Impact of HIV Self-Test Distribution to Male Partners of ANC Clients: Results of a Randomized Controlled Trial in Kenya.

In Kenya, HIV testing during first ANC visit is standard practice for pregnant women. Despite a policy promoting male partner testing in ANC, few male partners accompany their partners for HIV testing. We evaluated the impact of using oral HIV self-testing on HIV testing among male partners of ANC clients in Kenya.

What Does it Need to Improve Nutrition Quality? The Role of Public Partners.

Public partners play a key role when we want to improve nutrition quality. They will not succeed, when they try to achieve the goal alone or tend to dominate other players. In their responsibility for common interests it is up to public partners to moderate and facilitate the multi-stakeholder and multi-sectorial dialogue to improve nutrition quality. It is up to public partners to establish clear legal and structural guidelines aiming to bring all partners together, to avoid conflicts of interests and, abo...

Prevalence of HIV infection, access to HIV care, and response to antiretroviral therapy among partners of HIV-infected individuals in Thailand.

Health care providers usually focus on index HIV-infected patients and seldom obtain information from their partners. We aimed to determine HIV-preventative measures among couples, the prevalence of HIV infection, and treatment outcomes of partners.

An Innovative Approach to Assess Similarity Between Sex Partners.

We present a simple, comprehensive method for assessing similarity between sex partners of a participant and demonstrate its application using data collected in 2015 as part of CDC's National HIV behavioral surveillance (NHBS) among persons who inject drugs (PWID). We found that the pairwise similarity between sex partners of a survey participant was high. The similarity between second-to-last and third-to-last partners in the past 3 months was significantly higher than that between last and second-to-last...

Managing Type 2 diabetes as a couple: the influence of partners' beliefs on diabetes distress over time.

Partners and spouses have an important role in supporting healthy self-care in adults with Type 2 diabetes. While evidence has shown that the beliefs held by people with diabetes influence emotional wellbeing, little is known about the long-term impact of partners' illness beliefs on diabetes distress.

Individual and monitoring centre influences upon anticoagulation control of AF patients on warfarin: a longitudinal multi-centre UK-based study.

Time within therapeutic INR range (TTR) predicts benefits/risk of warfarin therapy. Identification of individual- and centre-related factors that influence TTR, and addressing them to improve anticoagulation control, are important. This study examined the impact of individual and centre-related factors upon long-term anticoagulation control in atrial fibrillation patients in seven UK-based monitoring services.

A Comparison of syphilis partner notification outcomes by reported use of internet-based apps to meet sex partners in North Carolina, 2013-2016.

Partner notification services (PNS) remain the backbone of syphilis control. The popularity of internet-based apps to meet sex partners among early syphilis (ES) patients may hinder the success of PNS if partners cannot be located.

Partners of Individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder: A Systematic Review of the Literature Examining Their Experiences and the Supports Available to Them.

Over a third of individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) are in long-term romantic partnerships, yet little is known about the experiences of their partners. Because difficulties in interpersonal relationships are a hallmark of BPD, it is especially important to understand the support needs of their romantic partners. This systematic review investigates the experiences of romantic partners of adult individuals with BPD and the interventions designed to support them. Twenty-two articles were fo...

The risk of Telling: A Dyadic Perspective on Romantic Partners' Responses to Child Sexual Abuse Disclosure and Their Associations with Sexual and Relationship Satisfaction.

Among 70 community couples who reported childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and disclosure to their partner, this study examined associations between survivors' perception of partner responses to their disclosure, and both partners' sexual and relationship satisfaction. Participants completed self-report questionnaires online. Results of path analyses within an actor-partner interdependence model indicated that survivors' perceived partner responses of emotional support to disclosure were associated with their own...

The role of positive psychological changes in anxiety and depression of patients with ovarian tumors and their partners: an observational study from the population-based PROFILES registry.

It is unknown whether positive psychological changes (e.g., in life perspective, self-perception, and social relationships) after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer can reduce anxiety and depression in patients and their partners. The first aim of the present study was to assess differences in anxiety and depression between patients diagnosed with an ovarian tumor and their partners. The second aim was to explore the mutual associations of patients' and partners' posttraumatic growth and their anxiety and ...

Teaching children with autism to identify and respond appropriately to the preferences of others during play.

We observed three children with autism spectrum disorder during structured play dates in which play partners displayed interest or disinterest in the toys with which they were playing. We then taught subjects to identify play partners' preferences and to make appropriate toy offers using a multiple-exemplar training package consisting of rules, midplay preference questions, prompting, and praise with observed generalization across untrained partners.

Season structures prokaryotic partners but not algal symbionts in subtropical hard corals.

Coral reef ecosystems have great economic, social, and ecological value. The ecological success of coral reef ecosystems critically depends on coral-algal symbiosis and coral-prokaryotic partnership. However, seasonal changes underlying these relationships in subtropical hard corals of Hong Kong are poorly studied. Here, we compared the community changes of algal symbionts and prokaryotic partners in Platygyra carnosa and Galaxea fascicularis from Hong Kong collected at two seasonal time points of winter an...

Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty for Congenital Aortic Stenosis: A 14-Year Single Centre Review.

The approach to intervention for congenital aortic valve stenosis (AS) differs depending upon centre bias toward a primary catheter or surgical approach. We therefore investigated associations with freedom from re-intervention (FFI) in the cohort of children who underwent primary balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) for congenital AS in our centre.

