To describe a new approach for in-office air-fluid exchange.

Check dams decrease the channel complexity of intermediate reaches in the Western Carpathians (Czech Republic).

Check dams can modify local channel and sedimentological characteristics through sediment deposition in upstream sedimentary wedges and scour processes downstream of individual check dams. However, research focusing on the channel reaches between subsequent check dams (referred to here as intermediate reaches) is limited. We evaluated channel complexity and its selected dimensions (longitudinal and cross-section heterogeneity, sediment characteristics and the presence of instream wood) in 30-m long intermed...

First description of subglacial megalineations from the late Paleozoic ice age in southern Africa.

We identify late Paleozoic ice age (LPIA) subglacial megalineations from field and geospatial imagery of the Twyfelfontein area of northern Namibia, and present the results of a geomorphometric analysis of those data. Asymmetric 0.1-1.5 km-long megawhalebacks indicate a paleo-ice flow to the northwest. We infer that an ice stream draining the LPIA Kaokoveld ice sheet existed within the proto-Huab River valley and that was comparable to ice streams in modern Antarctica. Recognition of a paleo-ice stream in n...

Komodo Dragon Predation on Crab-Eating Macaques at the Rinca Island's Visitor Centre, Indonesia.

We investigated the proportion of crab-eating macaques in the diet of Komodo dragons and quantified the spatial habitat use between the species as a proxy for predation threat and in relation to prey availability due to ecotourism. In 2013, in Loh Buaya valley of Rinca Island, Komodo National Park, we conducted macroscopic identification of hairs, claws, dentition and osteological remains of consumed prey. For habitat use, we quantified the use of vertical strata by macaques through focal animal sampling. F...

Long-term blood pressure monitoring by office and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure in renal transplant patients: a longitudinal study.

Renal transplant patients have a high prevalence of nocturnal hypertension, and hypertension misclassification by office blood pressure (BP) is quite common in these patients. The potential impact of hypertension misclassification by office BP on hypertension management in this population has never been analysed.

Enhanced indirect-to-direct inter-valley scattering in germanium under tensile strain for improving population of electrons in direct valley.

We propose the inter-valley transferred electron model between direct Γ and indirect L valleys to gain insight into the electrons dynamics in conduction of tensile strained Ge. Inter-valley scattering is included to calculate average scattering time between Γ and L valleys based on a time-dependent Hamiltonian describing the electron-phonon interaction. Numerical results indicate that enhanced indirect-to-direct inter-valley scattering and reduced direct-to-indirect inter-valley scattering are reliable by...

Comparison of Automated Office Blood Pressure With Office and Out-Off-Office Measurement Techniques.

Automated office blood pressure (AOBP) has emerged as a valuable tool to assess patient's BP status, but the lack of strong evidence to establish a threshold value for hypertension diagnosis limits its use in clinical practice. We aimed at synthesizing the published literature through a meta-analysis of studies comparing AOBP with other BP measurement techniques and at analyzing the differences between AOBP and physician's office BP, nonphysician's office BP, daytime ambulatory BP monitoring, and home BP mo...

Decreasing Unplanned Office Visits Due to Cast Problems in the Pediatric Population.

Unplanned office visits due to cast-related problems in the pediatric orthopedic office are common. Decreasing problems associated with the use of a cast would improve patient safety, increase office productivity, and decrease inconvenience to the child and family.

Spatial Separation of Carrier Spin by the Valley Hall Effect in Monolayer WSe Transistors.

We investigate the valley Hall effect (VHE) in monolayer WSe field-effect transistors using optical Kerr rotation measurements at 20 K. While studies of the VHE have so far focused on n -doped MoS, we observe the VHE in WSe in both the n - and p -doping regimes. Hole doping enables access to the large spin-splitting of the valence band of this material. The Kerr rotation measurements probe the spatial distribution of the valley carrier imbalance induced by the VHE. Under current flow, we observe distinct sp...

Psychosomatic Specialist Consultation in the General Practitioner's Office - A New Model of Integrated Care.

