Radcomp Breast Proton vs Photon

2015-11-12 19:08:22 | BioPortfolio

Summary

A pragmatic randomized clinical trial of patients with locally advanced breast cancer randomized to either proton or photon therapy and followed longitudinally for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, health-related quality of life, and cancer control outcomes. The investigators hypothesize that proton therapy, as part of multi-modality curative treatment for locally-advanced breast cancer, reduces major cardiovascular events, is non-inferior in cancer control, and improves HRQOL compared to photon therapy.

The Differential Impact of Proton Beam Irradiation Versus Conventional Radiation on Organs-at-risk in Stage II-III Breast Cancer Patients

The objective of the study is to serve as a correlative study for patients enrolled on the RadCOMP trial (NCT02603341), a randomized phase III study of stage II and III breast cancer patie...

3D-CRT, Proton, or Brachytherapy APBI in Treating Patients With Invasive and Non-invasive Breast Cancer

This phase II trial studies the side effects of three-dimensional conformal external-beam photon radiotherapy (3D-CRT), proton, or brachytherapy accelerated partial breast irradiation (APB...

Proton Boost in Prostate Cancer

This study uses photon radiation with a proton boost to treat prostate cancer. The purpose of this study is to determine if proton therapy as a boost following photon intensity modulated r...

A Prospective Comparative Study of Outcomes With Proton and Photon Radiation in Prostate Cancer

This study is a large, prospective, pragmatic, controlled comparison of patient-centric outcomes [quality of life (QOL), toxicity, and disease control] between parallel cohorts of men with...

Dose Escalated Proton Beam Therapy or Photon Therapy for Esophageal Cancer

This study will evaluate if proton beam therapy as part of chemoradiation results in a decrease in diffusion lung capacity of carbon monoxide (DLCO) compared to photon radiation therapy fo...

Early outcomes of breast cancer patients treated with post-mastectomy uniform scanning proton therapy.

Postmastectomy proton radiotherapy improves normal tissue sparing in comparison to photon-based approaches. Several studies have reported dosimetry comparison and tolerable acute toxicity profile with...

Improved long-term patient-reported health and well-being outcomes of early-stage breast cancer treated with partial breast proton therapy.

Because early-stage breast cancer can be treated successfully by a variety of breast-conservation approaches, long-term quality of life (QoL) is an important consideration in assessing treatment outco...

Contouring consensus guidelines in breast cancer radiotherapy: Comparison and systematic review of patterns of failure.

Adequate coverage of sites harbouring potential microscopic disease is paramount, where the clinical decision has been made to include regional lymph node radiotherapy for patients with breast cancer....

Automated robust proton planning using dose-volume histogram-based mimicking of the photon reference dose and reducing organ at risk dose optimization.

Patient selection for proton therapy is increasingly based on proton to photon plan comparisons. To improve efficient decision making, we developed a dose mimicking and reducing (DMR) algorithm to aut...

Physical activity in breast cancer survivors: A systematic review and meta-analysis on overall and breast cancer survival.

To further quantify the association between physical activity (PA) after breast cancer diagnosis and all-cause mortality, breast cancer mortality and/or breast cancer recurrence.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Abnormal accumulation of lymph in the arm, shoulder and breast area associated with surgical or radiation breast cancer treatments (e.g., MASTECTOMY).

Metastatic breast cancer characterized by EDEMA and ERYTHEMA of the affected breast due to LYMPHATIC METASTASIS and eventual obstruction of LYMPHATIC VESSELS by the cancer cells.

A infiltrating (invasive) breast cancer, relatively uncommon, accounting for only 5%-10% of breast tumors in most series. It is often an area of ill-defined thickening in the breast, in contrast to the dominant lump characteristic of ductal carcinoma. It is typically composed of small cells in a linear arrangement with a tendency to grow around ducts and lobules. There is likelihood of axillary nodal involvement with metastasis to meningeal and serosal surfaces. (DeVita Jr et al., Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology, 3d ed, p1205)

A deoxycytidine derivative and fluorouracil PRODRUG that is used as an ANTINEOPLASTIC ANTIMETABOLITE in the treatment of COLON CANCER; BREAST CANCER and GASTRIC CANCER.

Carbohydrate antigen elevated in patients with tumors of the breast, ovary, lung, and prostate as well as other disorders. The mucin is expressed normally by most glandular epithelia but shows particularly increased expression in the breast at lactation and in malignancy. It is thus an established serum marker for breast cancer.
