Comparative Evaluation of Surface Defects In Single File Rotary Systems Before and After Instrumentation In Curved Root Canals.

This study aims to evaluate the surface defects and efficiency of two single file rotary systems with different surface treatments in curved root canal instrumentation. A total of 160 root canals were randomly divided into two groups and were subjected to root canal instrumentation with electropolished surface rotary file (Group 1) and with EDM surface treated rotary file (Group 2). All the files were then subjected to SEM analysis to evaluate the surface defects prior to the root canal instrumentation,afte...

The crustacean cuticle does not record chronological age: New evidence from the gastric mill ossicles.

A proposed method to determine chronological age of crustaceans uses putative annual bands in the gastric mill ossicles of the foregut. The interpretation of cuticle bands as growth rings is based on the idea that ossicles are retained through the moult and could accumulate a continuous record of age. However, recent studies presented conflicting findings on the dynamics of gastric mill ossicles during ecydysis. We herein study cuticle bands in ossicles in four species of commercially important decapod crus...

Comparison between Single-file Rotary Systems: Part 1-Efficiency, Effectiveness, and Adverse Effects in Endodontic Retreatment.

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the performance of 3 single-file systems: WaveOne Gold Primary (WOG; Dentsply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland), Hyflex EDM "one file" (EDM; Coltene/Whaledent, Alstatten, Switzerland), and XP Shaper (XP; FKG, La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland), for nonsurgical endodontic retreatment on mandibular anterior teeth in regard to the amount of remaining filling material inside the canal, debris extrusion, and operation time.

Revenue-sharing clubs provide economic insurance and incentives for sustainability in common-pool resource systems.

Harvesting behaviors of natural resource users, such as farmers, fishermen and aquaculturists, are shaped by season-to-season and day-to-day variability, or in other words risk. Here, we explore how risk-mitigation strategies can lead to sustainable use and improved management of common-pool natural resources. Over-exploitation of unmanaged natural resources, which lowers their long-term productivity, is a central challenge facing societies. While effective top-down management is a possible solution, it is ...

How do manual handling advisors and physiotherapists construct their back beliefs, and do safe lifting posture beliefs influence them?

The Back-Pain Attitudes (Back-PAQ) questionnaire measures back beliefs across 6 domains. Our previous study showed that manual handling advisors (MHAs) have more negative beliefs than physiotherapists (PTs), and those who think straight back lifting is safer than a rounder back have more negative beliefs. However, exactly which domains of the Back-PAQ are most negative is unknown.

Self-report versus electronic medical record recorded healthcare utilisation in older community-dwelling adults: Comparison of two prospective cohort studies.

Self-reported measures of healthcare utilisation are often used in longitudinal cohort studies involving older community-dwelling people. The aim of this study is to compare healthcare utilisation rates using patient self-report and manual extraction from the general practice (GP) electronic medical record (EMR).

New distribution record of Epipompilus aztecus (Cresson, 1869) (Hymenoptera: Pompilidae) in the Brazilian Pantanal.

Epipompilus aztecus (Cresson, 1869) was registered in South America in 2010. The aim of this paper is to report the first record of E. aztecus in the Brazilian Pantanal. Two female individuals of E. aztecus were collected in the northern portion of the Brazilian Pantanal in Mato Grosso State during November 2015. This new record of E. aztecus represents a range extension for the species.

Differential effects of angry faces on working memory updating in younger and older adults.

Research suggests that cognition-emotion interactions change with age. In the present study, younger and older adults completed a 2-back task, and the effects of negative stimuli were analyzed as a function of their status in the n-back sequence. Older adults were found to benefit more from angry than from neutral probes relative to younger adults. However, they were slower when lures were angry and less accurate when lures and probes had the same emotion. The results suggest that recollection of the n-back...

Adoption and learning across hospitals: The case of a revenue-generating practice.

Performance-raising practices tend to diffuse slowly in the health care sector. To understand how incentives drive adoption, I study a practice that generates revenue for hospitals: submitting detailed documentation about patients. After a 2008 reform, hospitals could raise their Medicare revenue over 2% by always specifying a patient's type of heart failure. Hospitals only captured around half of this revenue, indicating that large frictions impeded takeup. Exploiting the fact that many doctors practice at...

The Formation and Distribution of Modern Ooids on Great Bahama Bank.

Great Bahama Bank (GBB) is the principal location of the formation and accumulation of ooids (concentrically coated, sand-size carbonate grains) in the world today, and as such has been the focus of studies on all aspects of ooids for more than half a century. Our view from a close look at this vast body of literature coupled with our continuing interests stresses that biological mechanisms (microbially mediated organomineralization) are very important in the formation of ooids, whereas the controlling fact...

Crop diversity and stability of revenue on farms in Central Europe: An analysis of big data from a comprehensive agricultural census in Bavaria.

Diversity of agricultural landscapes is important to maintain the provision of ecosystem services. In face of decreasing support measures for agricultural markets in the European Union, diversified crop portfolios could also offer a possibility to stabilize revenue at farm level (portfolio effect). We hypothesize that (i) diversity of crop portfolios changes along spatial gradients in the study area (Bavaria, Germany), (ii) the composition of portfolios depends on farm parameters, and (iii) more diverse por...

Association of low back load with low back pain during static standing.

Although poor standing posture is a known cause of low back pain, the mechanisms involved are unclear. The aim of this study was to clarify the kinetic and posture angle features of standing posture that might influence low back pain.

Effectiveness of different irrigation systems in the presence of intracanal-separated file.

The aim of this study was to evaluate conventional syringe irrigation and three different irrigant activation techniques' effectiveness for smear layer removal in the absence and presence of intracanal-separated file (SF) fragment. Mandibular anterior teeth (160 total) with single canal were used and each root canal preparation was finished with the ProTaper Universal F1. The samples were randomly divided into eight equal groups with n = 20 in each group. The Protaper Universal F3 file was used to simulat...

UK Renal Registry 20th Annual Report: Introduction.

Effectiveness of complementary irrigation routines in debriding pulp tissue from root canals instrumented with a single reciprocating file.

To compare histologically the debridement efficacy of four irrigation techniques in root canals instrumented with a reciprocating single file.

Same-Sex Married Tax Filers After Windsor and Obergefell.

This article provides new estimates of the number and characteristics of same-sex married couples after U.S. Supreme Court rulings in 2013 and 2015 established rights to same-sex marriage. The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service subsequently ruled that same-sex spouses would be treated as married for federal tax purposes. Because almost all married taxpayers file joint tax returns, administrative tax records provide new information on the demographic characteristics of married s...

Automatic Detection of Front-Line Clinician Hospital Shifts: A Novel Use of Electronic Health Record Timestamp Data.

Excess physician work hours contribute to burnout and medical errors. Self-report of work hours is burdensome and often inaccurate. We aimed to validate a method that automatically determines provider shift duration based on electronic health record (EHR) timestamps across multiple inpatient settings within a single institution.

A meeting Report on the 2018 annual meeting of ASBMR-Clinical practice of the osteoporosis-.

In the 2018 ASBMR annual meeting, many important results were reported, showing the effects of anti-osteoporotic drugs already focusing on bone quality and the concept of "treat-to-target", although there were few big topics on novel drugs. However, some reports on new drugs, such as probiotics and SARM(selective androgen receptor modulator), did draw attention.

An overview of extant conifer evolution from the perspective of the fossil record.

Conifers are an important living seed plant lineage with an extensive fossil record spanning more than 300 million years. The group therefore provides an excellent opportunity to explore congruence and conflict between dated molecular phylogenies and the fossil record.
