The primary objective of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of filtered sunlight phototherapy. Sunlight will be filtered by flexible (window-tinting) film. The subject pop...
The objective of the study is to evaluate the use of sunlight instead of red light during photodynamic therapy of actinic keratoses using methyl aminolevulinate
The primary purpose of this pilot study is to test a novel head worn light device (Re-Timer®) as an intervention to improve glucose metabolism in people with prediabetes. The hypothesis i...
The proposed study will determine the effect of a public health strategy (ie. increased sun light exposure and increased calcium intake) to reduce falls in older people in residential care...
In the study at hand, six patients with light to moderate Alzheimer's disease will be enrolled and implanted with bilateral electrodes in the nucleus basalis Meynert.
A dysfunction of glutamate signaling is implicated at several levels in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Currently, metabotropic glutamate receptors, which have a wide distribution in the cent...
Vitamin D (VD) deficiency is a growing problem, affecting a significant portion of the population in many countries. VD deficiency may be related to several diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD...
Apolipoprotein E4 (apoE4) is the strongest genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. Despite nearly 25 years of research, the mechanism by which apoE4 confers increased risk for Alzheimer's disease...
The guidelines for night and shift workers recommend that after night work, they should sleep in a dark environment during the daytime. However, staying in a dark environment during the daytime reduce...
Neuroimaging modalities can measure different aspects of the disease process in Alzheimer's disease, although the relationship between these modalities is unclear.
The treatment of disease by exposing the body to SUNLIGHT, a therapeutic use of SUNBATHING.
Type III intermediate filament proteins that assemble into neurofilaments, the major cytoskeletal element in nerve axons and dendrites. They consist of three distinct polypeptides, the neurofilament triplet. Types I, II, and IV intermediate filament proteins form other cytoskeletal elements such as keratins and lamins. It appears that the metabolism of neurofilaments is disturbed in Alzheimer's disease, as indicated by the presence of neurofilament epitopes in the neurofibrillary tangles, as well as by the severe reduction of the expression of the gene for the light neurofilament subunit of the neurofilament triplet in brains of Alzheimer's patients. Abnormal structures located chiefly in distal dendrites and, along with NEUROFIBRILLARY TANGLES and SENILE PLAQUES, constitute the three morphological hallmarks of ALZHEIMER DISEASE. Neuropil threads are made up of straight and paired helical filaments which consist of abnormally phosphorylated microtubule-associated tau proteins. It has been suggested that the threads have a major role in the cognitive impairment seen in Alzheimer disease.
Vaccines or candidate vaccines used to prevent or treat ALZHEIMER DISEASE.
Symptoms of NAUSEA and VOMITING in pregnant women that usually occur in the morning during the first 2 to 3 months of PREGNANCY. Severe persistent vomiting during pregnancy is called HYPEREMESIS GRAVIDARUM.
