Electrical activity in the brain known as "gamma" brainwaves help connect and process information throughout the brain. These gamma waves are diminished in Alzheimer's disease. New researc...
The primary objective of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of filtered sunlight phototherapy. Sunlight will be filtered by flexible (window-tinting) film. The subject pop...
The objective of the study is to evaluate the use of sunlight instead of red light during photodynamic therapy of actinic keratoses using methyl aminolevulinate
The primary purpose of this pilot study is to test a novel head worn light device (Re-Timer®) as an intervention to improve glucose metabolism in people with prediabetes. The hypothesis i...
The proposed study will determine the effect of a public health strategy (ie. increased sun light exposure and increased calcium intake) to reduce falls in older people in residential care...
Vitamin D (VD) deficiency is a growing problem, affecting a significant portion of the population in many countries. VD deficiency may be related to several diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD...
Alzheimer's disease is a multifactorial disorder for which there is no disease-modifying treatment yet. CB2 receptors have emerged as a promising therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease because the...
A growing body of evidence suggests that the plasma concentration of the neurofilament light chain (NfL) might be considered a plasma biomarker for the screening of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's di...
To date, the therapeutic paradigm for Alzheimer's disease (AD) focuses on a single intervention for all patients. However, a large literature in oncology supports the therapeutic benefits of a precisi...
Lack of a satisfactory animal model for Alzheimer's disease (AD) has limited the reach progress of the pathogenesis of the disease and of therapeutic agents aiming to important pathophysiological poin...
The treatment of disease by exposing the body to SUNLIGHT, a therapeutic use of SUNBATHING.
Type III intermediate filament proteins that assemble into neurofilaments, the major cytoskeletal element in nerve axons and dendrites. They consist of three distinct polypeptides, the neurofilament triplet. Types I, II, and IV intermediate filament proteins form other cytoskeletal elements such as keratins and lamins. It appears that the metabolism of neurofilaments is disturbed in Alzheimer's disease, as indicated by the presence of neurofilament epitopes in the neurofibrillary tangles, as well as by the severe reduction of the expression of the gene for the light neurofilament subunit of the neurofilament triplet in brains of Alzheimer's patients. (Can J Neurol Sci 1990 Aug;17(3):302)
Abnormal structures located chiefly in distal dendrites and, along with NEUROFIBRILLARY TANGLES and SENILE PLAQUES, constitute the three morphological hallmarks of ALZHEIMER DISEASE. Neuropil threads are made up of straight and paired helical filaments which consist of abnormally phosphorylated microtubule-associated tau proteins. It has been suggested that the threads have a major role in the cognitive impairment seen in Alzheimer disease.
Vaccines or candidate vaccines used to prevent or treat ALZHEIMER DISEASE.
Symptoms of NAUSEA and VOMITING in pregnant women that usually occur in the morning during the first 2 to 3 months of PREGNANCY. Severe persistent vomiting during pregnancy is called HYPEREMESIS GRAVIDARUM.
