Behavioral thermoregulation is a key strategy for insects to cope with heat stress. The rice leaf folder Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guenée (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) larvae usually fold one leaf to construct a leaf shelter. The larvae are vulnerable to heat stress, and the temperature in summer is often beyond the optimal range of them. Shelters confer protection against environmental stress but unclear whether larvae will alter shelter-building behavior when encountering heat stress. We observed the shelter-b...
Self-medication is very common especially in developing countries and is documented to be associated with many health risks including antibiotic resistance. This study investigated the prevalence, determinants and knowledge of self-medication among residents of Siha District in Tanzania. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 300 residents in a rural District of Kilimanjaro region, North-eastern Tanzania from 1st to 28th April 2017. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect information regard...
Previous research suggests that parental knowledge of the child's activities and whereabouts prevents adolescents' alcohol use. However, evidence on whether the positive effects of maternal and paternal knowledge are distinctive for boys' and girls' alcohol use is inconclusive. We examined whether perceived parental knowledge at age 13 prevents alcohol use at age 16, whether the effect of maternal and paternal knowledge was the same for both genders, and whether paternal knowledge had as strong an effect as...
Algebraic competence is a major determinant of college access and career prospects, and equal sign knowledge is taken to be foundational to algebra knowledge. However, few studies have documented a causal effect of early equal sign knowledge on later algebra skill. This study assessed whether second-grade students' equal sign knowledge prospectively predicts their fourth-grade algebra knowledge, when controlling for demographic and individual difference factors. Children (N = 177; M = 7.61) were assesse...
Many nurses in Taiwan use quantitative research for their master's thesis. However, qualitative research explores humankind in depth providing a more holistic approach relating to nursing. The purpose of this study was to explore the rationale postgraduate students used to choose the research methods for their masters' theses in Taiwan. A descriptive qualitative research design was used. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews of sixteen nursing students studying a master's from seven differe...
The aim of this study was to investigate knowledge and demographic factors associated with a lack of knowledge proficiency about urinary incontinence (UI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) among pregnant and postpartum women.
To determine the pressure injury knowledge of health professionals before and after providing an interactive, educational intervention.
Deficiencies in airway management knowledge can result in harm, especially in tracheostomy patients. Our objective is to assess the degree of knowledge in different medical specialties, before and after targeted airway education.
Improving patients' tuberculosis (TB) knowledge is a salient component of TB control strategies. Patient knowledge of TB may encourage infection prevention behaviors and improve treatment adherence. The purpose of this study is to examine how TB knowledge and infection prevention behaviors change over the course of treatment.
The prevalence of alcohol related harm (ARH) in Israel has traditionally been low. The lack of familiarity with ARH may derive from the fact that in the past there was limited clinical exposure to these harms. However, ARH is becoming more common in Israel but it is unclear whether the medical and nursing workforce's knowledge is adequate to manage these problems. Our main objective was to assess knowledge regarding ARH among medical and nursing staff (MNS) in an Israeli university affiliated general hospit...
Government and professional organizations have issued a call for evidence-based practice (EBP), prompting the development of competencies and expectations for knowledge, skills, and attitudes. However, EBP is still inconsistently implemented. To advance the science of nursing globally, educators and leaders need to use consistent, rigorous evaluation methods to assess the EBP knowledge of students and clinicians.

To estimate radiologistś level of knowledge of and their implication in radioprotection.
Evaluate potential for data mining auditing techniques to identify hidden concepts in diagnostic knowledge bases (KB). Improving completeness enhances KB applications such as differential diagnosis and patient case simulation.
Parent knowledge about developmental disabilities (DDs) may facilitate access to DD care; however, parents may vary in their knowledge and familiarity with common DDs. This study aimed to assess racial/ethnic and language differences in low-income families' familiarity, knowledge, and personal experience with DDs.

Existing research suggests that the public demonstrates inadequate knowledge about traumatic brain injury (TBI), indicating a need for public education initiatives; however, limited research exists on the effectiveness of these initiatives. The purposes of this study were to (1) identify whether any demographic/personal variables (e.g. gender, age, experience with TBI) predicted TBI knowledge and (2) determine whether presenting an educational video to members of the general public would improve knowledge a...
Cell-culture studies are our main source of knowledge of the various forms of programmed cell death. Yet genetic perturbations of death-protein function in animal models are almost the only source of our knowledge of the physiological roles of these programs. Shortcomings in the state of knowledge acquired by these two experimental approaches are exemplified in this Perspective by reference to research on the contribution of apoptosis to lymphocyte development, a subject on which there is already much knowl...
Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency requiring early diagnosis and urgent treatment. Knowledge is crucial, especially in major risk groups such as the elderly. We therefore assessed sophisticated knowledge about sepsis in the German elderly population.
This paper introduces a novel survey instrument to identify distinct components of nutrition knowledge and test for links between knowledge and dietary choices in Southern Malawi. Our first aim is to distinguish respondents' familiarity with recommended behaviours, such as when to start breastfeeding or introduce solid foods, from respondents' factual knowledge about mechanisms, such as whether biscuits or papaya and orange fruit or orange Fanta contribute more to future health. We find knowledge of nutriti...
Hearing aid management describes the skills and knowledge required for the handling, use, care, and maintenance of the hearing aid. The importance of hearing aid management skills and knowledge is evidenced by their association with hearing aid outcomes. However, the nature of this association and the influence of participant factors on this association are unknown. Accordingly, the aims of the current study were to (a) investigate participant factors that influence hearing aid management skills and knowled...

Data was obtained through an online survey derived from a modified version of the SCD Knowledge Assessment Tool. The majority of participants (79%) reported previous SCD knowledge; however, ...
The Dementia Knowledge Assessment Tool Version Two (DKAT2) was developed to measure caregivers' knowledge about the trajectory of dementia and assess changes in the knowledge before and after educational programs. The DKAT2 is a 21-item tool with questions about several aspects of dementia. The possible answers for each question are "yes", "no" or "don't know". The maximum score is 21.
