Assessment of preimplantation genetic testing for embryo aneuploidies: a SWOT analysis.

The recently re-named preimplantation genetic testing for determining embryo aneuploidies (PGT-A) is presently very popular although its acceptance by the scientific community is controversial. This approach still encounters drawbacks. This paper uses a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis to discuss salient points to be considered when examining the PGT-A strategy in order to gather information from a range of perspectives. One of the strength associated with the procedure is re...

Novel Rescue Strategy for Endotracheal Intubation Through Severe Subglottic Stenosis by Using a Metal Suction Tube as a Tube Stylet in a Neonate: A Case Report.

We report a novel technique for the management of subglottic stenosis in a neonate. The initial endotracheal intubation did not provide adequate mechanical ventilation due to a significant air leak. We then performed suspension laryngoscopy and used a metal suction tube as an intubating stylet. We successfully inserted an endotracheal tube deep enough to maintain adequate mechanical ventilation. This technique is a viable rescue strategy in this clinical scenario.

Acute Changes in the Computed Tomography Findings of Mucocele Combined with Pituitary Adenoma:A Case Report.

We report a rare case in which a pituitary tumor co-occurred with a giant mucocele. The mucocele's computed tomography(CT)values fell markedly when it collapsed, and we report the associated considerations.

Correction and Republication: Abortion Surveillance - United States, 2014.

On November 24, 2017, MMWR published "Abortion Surveillance - United States, 2014" (1). On August 6, 2018, the authors informed MMWR about inadvertent errors in the data that resulted in publication of some erroneous numbers for gestational ages and abortion ratios throughout the report. The authors have corrected these errors and confirm that the interpretation or the conclusions of the original report have not changed. Additional text has been added to clarify how CDC adjusts gestational age data. In acco...

Maternal holding during therapeutic hypothermia for infants with neonatal encephalopathy is feasible.

Concerns for infant destabilization often prohibit parental holding of infants during therapeutic hypothermia (TH). We assessed the feasibility of maternal holding during TH, as the inability to hold can impede bonding.

Self-Other Agreement in Personality Reports: A Meta-Analytic Comparison of Self- and Informant-Report Means.

Self-report questionnaires are the most commonly used personality assessment despite longstanding concerns that self-report responses may be distorted by self-protecting motives and response biases. In a large-scale meta-analysis ( N = 33,033; k = 152 samples), we compared the means of self- and informant reports of the same target's Big Five personality traits to examine the discrepancies in two rating sources and whether people see themselves more positively than they are seen by others. Inconsistent with...

Associations Between Past-Month Pain and Distress Intolerance Among Daily Cigarette Smokers.

A growing body of research indicates that pain is associated with the maintenance of tobacco smoking. Distress intolerance (DI) may play an important role in the link between pain and smoking. The goal of this study was to examine the association between past-month pain status and DI among a sample of daily cigarette smokers. It was hypothesized that smokers who reported past-month pain (vs. those reporting no past-month pain) would have higher perceived DI (i.e., lower scores on the Distress Tolerance Scal...

Trichothiodystrophy: a case report of childhood glaucoma associated with non-acquired systemic disease.

Trichothiodystrophy belongs to a group of rare genetic diseases characterized by DNA repair anomalies. Ocular manifestations can occur in 50% of cases, including cataract, refractive errors, strabismus, microcornea, microphthalmia, dry eye, and pigmentary macular changes. We report a case of childhood glaucoma in a patient with trichothiodystrophy who underwent trabeculectomy in the left eye. To our knowledge, this is the first clinical report of childhood glaucoma associated with trichothiodystrophy.

Swap errors in spatial working memory are guesses.

In typical visual working memory tasks, participants report the color of a previously studied item at some probed location. Alternatively, in some recent studies, a color is probed and participants must report the item's location. There is a surprising difference between these tasks: in location reports participants almost never guess randomly as they do when reporting color, but often incorrectly report the locations of non-probed items. This finding has been taken as evidence for feature binding errors in...

Self-Report and Neurophysiological Indicators of Emotion Processing and Regulation in Social Anxiety Disorder.

Individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD) report less habitual reappraisal and more frequent suppression compared to healthy controls (HC). However, it is unclear whether a neurophysiological index of emotional reactivity, the late positive potential (LPP), is aberrant in SAD or whether self-reported reappraisal or suppression relates to the LPP during on-line emotion reactivity and reappraisal. Participants with SAD (n = 51) and HC (n = 31) completed an Emotion Regulation Task. Emotion reactiv...
