Hemoglobin F (HbF) in blood lysate can be accurately measured by various methods, including immunoassay. In this study, we have produced polyclonal antibody (pAb) against HbF and established a modified sandwich-type ELISA for HbF quantification in blood lysates. The modified sandwich ELISA utilized anti-γ-globin monoclonal antibody clones Thal N/B as the capture antibody (Ab) coated on solid-phase, fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labeled pAb as the detecting Ab, and HPR-labeled anti-FITC Ab as the signal...
We utilize the social intuitionist approach to moral judgment and moral disengagement theory to understand why and when employees sabotage customers. We contend that when customers mistreat employees (i.e., customer mistreatment), employees experience intuitive emotional reactions in the form of hostility, which automatically activates devaluation of targets, a specific facet of moral disengagement. In turn, employees become unencumbered by moral self-regulation and sabotage customers who mistreat them (i.e...
In this work, total ambient dose equivalent buildup factors for Portland concrete slabs are calculated using Monte Carlo n-particle software MCNP6™. Buildup factor calculations could approach intractable solutions in general as they depend on a large number of variables. These include geometry, source energy, and the composition of the shield (which itself can be heterogeneous). In this work, Cf and americium-beryllium sources are considered, as well as monoenergetic incident neutrons in the energy range ...
Some patients calling ambulance services (known as Emergency Medical Services internationally) are not transported to hospital. In England, national ambulance quality indicators show considerable variation in non-transport rates between the ten large regional ambulance services. The aim of this study was to explain variation between ambulance services in two types of non-transport: discharge at scene and telephone advice.
Our goal was to help prevent drug-related morbidity and mortality by developing a collaborative multidisciplinary team care (MTC) service model using a service design framework that addressed the unmet needs and perspectives of diverse stakeholders. Our service model was based on a "4D" framework that included Discover, Define, Design, and Develop phases. In the "discover" phase, we conducted desk research and field research of stakeholders to identify the unmet needs in existing patient care services. We u...
Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions have a significant impact on the health and operational readiness of military members. The Canadian Forces Health Services (CFHS) provides a spectrum of health services in managing Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel health care needs with on-base and off-base services provided by civilian and uniformed health care professionals, including chiropractors. Although chiropractic services are available in US DoD and VA systems, little is known about the facilitators and barrie...
Drop-in centers offer a range of services to assist unaccompanied youth experiencing homelessness, but little is known about their perceptions of drop-in centers or use of different services. A random sample of 273 youth experiencing homelessness in the Los Angeles area who had ever used a drop-in center was surveyed. Most youth heard about local drop-in centers from peers (65.1%). They generally reported positive perceptions of the drop-in center environment, staff, and clients; overall, 57.8% were "very" ...
CLinical pharmacy services (CPS) are professional services provided by pharmacists, who use their skills and knowledge to take an active role in patient health. Maternal and child protection services ("PMI") are French universal services providing prevention and health promotion services to parents and their newborn children up to the age of 6. They specifically offer home visitation services in order to reach families that could not be seen otherwise. In 2015, the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) developed an in-house magnetic resonance imaging service team. Within two years, the team achieved substantial savings in operational costs, generated new revenue, improved uptime and response time, and improved customer satisfaction within the hospital. Through careful planning and collaboration, the Clinical Engineering Department at CHEO was able to bring imaging services in house successfully, demonstrating improvements over historical original ...
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth are more than twice as likely to attempt suicide than their peers. Although LGBT-specific crisis services have been developed, little is known about the need for these services beyond that of general lifeline services.
Since the late 1990s, health departments and STD programs throughout the U.S. have used technologies, such as the internet and mobile phones, to provide services to persons with a sexually transmitted infection, including HIV, and their sex partners, also known as partner services. This study reviewed the published literature to assess and compare partner services outcomes as a result of using technology and to calculate cost savings through cases averted.
Female sex workers (FSWs) in many settings have restricted access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. We therefore conducted an implementation study to test a 'diagonal' intervention which combined strengthening of FSW-targeted services (vertical) with making public health facilities more FSW-friendly (horizontal). We piloted it over 18 months and then assessed its performance.
As of 2015, only 8 percent of US adults ages thirty-five and older had received all of the high-priority, appropriate clinical preventive services recommended for them. Nearly 5 percent of adults did not receive any such services. Further delivery system-level efforts are needed to increase the use of preventive services.
The Israeli Medical Corps provides a great deal of medical services by its own medical personnel and purchases some services from various civilian suppliers, including public hospitals. Although the IDF has bought hospital services since it's early days, few attempts have been made to purchase primary and secondary medical services for soldiers in rear units. This article presents an analysis of the outsourcing project ("Aviv" project) of medical services for rear units which was operating between the years...
