In the original publication, conclusion was incorrectly updated in the article main text. The complete statement is given below.
In this paper, we revisit the relationship between housing prices and consumption in China by using a continuous wavelet analysis. This method provides an insight into the dynamic nexus in both time and frequency domains. In general, Empirical results show that there is a positive relationship between the two series in China, although it varies across time and frequencies. First, we find that disposable income is the core factor which affects both consumption and housing prices in China. Second, housing pri...
White House report on drug prices is a detailed road map.
The diagnosis of vasculitis in rheumatoid arthritis (RV) is associated with considerable mortality; therefore, understanding the basic mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of vasculitis is very important. Animal models of vasculitis have contributed to elucidating such mechanisms. We here introduce a Candida albicans water-soluble (CAWS) glycoprotein-induced vasculitis model and the methodological approach to evaluate inflammatory vascular change.
The authors report a case of a 69-year-old man with idiopathic leukocytoclastic cutaneous vasculitis. For three years, the lesions recurred with progressive worsening and were associated with systemic manifestations of low-grade fever, weight loss and raised inflammatory markers. The patient latter presented a 6th cranial nerve involvement, raising the concern of a possible systemic vasculitis, which was latter evidenced by the development of deep vein thrombosis and angina pectoris. The treatment of the pa...
Worldwide, one of the drivers of substitution and adulteration is the cost of the natural resources (plants, animals, fungi) that are ingredients of traditional medicines. Relatively few studies have been done that link prices of traditional medicine ingredients to what drives changes in price, yet this is an important topic. Theoretically, prices have been widely considered as an economic indicator of resource scarcity. Rare, slow growing medicinal plants sell for high prices and common, less popular speci...
Vasculitis are an heterogeneous group of syndromes, which shares inflammation of blood vessels wall as main feature. Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmatic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a necrotizing vasculitis, with few or no immune deposits, predominantly affecting small vessels (i.e., capillaries, venules, arterioles, and small arteries), associated with ANCAs specific for myeloperoxidase (MPO-ANCA) or proteinase 3 (PR3-ANCA). Clinical manifestations may be heterogeneous but an involvement of lun...
Medical devices are estimated to account for 6 percent of health expenditures in the US and 7 percent in European Union (EU) countries. Cardiac implants are a large segment of the market, but little is known about their prices. Using 2006-14 data from a large hospital panel survey, this article provides a systematic comparison of prices of cardiac implants between the US and four EU countries. The data reveal that prices were two to six times higher in the US than in Germany, where cardiac implants were g...
The California drug transparency bill (SB-17), signed into law in October 2017, seeks to promote transparency in pharmaceutical pricing, enhance understanding about pharmaceutical pricing trends, and assist in managing pharmaceutical costs. This article examines the legal and regulatory aspects of SB-17, explores legal challenges to the law, compares it to other state efforts to address rising drug prices, and discusses how California can maximize the impact of SB-17 by coupling the law with other incentiv...
Immunoglobulin A vasculitis/Henoch-Schönlein purpura (IgAV/HSP) is a systemic vasculitis involving small vessels with the deposition of immune complexes containing IgA. It is the most common primary systemic vasculitis of childhood and is much less common in adults. Our aim was to investigate the differences and similarities between adult and paediatric patients with IgAV/HSP.
Very rarely, patients with X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome type 1 present central nervous system vasculitis. We report a patient carrying a SH2D1A mutation that, after treatment for lymphoma developed fatal CNS vasculitis. He lacked signs of ongoing EBV infection. We propose that impaired T cell homeostasis caused by SAP-deficiency facilitates aberrant CD8 T cell activation against vascular antigens promoting clinical manifestations.
IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a recently recognized disease entity. A 74-year-old male presented with transient headache. He was diagnosed IgG4-RD by pancreatic biopsy at the age of 72. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) showed disseminated cerebral microbleeds and microinfarctions in time and space. It suggested cerebral vasculitis, however any causative factor were not confirmed. IgG4-RD rarely causes cerebral vasculitis. This might be a first case of an asymptomatic cerebral vasculitis due to IgG4-RD. ...
We report VCPA, our SNP/Indel Variant Calling Pipeline and data management tool used for analysis of whole genome and exome sequencing (WGS/WES) for the Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project. VCPA consists of two independent but linkable components: pipeline and tracking database. The pipeline, implemented using the Workflow Description Language and fully optimized for the Amazon elastic compute cloud environment, includes steps from aligning raw sequence reads, to variant calling using GATK. The tracking ...
To compare the prices paid to physicians by employer-sponsored Medicare Advantage (MA) plans with those paid by traditional Medicare (TM) and to determine whether the relationship between MA and TM prices is affected by the generosity of MA benchmarks.
Despite the current knowledge of UV, there is a lack of consensus among diagnostic criteria and management. In general, antihistamine therapy is regularly used for the symptomatic management of pruritus but does not control inflammation or alter the course of the disease. Monoclonal antibodies such as omalizumab (anti-IgE) have been proposed as a potential treatment for urticarial vasculitis. A few studies have reported the benefits of omalizumab in patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). Herein we descr...
Calprotectin is produced by neutrophils and macrophages, and released during the acute phase of the ANCA vasculitis. The aim of our study was to determine if serum and urine calprotectin are disease activity and prognosis biomarkers in ANCA vasculitis patients during remission.
In this analysis, we aimed to systematically compare percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) versus coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) in terms of adverse outcomes utilizing data from a recent (2015-2017) population of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) serves nutritious meals/snacks to >3.6 million children in early childhood education (ECE) centers. This study provides a nationwide assessment of nonhome-based CACFP-participating ECE centers' awareness of and reported readiness for implementing updated CACFP standards/best practices that took effect October 1, 2017.
Pulmonary vasculitis can be heterogeneous and have some pathophysiological, clinical, and biological specificities that might influence treatment choices. Main vasculitides associated with pulmonary vasculitis include antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis, immune complex small vessel vasculitis, and antiglomerular basement membrane disease. Patient characteristics and association of lung involvement with other manifestations affecting disease severity may also influence treatment ...
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) from back-splicing of exon(s) have been recently identified to be broadly expressed in eukaryotes, in tissue- and species- specific manners. Although functions of most circRNAs remain elusive, some circRNAs are shown to be functional in gene expression regulation and potentially relate to diseases. Due to their stability, circRNAs can also be used as biomarkers for diagnosis. Profiling circRNAs by integrating their expression among different samples thus provides molecular basis for...
This report describes the findings of the 2017 Spanish Catheter Ablation Registry.
Central nervous system (CNS) involvement in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has different facets such as anxiety, depression, cognitive impairment and vasculitis. We were interested in detecting subclinical CNS involvement in chronic HCV infected subjects with and without systemic vasculitis.
