At present, there are few studies looking at the long-term results of this latest generation of ceramic bearings. The purpose of our study was to investigate the long-term clinical and radiographic results of 3rd generation ceramic-on-ceramic THA and the incidence of ceramic specific complications such as squeaking and bearing surfa...

ICTV Virus Taxonomy Profile: Pleolipoviridae.

Members of the family Pleolipoviridae (termed pleolipoviruses) are pseudo-spherical and pleomorphic archaeal viruses. The enveloped virion is a simple membrane vesicle, which encloses different types of DNA genomes of approximately 7-16 kbp (or kilonucleotides). Typically, virions contain a single type of transmembrane (spike) protein at the envelope and a single type of membrane protein, which is embedded in the envelope and located in the internal side of the membrane. All viruses infect extremely halophi...

Fluidized-bed Fenton coupled with ceramic membrane separation for advanced treatment of flax wastewater.

Fluidized-bed Fenton coupled with ceramic membrane separation to treat the flax secondary effluent was investigated. The operating variables, including initial pH, dosage of H2O2 and Fe(0), air flow rate, TMP and pore size, were optimized. The distributions of DOMs in the treatment process were analyzed. Under the optimum condition (600mgL(-1)H2O2, 1.4gL(-1) Fe(0), pH=3, 300Lh(-1) air flow rate and 15psi TMP), the highest TOC and color removal efficiencies were 84% and 94% in the coupled reactor with 100nm ...

Novel MOF UiO-66 Layer: A Highly Oriented Membrane with Good Selectivity and Hydrogen Permeance.

The 3D MOF structure UiO-66 [Zr6O4(OH)4(bdc)6], featuring triangular pores of approximately 6 Å, has been successfully prepared as thin supported membrane layer with high crystallographic orientation on ceramic α-Al2O3 supports. The adhesion of the MOF layer to the ceramic support was investigated in different taxing conditions. Furthermore, by coating this UiO-66 membrane with a thin polyimide (Matrimid) top layer we prepared a multilayer composite. Said membranes have been evaluated in the separation of...

Using CAD/CAM-Modified Correlation Mode to Produce Laminate Veneers: A Six-Month Case Report.

The expectation of an esthetically harmonious smile increases the level of difficulty when treating patients. Laminate veneers stand out as a treatment option for cosmetic rehabilitation in clinical practice, as they are a more conservative procedure and mimic dental structures. These laminate veneers are generally made with different techniques; the most common requires an impression of the prepared tooth, an impression antagonist, fabrication models, and extensive laboratory time. The computer-aided desig...

Reflections on 'medical tourism' from the 2016 Global Healthcare Policy and Management Forum.

In October 2016, the Global Healthcare Policy and Management Forum was held at Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea. The goal of the forum was to discuss the role of the state in regulating and supporting the development of medical tourism. Forum attendees came from 10 countries. In this short report article, we identify key lessons from the forum that can inform the direction of future scholarly engagement with medical tourism. In so doing, we reference on-going scholarly debates about this global health ...

Relationship between bacteriology report time in the morning and length of stay in hospital after the report.

We studied the relationship between the time of day bacteriology reports were available in the electronic medical record (Epic, Verona, WI) and subsequent length of stay (LOS) following the last report before discharge. All patients ≥18years admitted to the UF Health Shands Hospital between 1/1/2014-2/29/2016 were included. We calculated the mean LOS following the report for each half-hour time period between 6AM and 1PM (N=14, 95.6% of all results) and tested the relationship to subsequent LOS. For patie...

Intraoperative Venovenous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation During Thoracic Surgery That Requires 1-Lung Ventilation: A Case Report.

We report 3 cases of thoracic surgery that required 1-lung ventilation where venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was prophylactically used because severe hypoxemia and ventilatory failure were anticipated intraoperatively. The surgery was successfully completed in all 3 cases. However, we had to withdraw the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support in 1 case because of uncontrollable hemorrhage. Venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is a feasible option when severe hypoxemia and/or ve...

Convergence between parent report and direct assessment of language and attention in culturally and linguistically diverse children.

Parent report is commonly used to assess language and attention in children for research and clinical purposes. It is therefore important to understand the convergent validity of parent-report tools in comparison to direct assessments of language and attention. In particular, cultural and linguistic background may influence this convergence. In this study a group of six- to eight-year old children (N = 110) completed direct assessments of language and attention and their parents reported on the same areas. ...

Impact of ozonation and biological activated carbon filtration on ceramic membrane fouling.

Ozone pre-treatment (ozonation, ozonisation) and biological activated carbon (BAC) filtration pre-treatment for the ceramic microfiltration (CMF) treatment of secondary effluent (SE) were studied. Ozone pre-treatment was found to result in higher overall removal of UV absorbance (UVA254) and colour, and higher permeability than BAC pre-treatment or the combined use of ozone and BAC (O3+BAC) pre-treatment. The overall removal of colour and UVA254 by ceramic filtration of the ozone pre-treated water was 97% a...

Enrolling in Clinical Research While Incarcerated: What Influences Participants' Decisions?

As a 2006 Institute of Medicine report highlights, surprisingly little empirical attention has been paid to how prisoners arrive at decisions to participate in modern research. With our study, we aimed to fill this gap by identifying a more comprehensive range of factors as reported by prisoners themselves during semistructured interviews. Our participants described a diverse range of motives, both favoring and opposing their eventual decision to join. Many are well-recognized considerations among nonincarc...
