The study showed that 36.0% of the Croatian...

Noncompliance/Nonadherence With Home Nutrition Support: An Underrecognized Clinical Dilemma.

Failure to administer enteral nutrition, intravenous fluids, and/or parenteral nutrition solutions can have deleterious effects on patients who have been prescribed such therapies. However, it is not well understood why patients requiring nutrition support would be noncompliant or nonadherent to these often life-benefiting therapies. This article explores these issues in a large home nutrition support population.

Parenteral nutrition in intensive care patients: medicoeconomic aspects.

Parenteral nutrition alone or as supplemental parenteral nutrition (SPN) has been shown to prevent negative cumulative energy balance, to improve protein delivery and, in some studies, to reduce infectious morbidity in ICU patients who fail to cover their needs with enteral nutrition alone.

Influence of Body Composition and Nutrition Parameters in Handgrip Strength: Are There Differences by Sex in Hemodialysis Patients?

Hemodialysis (HD) patients are vulnerable to multiple metabolic and nutrition derangements, leading to changes in body composition. Handgrip strength (HGS) has been used as a nutrition marker. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between HGS and lean tissue mass (LTM) with several parameters in HD patients and develop HGS predictive equations.

How Nutrition Sensitive Are the Nutrition Policies of New Zealand Food Manufacturers? A Benchmarking Study.

Nutrition sensitive policy addresses the underlying determinants of nutrition-related disease and is a powerful tool in reducing the incidence of non-communicable disease. Intermittent versus continuous feeding in critically ill adults.

Early enteral nutrition is recommended in critically ill adult patients. The optimal method of administering enteral nutrition remains unknown. Continuous enteral nutrition administration in critically ill patients remains the most common practice worldwide; however, its practice has recently been called into question in favor of intermittent enteral nutrition administration, where volume is infused multiple times per day. This review will outline the key differences between continuous and intermittent ente...

The Geometric Framework for Nutrition as a tool in precision medicine.

Fundamental questions in nutrition include, "What constitutes a nutritionally balanced diet?", "What are the consequences of failing to achieve diet balance?", and "How does diet balance change across the lifecourse and with individual circumstances?". Answering these questions requires coming to grips with the multidimensionality and dynamic nature of nutritional requirements, foods and diets, and the complex relationships between nutrition and health, while at the same time avoiding becoming overwhelmed b...

Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition-From Hospital to Home: Will It Be Covered?

With scientific advances allowing for the safe delivery of parenteral and enteral nutrition in the home setting, challenges have risen with determining how this will be financially feasible for patients. In the United States, the government is one of the major payers for home parenteral and enteral nutrition (HPEN). Thus, it is important for nutrition providers to have an understanding of the Medicare criteria that must be met in order for these services to be covered. It can be difficult for clinicians to ...

Early Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy Improves Nutrition Delivery in Neonates During Extracorporeal Life Support.

Optimizing nutrition in neonatal patients as soon as possible after extracorporeal life support (ECLS) initiation is imperative as malnutrition can worsen both short- and long-term outcomes. Fluid restriction, used to manage the fluid overload that commonly complicates neonatal ECLS, severely impairs nutrition delivery. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) can be used to help manage fluid overload. We hypothesize that early CRRT utilization ameliorates the need for fluid restriction and allows provid...

Public partners play a key role when we want to improve nutrition quality. They will not succeed, when they try to achieve the goal alone or tend to dominate other players. In their responsibility for common interests it is up to public partners to moderate and facilitate the multi-stakeholder and multi-sectorial dialogue to improve nutrition quality. The role of nutrition in geriatric rehabilitation.

To highlight the importance of nutrition in older adults undergoing a rehabilitation program. Geriatric rehabilitation aims at the recovery of physical abilities for a largely independent life in the community.