An approach to assessing the quality of birth centres results of the Dutch birth centre study.

to determine the usability of a recently developed set of 30 structure and process birth centre quality indicators.

Wound centres-how do we obtain high quality? The EWMA wound centre endorsement project.

Different types of multidisciplinary concepts for treating non-healing wounds have been developed. However, there is insufficient evidence on the quality of multidisciplinary wound centres, and a limited number of evaluation systems have so far been developed. The lack of an international wound centre evaluation/certification system is the basis for the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) Wound Centre Endorsement Project. The project aims to describe the minimum requirements for a wound management ...

Sexual functioning and relationship satisfaction of partners of breast cancer survivors who receive internet-based sex therapy.

As part of a larger, randomized controlled trial, we evaluated longitudinally the sexual functioning and relationship satisfaction of 69 partners of breast cancer (BC) survivors who received internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for sexual dysfunction. The findings suggest that internet-based CBT positively affects the partners' immediate post-CBT and longer-term overall sexual satisfaction, sexual intimacy and sexual relationship satisfaction. No sustained changes in other areas of sexual funct...

Mortality of patients examined at a diagnostic centre: A matched cohort study.

'Diagnostic Centres' has been established to provide a diagnostic pathway for patients with non-specific, serious symptoms that could be cancer. As little is known about the prognosis, we aimed to 1) analyse mortality of patients examined at the diagnostic centre, stratified on diagnostic outcome (cancer, serious-non-malignant disease, or other/no diagnosis), and 2) compare mortality for cancer patients examined at the diagnostic centre with cancer patients diagnosed through other routes.

Re-Operative Pancreaticoduodenectomy: Challenges and Outcomes.

Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) is a high-volume centre for pancreatic tumour resections. We found a continually increasing referral of pancreatic tumours for re-evaluation for surgery, after an initial unsuccessful attempt at resection.

The intergenerational transmission of partnering.

As divorce and cohabitation dissolution in the US have increased, partnering has expanded to the point that sociologists describe a merry-go-round of partners in American families. Could one driver of the increase in the number of partners be an intergenerational transmission of partnering? We discuss three theoretical perspectives on potential mechanisms that would underlie an intergenerational transmission of partnering: the transmission of economic hardship, the transmission of marriageable characteristi...

Consistent Condom Use by Married and Cohabiting Female Sex Workers in India: Investigating Relational Norms with Commercial Versus Intimate Partners.

This study examines determinants of consistent condom use (CCU) among married and cohabiting female sex workers (FSW) in India. Although CCU with clients is normative in the study area, most FSW do not consistently use condoms with intimate partners. Multiple logistic regression models indicated that condom use with intimate partners was associated with relationship status, cohabitation, HIV knowledge, STI symptoms, and being offered more money for sex without a condom by clients. Additionally, more days of...

Who are the male sexual partners of adolescent girls and young women? Comparative analysis of population data in three settings prior to DREAMS roll-out.

The DREAMS (Determined Resilient Empowered AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe) Partnership aims to reduce HIV incidence among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW,15-24y) with a core package of evidence-based interventions. Some interventions, including voluntary HIV counselling and testing and circumcision, will be targeted at the male sexual partners of AGYW. A priority of DREAMS is to characterise the male partners for effective targeting.

Daily Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptom Accommodation and Relationship Functioning in Military Couples.

Romantic partners' accommodation of trauma survivors' posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms (e.g., taking on tasks, survivors avoid participating in social withdrawal) is associated with lower relationship satisfaction for both partners and survivors. Little is known about associations of partner accommodation with other aspects of relationship functioning, like intimacy. Sixty-four male military veterans with at least subclinical PTSD and their partners participated in a 2-week daily diary study. V...

Joint Action in a Virtual Environment: Crossing Roads with Risky vs. Safe Human and Agent Partners.

This paper examined how people jointly coordinate their decisions and actions with risky vs. safe human and agent road-crossing partners (Fig. 1). The task for participants was to physically cross a steady stream of traffic in a large-screen virtual environment without getting hit by a car. The computer-generated (CG) agent was programmed to be either safe (taking only large gaps) or risky (also taking small gaps). The human partners were classified as safe (taking more large gaps) or risky (also taking som...

HPV infection and pre-neoplastic cervical lesions among 321 HIV+ women in Florence, Italy, 2006-2016: prevalence and associated factors.

Women living with HIV (WLWH) are at higher risk for HPV-related malignancies. To estimate the factors associated to HPV infection and to pre-neoplastic cervical lesions, we observed 321 WLWH in an HIV care-centre in Florence, Italy. In 2006-2016, WLWH followed at S.Maria Annunziata Hospital underwent to gynaecological examination including HPV-test, Pap-smear, colposcopy and, if needed, cervical biopsy. Demographical and clinical information were collected and linear logistic regression was performed. Among...

Efficacy of Crizotinib Among Different Types of ROS1 Fusion Partners in Patients with ROS1-Rearranged Non-small-cell Lung Cancer.

ROS1 rearrangement-positive non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) can be treated effectively, with an anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)/ROS1/mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor inhibitor such as crizotinib. However the rate of response remains variable. Although several ROS1 fusion partners have been identified, the efficacy of crizotinib in patients with different types of ROS1 fusion partners is poorly understood.
