We systematically retested children with borderline-positive quantiferon (0.35-0.99 IU/mL) during the period 2015-2019. Among 647 tests, 27 (4%) were positive (>0.35 IU/mL). Borderline-positive quantiferon accounted for 10 of 27 (37%) positive tests. When retested, 9 of 10 (90%) were negative. Children younger than 5 years had negative tuberculin skin tests. Thus, we found high test variability in the borderline range and, in some children, high suspicion of false positive tests.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has been proposed as a potential treatment add-on for positive symptoms in schizophrenia. To summarize the current evidence for its efficacy, we reviewed clinical trials from the last 20 years that investigated TMS for positive symptoms. Recently, Bleich (2019) wrote a letter to the editor about a paper in which we modeled the population viability of mountain lions (Puma concolor) in isolated mountain ranges in southern California (Benson et al. 2019). Bleich (2019) expressed concern that some might misinterpret several statements made in our discussion about the role of mountain lions in these isolated mountain ranges. We appreciated the positive statements about our work in the letter and did not disagree with much of what he said. Howeve...

The sociocultural context shapes attitudes toward suicide. Japanese literary works such as the Hagakure and the Bunraku Sonezaki-Shinju depict suicide as beautiful and honorable. Although suicide acceptance is likely to affect suicide rates and prevention efforts in Japan, studies in this area are limited. This study aimed to explore suicide acceptance and related factors among Japanese participants. Using an Internet research company, questionnaires were distributed that measured acceptance of suicide, s...
