The Development of the Working Alliance and Its Ability to Predict Outcome in Emotion-Focused Therapy for Social Anxiety Disorder.

The study focuses on the alliance of 12 patients receiving emotion-focused therapy for social anxiety. Anxiety symptoms and patient perception of the working alliance were examined weekly. The first eight sessions of each patient were coded for within- and between-sessions alliance levels (1008 segments were coded). At the sample level, the alliance shows linear development over time but high variability between individuals. More than half the patients showed alliance development consistent with the rupture...

Development of the Working Alliance Inventory-Short Form Japanese version through factor analysis and test-retest reliability.

Working alliance between the physiotherapist and patient is important for successful treatment in physiotherapy. Working alliance can be measured by a 12-item self-reporting measure with 7-point Likert scale, the Working Alliance Inventory Short-Form Client (WAI-SC).

The role of the State Security Service (Stasi) in the context of international clinical trials conducted by western pharmaceutical companies in Eastern Germany (1961-1990).

After the building of the Berlin Wall in the 1960s, a number of international pharmaceutical manufacturers from the West had their drugs tested in Eastern Germany (GDR). So far, the extensive collection of documents on the subject stored in the archives of the GDR State Security Service (Stasi, MfS) has not been systematically analysed. Until now, the role of the Stasi with respect to the surveillance of the trials has been unclear.

The alliance in adult psychotherapy: A meta-analytic synthesis.

The alliance continues to be one of the most investigated variables related to success in psychotherapy irrespective of theoretical orientation. We define and illustrate the alliance (also conceptualized as therapeutic alliance, helping alliance, or working alliance) and then present a meta-analysis of 295 independent studies that covered more than 30,000 patients (published between 1978 and 2017) for face-to-face and Internet-based psychotherapy. The relation of the alliance and treatment outcome was inves...

Client and therapist match on gender, age, and income: Does match within the therapeutic dyad predict early growth in the therapeutic alliance?

Because of the importance of the therapeutic alliance across psychotherapeutic treatments, it is important to study variables that predict the development of a positive therapeutic alliance. This study investigates if different levels of gender, age, and income match between therapists and clients predict early development of the therapeutic alliance.

Utilising a multi-item questionnaire to assess household food security in Australia.

Currently, two food sufficiency questions are utilised as a proxy measure of national food security status in Australia. These questions do not capture all dimensions of food security and have been attributed with underreporting of the problem. The purpose of this study was to investigate food security using the short form of the US Household Food Security Survey Module (HFSSM) within an Australian context; and explore the relationship between food security status and multiple socio-demographic variables.

Attachment security priming: a systematic review.

Attachment security priming has been used to shed light on the cognitive processes related to attachment internal working models as well as the cognitive substrates of people's attachment-related affect and behavior. Security primes activate a sense of attachment security by making mental representations in one's memory more accessible and salient. In the current paper, we report on a qualitative synthesis of 20 studies published in the last two years to determine the effects of security priming. We found t...

"If walls could talk": A photo-elicitation-based observation of service users' perceptions of the care setting and of its influence on the therapeutic alliance in addiction treatment.

A good quality therapeutic alliance is central to the support and treatment of people who use psychoactive substances. Although previous research has suggested that place has an important role in sustaining the therapeutic alliance, this issue has been insufficiently explored in the field of addiction treatment. We conducted a qualitative study using photo-elicitation and interviewing service users in an outpatient addiction treatment centre. They reported both strongly positive and negative perceptions of ...

Working Alliance and Stages of Change for Employment: The Intermediary Role of Autonomous Motivation, Outcome Expectancy and Vocational Rehabilitation Engagement.

Purpose Working alliance is one of the most important common factors for successful counseling/psychotherapy outcomes. Based on the empirical literature about working alliance, it seems that self-determination and self-efficacy theory (SDT/SET) can potentially be used as a motivational model to explain the relationship between working alliance and vocational rehabilitation (VR) outcomes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate three primary SDT/SET constructs, autonomous motivation, expectancy and engageme...

Emotional security theory: An application to sibling bereavement.

There is a need for guiding theory to understand the experiences and outcomes of bereaved siblings, particularly from a family systems framework. The present study investigated the relevance of emotional security theory in a sample of 72 young adults who experienced sibling bereavement. We investigated (1) whether perceptions of prolonged parental grief predicted key aspects of emotional security (disengagement, preoccupation, and security), and (2) whether emotional security mediated a relation between per...