A high number of patients with mental health disorders currently do not receive minimally adequate treatment, but remain solely in general practice. This is often due to long waiting times for psychotherapy, patient related barriers or diagnostic insecurity. For this reason, we have developed a care model that is applied directly in the general practitioner's (GP) office and is open to any form of psychosomatic disorder. The cornerstone of the model consists of a psychosomatic specialist consultation in the...

Molecular Detection of Coxiella burnetii in Cattle on Ulleung Island, Korea: A Population-based Study with Four Years of Follow Up.

In a population-based study with 4 years of follow up, we evaluated the prevalence of Coxiella burnetii in cattle on Ulleung Island, Korea. In this study, the rates of C. burnetii infection in cattle on Ulleung Island were determined by PCR and were found to be 0.3-1.0% in the period 2011-2014. All 17 C. burnetii partial 16S rRNA gene sequences from PCR-positive cattle were identical and 2 geographic representatives were included in our analysis. The nucleotide sequences of the 2 samples showed high (98.4-1...

DNA Hypermethylation Encroachment at CpG Island Borders in Cancer Is Predisposed by H3K4 Monomethylation Patterns.

Promoter CpG islands are typically unmethylated in normal cells, but in cancer a proportion are subject to hypermethylation. Using methylome sequencing we identified CpG islands that display partial methylation encroachment across the 5' or 3' CpG island borders. CpG island methylation encroachment is widespread in prostate and breast cancer and commonly associates with gene suppression. We show that the pattern of H3K4me1 at CpG island borders in normal cells predicts the different modes of cancer CpG isla...

Edge-limited valley-preserved transport in quasi-1D constriction of bilayer graphene.

We investigated the quantization of the conductance of quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) constrictions in high-mobility bilayer graphene (BLG) with different geometrical aspect ratios. Ultra-short (a few tens of nm long) constrictions were fabricated by applying an under-cut etching technique. Conductance was quantized in steps of 〖~4e〗^2⁄h (~〖2e〗^2⁄h) in devices with aspect ratios smaller (larger) than 1. We argue that scattering at the edges of a quasi-1D BLG constriction limits the inter-valle...

Morphological differences in the upper trapezius muscle between female office workers with and without trapezius myalgia: facts or fiction? A cross-sectional study.

Work-related trapezius myalgia is a common musculoskeletal disorder in office workers. Prolonged low-level muscle activity during office work may lead to morphological changes in the muscle tissue, causing pain and fatigue. The aim of the present study was to investigate differences in muscle morphology between office workers with and without trapezius myalgia.

Techniques for improving ophthalmic studies performed on administrative databases.

Nonlinear Kinetic Ion Response to Small Scale Magnetic Islands in Tokamak Plasmas: Neoclassical Tearing Mode Threshold Physics.

A new drift-kinetic theory of the ion response to magnetic islands in tokamak plasmas is presented. Small islands are considered, with widths w much smaller than the plasma radius r, but comparable to the trapped ion orbit width ρ_{bi}. An expansion in w/r reduces the system dimensions from five down to four. In the absence of an electrostatic potential, the ions follow stream lines that map out a drift-island structure that is identical to the magnetic island, but shifted by an amount ∼ few ρ_{bi}. The...

Provider Trends in Atherectomy Volume Between Office-Based Labs and Traditional Facilities.

As patient care is increasingly transitioned out of the hospital and into the outpatient setting, there is growing interest in developing office-based angiography suites, i.e. office-based labs. Office-based care has been associated with increased efficiency and greater patient satisfaction, with substantially higher reimbursement directly to the physicians providing care. Prior studies have demonstrated a shift of revascularization procedures to office-based labs with a concomitant increase in atherectomy ...

Computational fluid dynamics analysis of a carotid-ophthalmic aneurysm with concomitant ophthalmic artery infundibulum in a patient-specific model.

Although previous studies have reported cases of coexistence of carotid-ophthalmic aneurysm (COA) and ophthalmic artery (OA) infundibulum, the hemodynamic characteristics of this complicated structure and its damaging effect on vision remain to be elucidated. The aim of this study was to analyze this specific artery structure using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques.
