Testing the role of fiscal policy in the environmental degradation: the case of Turkey.

This study introduces a new research topic that investigates the relationship between fiscal development and carbon emissions in Turkey through testing Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis. Annual data covering the period, 1960-2013, has been used and in addition to gross domestic product and energy consumption, fiscal policy variables have been regressed on the level of carbon emissions in Turkey. The relative age effect reversal among the National Hockey League elite.

Like many sports in adolescence, junior hockey is organized by age groups. Typically, players born after December 31st are placed in the subsequent age cohort and as a result, will have an age advantage over those players born closer to the end of the year. While this relative age effect (RAE) has been well-established in junior hockey and other professional sports, the long-term impact of this phenomenon is not well understood. Using roster data on North American National Hockey League (NHL) players from t...

Urology residents on call: Investigating the workload and relevance of calls.

On-call medical services assumed by residents represent many hours of hard work and no studies have documented what it really is. As part of an effort to ameliorate our on-call system, we examined phone calls received by residents on call. Our objectives were to evaluate the characteristics of phone calls received by residents on call (who, when, why, need to go to the hospital) and to determine residents' perception of these calls. We also looked into implementing strategies to reduce unnecessary calls.

Short communication: Cow- and quarter-level milking indicators and their associations with clinical mastitis in an automatic milking system.

The aim of this study was to assess associations of cow-, udder-, and quarter-level factors with the risk of clinical mastitis (CM) in cows managed using an automatic milking system. The primary hypothesis was that quarter peak milk flow rate (QPMF) is associated with increased risk of CM. A retrospective, case-control study was undertaken using data from a 1,549 cow farm using 20 automatic milking system units. All data from cows milked during March to December 2015 was available for analysis. Cases (n = 8...

Oyster toadfish (Opsanus tau) boatwhistle call detection and patterns within a large-scale oyster restoration site.

During May 2015, passive acoustic recorders were deployed at eight subtidal oyster reefs within Harris Creek Oyster Sanctuary in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland USA. These sites were selected to represent both restored and unrestored habitats having a range of oyster densities. Throughout the survey, the soundscape within Harris Creek was dominated by the boatwhistle calls of the oyster toadfish, Opsanus tau. A novel, multi-kernel spectral correlation approach was developed to automatically detect these boatwhistl...

Educating Aboriginal Nursing Students: Responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Report.

The Quarter Prone Position Increases Oxygen Saturation in Premature Infants Using Continuous Positive Airway Pressure.

A primary problem that occurs in premature infants is oxygenation disorders, thus requiring respiratory support, including continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). The effectiveness of CPAP can be improved by adjusting the body's position, so the aim of this study was to examine the effect of the quarter prone position on the oxygenation status of preterm infants using CPAP. This study used a randomized controlled trial with a crossover design. A group of 15 preterm infants receiving CPAP was selected, a...
