To identify the effects of a mother-nurse partnership programme based on the core components of information sharing, negotiation and participation in care. Specifically, we examined the programme's effects on parental satisfaction, parental self-efficacy, perceived partnership and anxiety, as well as infants' time to reach full oral feeding and length of postoperative hospital stay, following cardiac surgery on infants at a paediatric intensive care unit with a restrictive visiting policy.
Global health partnerships (GHPs) are the conceptual cousin of partnerships in the development sphere. Since their emergence in the 1990s, the GHP mode of working and funding has mainly been applied to single-disease, vertical interventions. However, GHPs are increasingly being used to enact health systems strengthening and to address the global health worker shortage. In contrast to other critical explorations of GHPs, we explore in this article how the fact, act, and aspiration of binding different actors...
The identification of high-quality starting points for drug discovery is an enduring challenge in medicinal chemistry. Yet, the chemical space explored in discovery programmes tends be limited by the narrow toolkit of robust methods that are exploited in discovery workflows. The European Lead Factory (ELF) was established in 2013 to boost early-stage drug discovery within Europe. In this Feature, we describe an exemplar partnership that has led to the addition of 21 119 distinctive screening compounds to th...

Technology has clearly impacted upon our working lives, and the purpose of this paper is to offer a critical insight into the ubiquitous presence of technology in nurse education. This paper argues that technology enhanced learning is predicated on the promise of potential and purported transformation of teaching and learning. It suggests that there is a lack of critical engagement in the academic field of technology enhanced learning, and adds a critical voice to some of the emerging arguments in this area...
The manufacturing process for biological products is complex, expensive and critical to the final product, with an impact on their efficacy and safety. They have been increasingly used to treat several diseases, and account for approximately 50% of the yearly budget for the Brazilian public health system. As the patents of biological products expire, several biosimilars are developed. However, there are concerns regarding their efficacy and safety; therefore, the regulatory agencies establish rules to appro...
In the context of the Common Fisheries Policy Reform, the implementation of multiannual management plans for fisheries and the annual quota negotiations between EU member states has generated a growing demand from stakeholders and managers for integrated advice that goes beyond the usual biological advice. This has led to the emergence of bio-economic tools and methods for the comparison of the biological, economic and social tradeoffs associated with alternative options for fisheries management. A Decision...
Distracted driving by using modern technologies has been linked with increased risk of injuries, however, the current research has focused primarily on the use of technology while operating roadway vehicles. Many cases of maternal mortality and morbidity are preventable. A delayed response to clinical warning signs contributes to preventability. Therefore, the National Partnership for Maternal Safety devised maternal early warning criteria (MEWC), composed of abnormal vital signs that trigger bedside evaluation by a provider with the capacity to escalate care. The relationship of the MEWC to maternal morbidity has not been studied. We evaluated the correlation between the MEWC and maternal morbidity.
Clinical practicum is a major learning component for pre-registration nursing students. Various clinical practicum models have been used to facilitate students' clinical learning experiences, employing both university-based and hospital-based clinical teachers. Considering the strengths and limitations of these clinical practicum models, along with nursing workforce shortages, we developed and tested an innovative clinical partnership model (CPM) in Hong Kong.
To avoid penalty through the Hospital Readmission Reduction Program, an academic practice partnership, Health Transitions Alliance, was formed with the local university, resulting in adoption of an innovative transitional care model. Key to the model was a health coach who operationalized transition care to the home setting. Health coaches, interns in their last semester of college, used motivational interviewing to help patients set disease management goals. As a result of this model, the readmission rate ...
