Military Medics?

Airway management is a critical skill that may be essential in the battlefield. The aim of this study was to determine if combat life savers and medics with no or limited clinical experience could provide airway control using the disposable laryngeal suction tube (LTS-D) and the Ambu® AuraOnce ™ disposable laryngeal mask (LMA).


Introduction of laryngeal mask airway in Japan, and its rescue use for newborns.

In neonatal resuscitation, laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is recommended when both face mask ventilation and endotracheal intubation fail. Human laryngeal sensory receptor mapping illuminates the mechanisms of laryngeal adductor reflex control.

The laryngeal adductor reflex (LAR) is an airway protective response triggered by sensory laryngeal receptors. It is unknown whether different glottic and supraglottic subsites vary in their reflex elicitation abilities. The recent discovery that a bilateral LAR is present in humans under general anesthesia upon laryngeal mucosal stimulation has enabled us to map the sensory receptor density for LAR elicitation at different laryngeal subsites.
