National Health Care Spending In 2017: Growth Slows To Post-Great Recession Rates; Share Of GDP Stabilizes.

Total nominal US health care spending increased 3.9 percent to $3.5 trillion in 2017, slowing from growth of 4.8 percent in 2016. The rate of growth in 2017 was similar to the increases between 2008 and 2013, which preceded the faster growth experienced during 2014-15-a period that was marked by insurance coverage expansion and large increases in prescription drug spending. Slower growth in health care spending in 2017 was mainly attributable to the use and intensity of goods and services, particularly f...

Outbreak of Salmonella Chailey Infections Linked To Precut Coconut Pieces - United States and Canada, 2017.

Foodborne salmonellosis causes an estimated 1 million illnesses and 400 deaths annually in the United States (1). In recent years, salmonellosis outbreaks have been caused by foods not typically associated with Salmonella. On May 2, 2017, PulseNet, CDC's national molecular subtyping network for foodborne disease surveillance, identified a cluster of 14 Salmonella Chailey isolates with a rare pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) pattern. On May 29, Canadian health officials informed CDC that they were als...

This research investigates the degrees of slipperiness felt by the participants who walk on contaminants applied to a floor surface to decide degrees of slipperiness for various contaminants.

Measuring progress from 1990 to 2017 and projecting attainment to 2030 of the health-related Sustainable Development Goals for 195 countries and territories: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017.

Efforts to establish the 2015 baseline and monitor early implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) highlight both great potential for and threats to improving health by 2030. To fully deliver on the SDG aim of "leaving no one behind", it is increasingly important to examine the health-related SDGs beyond national-level estimates. As part of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2017 (GBD 2017), we measured progress on 41 of 52 health-related SDG indicators and e...

Creative decision making and visual search behavior in skilled soccer players.

The ability to produce creative solutions is a key part of expert performance. The aim of this study was to identify the visual search behaviors that underpin superior creative performance of skilled soccer players during simulated 11-a-side match play. Players (N = 44) were required to interact with a representative life-size video-based simulation of attacking situations whilst in possession of the ball. Clips were occluded at a key moment and they were required to play the ball in response to each situat...

Terminology of Pelvic Floor Muscle Function in Women With and Without Urinary Incontinence: A Systematic Review.

Pelvic floor muscle function (PFMF) is a target of the physical therapist intervention for women with urinary incontinence (UI). However, possible variations in PFMF terminology might hamper communication among researchers and health care professionals in Women's Health.

Neural correlates of creative insight: Amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation of resting-state brain activity predicts creative insight.

Creative insight has attracted much attention across cultures. Although previous studies have explored the neural correlates of creative insight by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), little is known about intrinsic resting-state brain activity associated with creative insight. In the present study, we used amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) as an index in resting-state fMRI (rs-fMRI) to identify brain regions involved in individual differences in creative insight, which was measured by...

Fostering Agency Through Local Public Health.

It is necessary to establish an International Agency for Research on Aging.

The global aging of human population is one of the main challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. Establishing an International Agency for Research on Aging as an entity affiliated to one of the intergovernmental institutions, such as the World Health Organization, can be crucial for promoting international collaboration in gerontology, in particular in a search of effective and safe geroprotectors for humans.

Intentional binding coincides with explicit sense of agency.

Sense of agency, a feeling of generating actions and events by oneself, stems from action-outcome congruence. An implicit marker of sense of agency is intentional binding, which is compression of subjective temporal interval between action and outcome. We investigated relationships between intentional binding and explicit sense of agency. Participants pressed a key triggering auditory (Experiment 1) or visual outcome (Experiment 2) that occurred after variable delays. In each trial, participants rated their...

Organophosphate insecticide exposure: A clinical consideration of chlorpyrifos regulation.

Action-effect binding and agency.

The sense of agency is a pervasive phenomenon that accompanies conscious acting and extends to the consequences of one's actions in the environment. Subjective feelings of agency are typically explained in terms of predictive processes, based on internal forward models inherent to the sensorimotor system, and postdictive processes, i.e., explicit, retrospective judgments by the agent. Only recently, research has begun to elucidate the link between sense of agency and more basic processes of human action con...

Orbital Floor and Rim Reconstruction With a Titanium Orbital Implant and Acellular Dermis.

Reconstruction of the orbital rim and floor following tumor excision is traditionally performed with bone grafts, vascularized grafts, or free flaps. The authors describe a case of an osteosarcoma of the maxillary sinus and a second case of an ossifying fibroma of the orbital floor, both of which required reconstruction of the orbital floor and rim. In both of these cases, reconstruction of the orbital floor and rim was performed with a titanium implant whose anterior portion was bent inferiorly to recreate...
