Brain Effects of Escitalopram and Citalopram Using fMRI

Escitalopram (Lexapro) and citalopram (Celexa) are similar selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors that alter blood flow to the amygdala and other brain structures involved in regulating m...

A Study Comparing Duloxetine to Other Antidepressants in the Treatment of Severe Depression

The purpose of this study is to compare duloxetine with other antidepressants in the treatment of severe depression.

Amitriptyline and Paroxetine Treatment of Major Depression

Activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal system is monitored using saliva cortisol sampling during the antidepressant treatment with amitriptyline and paroxetine in moderately to s...

Comparative Efficacy of Duloxetine vs Escitalopram in Patients With Fibromyalgia

Duloxetine is FDA approved as pharmacological treatment for Fibromyalgia. The use of SSRIs has been endorsed by the 2013 Canadian guidelines. The data available for Escitalopram as a treat...

Potential of Oral Fluid as a Clinical Specimen for Compliance Monitoring of Psychopharmacotherapy.

Oral fluid (OF) is being developed as a specimen for the determination of drug intake as an alternative to serum and plasma. It is generally considered as an attractive specimen due to the noninvasive...

Reference Brain/Blood Concentrations of Citalopram, Duloxetine, Mirtazapine and Sertraline.

Postmortem blood samples may not accurately reflect antemortem drug concentrations, as the levels of some drugs increase due to postmortem redistribution (PMR). The brain has been suggested as an alte...

Differential effects of serotonin reuptake inhibitors fluoxetine and escitalopram on bone markers and microarchitecture in Wistar rats.

Evidence from several studies indicates that the long-term treatment of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) is associated with a decrease in bone mass and increase the risk of fractures. T...

Impact of CYP2D6 functional allelic variations on phenoconversion and drug-drug interactions.

We investigated whether CYP2D6 extensive metabolizers (EM) carrying a non-functional allele are at higher risk of phenoconversion to poor metabolizers in presence of CYP2D6 inhibitors. Seventeen homoz...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Tricyclic antidepressant with anticholinergic and sedative properties. It appears to prevent the re-uptake of norepinephrine and serotonin at nerve terminals, thus potentiating the action of these neurotransmitters. Amitriptyline also appears to antagonize cholinergic and alpha-1 adrenergic responses to bioactive amines.

A serotonin uptake inhibitor that is effective in the treatment of depression.

The first highly specific serotonin uptake inhibitor. It is used as an antidepressant and often has a more acceptable side-effects profile than traditional antidepressants.

A thiophene derivative and selective NEUROTRANSMITTER UPTAKE INHIBITOR for SEROTONIN and NORADRENALINE (SNRI). It is an ANTIDEPRESSIVE AGENT and ANXIOLYTIC, and is also used for the treatment of pain in patients with DIABETES MELLITUS and FIBROMYALGIA.

A tricyclic antidepressant with actions similar to AMITRIPTYLINE.
