A case of leukocytoclastic vasculitis caused by novel anticoagulant rivaroxaban.

Cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV) is type of small vessel vasculitis that commonly presents as palpable purpura involving the lower extremities and buttocks. Approximately half of cases are idiopathic, but the disease may be triggered by infection, drug reaction, inflammatory disease, or other causes. We report a case of leukocytoclastic vasculitis secondary to the novel anticoagulant rivaroxaban (Xarelto®).

How do housing prices affect consumption in China? New evidence from a continuous wavelet analysis.

In this paper, we revisit the relationship between housing prices and consumption in China by using a continuous wavelet analysis. This method provides an insight into the dynamic nexus in both time and frequency domains. In general, Empirical results show that there is a positive relationship between the two series in China, although it varies across time and frequencies. First, we find that disposable income is the core factor which affects both consumption and housing prices in China. Second, housing pri...

Surgical treatment of symptomatic aortic aneurysm in patient with ANCA-associated vasculitis: case-report and review of the literature.

Vasculitis are an heterogeneous group of syndromes, which shares inflammation of blood vessels wall as main feature. Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmatic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a necrotizing vasculitis, with few or no immune deposits, predominantly affecting small vessels (i.e., capillaries, venules, arterioles, and small arteries), associated with ANCAs specific for myeloperoxidase (MPO-ANCA) or proteinase 3 (PR3-ANCA). Clinical manifestations may be heterogeneous but an involvement of lun...

California's Drug Transparency Law: Navigating The Boundaries Of State Authority On Drug Pricing.

The California drug transparency bill (SB-17), signed into law in October 2017, seeks to promote transparency in pharmaceutical pricing, enhance understanding about pharmaceutical pricing trends, and assist in managing pharmaceutical costs. This article examines the legal and regulatory aspects of SB-17, explores legal challenges to the law, compares it to other state efforts to address rising drug prices, and discusses how California can maximize the impact of SB-17 by coupling the law with other incentiv...

Role of Direct Immunofluorescence in Cutaneous Small-Vessel Vasculitis: Experience From a Tertiary Center.

Skin is commonly affected by vasculitic process and often subjected to biopsy. Cutaneous vasculitis can be either primary or part of a systemic vasculitic process. This study was conducted to evaluate the diagnostic utility of direct immunofluorescence (DIF) in determination of etiology of cutaneous vasculitis. All histologically proven cases of cutaneous vasculitis over the past two and half years were retrospectively analyzed along with their clinical and DIF findings (IgG, IgA, IgM, and C3). Within this ...

Comparing immunoglobulin A vasculitis (Henoch-Schönlein purpura) in children and adults: a single-centre study from Turkey.

Immunoglobulin A vasculitis/Henoch-Schönlein purpura (IgAV/HSP) is a systemic vasculitis involving small vessels with the deposition of immune complexes containing IgA. It is the most common primary systemic vasculitis of childhood and is much less common in adults. Our aim was to investigate the differences and similarities between adult and paediatric patients with IgAV/HSP.

Fatal central nervous system lymphocytic vasculitis after treatment for Burkitt lymphoma in a patient with a SH2D1A mutation.

Very rarely, patients with X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome type 1 present central nervous system vasculitis. We report a patient carrying a SH2D1A mutation that, after treatment for lymphoma developed fatal CNS vasculitis. He lacked signs of ongoing EBV infection. We propose that impaired T cell homeostasis caused by SAP-deficiency facilitates aberrant CD8 T cell activation against vascular antigens promoting clinical manifestations.

ANCA-associated vasculitis: recent methodological advances for ANCA detection.

Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) play a central role in the diagnostic and pathogenesis of patients with small vessel vasculitis, so called ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV). ANCA in these diseases are almost always directed against proteinase 3 (PR3-ANCA) and myeloperoxidase (MPO-ANCA). Most laboratories worldwide use as standard the indirect immunofluorescence technique (IFT), on human neutrophils, to screen for ANCA, and then confirm positive IFT results with antigen specific immunoassyas for...

MitoFish and MiFish pipeline: a mitochondrial genome database of fish with an analysis pipeline for environmental DNA metabarcoding.

Fish mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) data form a fundamental basis for revealing vertebrate evolution and hydrosphere ecology. Here, we report recent functional updates of MitoFish, which is a database of fish mitogenomes with a precise annotation pipeline MitoAnnotator. Most importantly, we describe implementation of MiFish pipeline for metabarcoding analysis of fish mitochondrial environmental DNA (eDNA), which is a fast-emerging and powerful technology in fish studies. MitoFish, MitoAnnotator, and MiFi...

Early treatment for IgG4-related disease may prevent cognitive impairment caused by cerebral vasculitis: A case report and review of the literature.

IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a recently recognized disease entity. A 74-year-old male presented with transient headache. He was diagnosed IgG4-RD by pancreatic biopsy at the age of 72. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) showed disseminated cerebral microbleeds and microinfarctions in time and space. It suggested cerebral vasculitis, however any causative factor were not confirmed. IgG4-RD rarely causes cerebral vasculitis. This might be a first case of an asymptomatic cerebral vasculitis due to IgG4-RD. ...

Pricing of monoclonal antibody therapies: higher if used for cancer?

The rising prices of specialty drugs have prompted a debate about how medications are priced. With the average price of cancer drugs doubling in the last decade, the unsustainability of drug prices is especially concerning in oncology and hematology. The objective of this study was to compare the prices of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) approved in the last 20 years by the FDA across disease states.

Case Report of Empagliflozin-Induced Cutaneous Polyarteritis Nodosa.

Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a rare vasculitis affecting medium-sized vessels. Cutaneous PAN is a clinical variant, and we report the first case of empagliflozin-induced cutaneous PAN in a 69-year-old man. After starting empagliflozin, the patient presented with tender subcutaneous nodules on his legs, which showed a medium-sized vessel vasculitis on histopathology. Upon cessation of this medication, he had full resolution of these nodules. This case illustrates that empagliflozin can induce cutaneous PAN,...

Red Blood Cell Distribution Width Can Predict Vasculitis Activity and Poor Prognosis in Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis.

We investigated whether red blood cell distribution width (RDW) predicts vasculitis activity based on Birmingham vasculitis activity score (BVAS) or BVAS for granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) at diagnosis and poor prognosis during follow-up in patients with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV).

CIRCpe{Piwecka, 2017 #307}dia v2: An Updated Database for Comprehensive Circular RNA Annotation and Expression Comparison.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) from back-splicing of exon(s) have been recently identified to be broadly expressed in eukaryotes, in tissue- and species- specific manners. Although functions of most circRNAs remain elusive, some circRNAs are shown to be functional in gene expression regulation and potentially relate to diseases. Due to their stability, circRNAs can also be used as biomarkers for diagnosis. Profiling circRNAs by integrating their expression among different samples thus provides molecular basis for...