Probing the amorphous state of pharmaceutical compounds within mesoporous material using pair distribution function analysis.

Pharmaceutical compounds with poor solubility are loaded within mesoporous materials in order to understand the effect of mesoscale confinement on their dissolution behaviour. Structural and calorimetric characterization is combined with atomic pair distribution function analysis probing the interactions between the silica surface and the loaded amorphous compound. Whilst different degrees of amorphism are not identifiable from X-ray diffraction data or calorimetry techniques, the atomic pair distribution f...

The role of psychodynamic and personality assessment in psychopharmacotherapy of suicidal psychotic patients.

Optimal psychopharmacotherapy is based upon the results of many different factors. One of the main factors is therapeutic alliance. The role of psychodynamic is very important in the context of good therapeutic alliance. Lack of mentalizing capacity implies disturbed view of psychopharmacotherapy. Therapeutic relationship and optimal alliance offers the frame for acceptance of psychiatric drugs as positive and useful for psychological growth. Our literature search of a recent papers relating psychopharmacol...

Walking a security tightrope: relationship-induced changes in attachment security.

Little is known about how romantic relationships enhance long-term attachment security. Change is likely to involve revising deep-seated beliefs and expectations regarding one's self as being unworthy and others as untrustworthy (insecure internal working models). When individuals become anxious, partners can provide immediate reassurance, but the path to long-term security may hinge on addressing the individual's insecure self-perceptions; when individuals become avoidant, partners can 'soften' interaction...

What matters more? Common or specific factors in cognitive behavioral therapy for OCD: Therapeutic alliance and expectations as predictors of treatment outcome.

CBT for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a strong challenge to the contention that common factors explain most of the variance in outcomes in all therapies and all disorders, given that the treatment is focused and placebo response is low. In this study, the relative contributions of expectancy and therapeutic alliance as predictors of outcome in the treatment of OCD are examined and compared to the contribution of specific treatment effects. One hundred and eight patients with OCD were randomly assig...

Requirements for a cross-location biobank IT infrastructure : Survey of stakeholder input on the establishment of a biobank network of the German Biobank Alliance (GBA).

Updating energy security and environmental policy: Energy security theories revisited.

The energy security theories are based on the premises of sufficient and reliable supply of fossil fuels at affordable prices in centralized supply systems. Policy-makers and company chief executives develop energy security strategies based on the energy security theories and definitions that dominate in the research and policy discourse. It is therefore of utmost importance that scientists revisit these theories in line with the latest changes in the energy industry: the rapid advancement of renewables and...

Crystallization kinetics of an amorphous pharmaceutical compound using fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM).

Pharmaceutical scientists are increasingly interested in amorphous drug formulations especially due to their higher dissolution rates. Consequently, thorough characterization and analysis of these formulations are becoming more and more important for the pharmaceutical industry. Here, fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) was used to monitor the crystallization of an amorphous pharmaceutical compound indomethacin. Initially, we identified different solid indomethacin forms, amorphous, γ- and α-c...

Intracochlear drug delivery: Fluorescent tracer evaluation for quantification of distribution in the cochlear partition.

Measurement of drug distribution in the inner ear has important roles in the design of local delivery methods, such as direct, intracochlear delivery, and in assessment of emerging drug candidates in preclinical animal models. Sampling methods have been used in the past to measure drug concentrations in the cochlear fluids, but these methods provide no direct information about drug distribution in the cochlear tissues. In this work, we evaluated four fluorescent markers that simulate drug distribution in th...

Displacement of social security and social disprotection in Brazil.

After 30 years in force, CF-88 must be salvaged and commemorated but also evaluated in relation to how much social and political resistance it acquired in the execution of its determinations. These determinations not only conflict with those of the dictatorial period preceding it but were also shown to be minimally attractive to neoliberal forces in Brazil in the late 1980s and early 1990s and are now widely recognized as conservative. One of the main recommendations of CF-88 - the subject of this article -...

Synthesizing water quality indicators from standardized geospatial information to remedy water security challenges: A review.

Water is vital not only for food, energy and sanitation but also for ecosystem functioning, human health, socio-economic progress and poverty reduction. Water security exists when all people have physical and economical access to sufficient, safe, and clean water that meets basic needs. However, water security is threatened by growing human population, episodic environmental disasters, indiscriminate land management practices, contaminants, and escalation in geopolitical conflicts.
