Incomplete insertion of pedicle screws in a standard construct reduces the fatigue life: A biomechanical analysis.

Pedicle screws are commonly used for posterior stabilization of the spine. When used in deformed or degenerated segments, the pedicle screws are often not fully inserted into the bone, but instead the threaded portion is exposed by 1 or 2 threads to accommodate rod placement and ensure alignment between the tulip of the screw and the rod. However, broken pedicle screws have been reported with the use of this method. The aim of this study was to determine how the fatigue life of the screw is affected by not ...

Integrated CO Capture and Conversion to Formate and Methanol: Connecting Two Threads.

The capture of CO from concentrated emission sources as well as from air represents a process of paramount importance in view of the increasing CO concentration in the atmosphere and its associated negative consequences on the biosphere. Once captured using various technologies, CO is desorbed and compressed for either storage (carbon capture and storage (CCS)) or production of value-added products (carbon capture and utilization (CCU)). Among various products that can be synthesized from CO, methanol and f...

Clinical and molecular characteristics of thirty NF1 variants in Chinese patients with neurofibromatosis type 1.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a common autosomal dominant tumor-predisposition disorder that mainly impacts the nervous system and skin. Since the full clinical presentation of NF1 depends on age, it can be difficult to make an early and definite diagnosis in paediatric patients without family history who only exhibited multiple cafè-au-lait spots, highlighting the need for mutational analysis. A combination of techniques was conducted in 30 families with NF1, including multi-gene panels, direct sequen...

Chondroinductive alginate-based hydrogels having graphene oxide for 3D printed scaffolds fabrication.

Scaffolds based on bioconjugated hydrogels are attractive for tissue engineering because they can partly mimic human tissue characteristics. For example, they can further increase their bioactivity with cells. However, most of the hydrogels present problems related with their processability, consequently limiting their use in 3D printing to produce tailor-made scaffolds. The goal of this work is to develop bioconjugated hydrogel nanocomposite inks for 3D printed scaffold fabrication through a micro-extrusio...
