Vision-based technique for circle detection and measurement using lookup table and bitwise center accumulator.

In this paper, we proposed a fast algorithm for circle detection and measurement, which uses a lookup table and bitwise center accumulator (LUT-BCA). The LUT-BCA is a two-stage procedure. The first stage determines the candidate circle centers with normal lines produced by the lookup table and recorded by the bitwise center accumulator. The second stage computes the radius of each candidate circle center and validates these centers, which eliminates the false detections. The proposed LUT-BCA can also be eas...

The combination of circle topology and leaky integrator neurons remarkably improves the performance of echo state network on time series prediction.

Recently, echo state network (ESN) has attracted a great deal of attention due to its high accuracy and efficient learning performance. Compared with the traditional random structure and classical sigmoid units, simple circle topology and leaky integrator neurons have more advantages on reservoir computing of ESN. In this paper, we propose a new model of ESN with both circle reservoir structure and leaky integrator units. By comparing the prediction capability on Mackey-Glass chaotic time series of four ESN...

Perfluoroalkyl substances in waters along the Grand Canal, China.

The Grand Canal, also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the longest canal in the world. It is an important trunk line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China. The contamination status and spatial distributions of perfluoroalky substances (PFASs) in waters of the Grand Canal were investigated. The total concentrations of PFASs (∑PFASs) range from 7.8 ng/L to 218.0 ng/L, with high ∑PFASs occurring in the southern part of the Grand Canal which i...

Incomplete Circle of Willis: A risk factor for mesial temporal sclerosis?

The aim of this study was to investigate whether there may be a correlation between the anatomical variants of Circle of Willis (CoW) and presence/laterality of mesial temporal sclerosis (MTS).

Basilar Artery Diameter Is Inversely Associated with Fetal Type Circle of Willis.

The relationship between basilar artery (BA) diameter and Circle of Willis (CoW) configuration has been scarcely investigated. We aimed to assess this association in community-dwelling older adults.

A Nurse-Led Innovation in Education: Implementing a Collaborative Multidisciplinary Grand Rounds.

Multidisciplinary grand rounds provides an opportunity to promote excellence in patient care through scholarly presentations and interdisciplinary collaboration with an innovative approach. In addition, multidisciplinary grand rounds serves to recognize expertise of staff, mentor and support professional development, and provide a collaborative environment across all clinical disciplines and support services. This article describes a process model developed by nurse educators for implementing a multidiscipl...

CIRCLE-seq: a highly sensitive in vitro screen for genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 nuclease off-targets.

Sensitive detection of off-target effects is important for translating CRISPR-Cas9 nucleases into human therapeutics. In vitro biochemical methods for finding off-targets offer the potential advantages of greater reproducibility and scalability while avoiding limitations associated with strategies that require the culture and manipulation of living cells. Here we describe circularization for in vitro reporting of cleavage effects by sequencing (CIRCLE-seq), a highly sensitive, sequencing-efficient in vitro ...

Outcome of vaginal mesh reconstructive surgery in multiparous compared with grand multiparous women: Retrospective long-term follow-up.

We aimed to compare the long-term surgical outcome and complications of multiparous and grand multiparous women undergoing reconstructive surgery with vaginal mesh implants for repair of pelvic organ prolapse. This retrospective, long-term follow-up (28.17±20.7 months) comprised 113 women who underwent surgical reconstructive surgery with vaginal polypropylene mesh in a high parity rate population medical center. The women were divided into 2 groups (multiparous and grand multiparous) and each group was ev...

Pathways for Theoretical Advances in Visualization.

There is little doubt that having a theoretic foundation will benefit the field of visualization, including its main subfields. Because there has been a substantial amount of work on taxonomies and conceptual models in the visualization literature and some recent work on theoretic frameworks, such a theoretic foundation is not a foolish or impractical ambition. This article asks, "How can we build a theoretic foundation for visualization collectively as a community?" The authors envision the pathways for fo...

The association of the circle of Willis anomaly and risk of stroke in patients with carotid artery disease.

In this retrospective study, we analyzed 175 patients who presented at our outpatient stroke clinic between January, 2013 and June, 2015 with either unilateral symptomatic or asymptomatic carotid artery disease, and who had had CT angiography imaging performed. Demographic properties, carotid artery stenosis and the anomaly of the circle of Willis was recorded.

Relationship between white matter hyperintensities volume and the circle of Willis configurations in patients with carotid artery pathology.

We aimed to assess if there is a difference of distribution and volume of white matter hyperintensities (WMH) in the brain according to the Circle of Willis (CoW) configuration in patients with carotid artery pathology.

Death Cafés: Death Doulas and Family Communication.

The Death Café is part of the Death Positive movement, and as such, is uniquely positioned to bring the dialogue about death and dying to the public. Participants in a Death Café typically have two different perspectives. Some participants have not experienced death in their family and friends' circle and wish to converse with others about their beliefs on death and dying. Others are those who have experienced death somewhere in their circle of friends and families. One of goals of the Death Café facilit...
