Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty in Non-operable CTEPH Patients

Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) emerged as a potential therapeutic option for non-operable patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). The aim of this study w...

International BPA Registry

The International Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA) Registry is a prospective, multi-center, long-term observational project. Scheduled to start data collection in Q4 2017, the registry ...

Riociguat in Patients With Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH)

The aim of the study is to assess safety, tolerability and clinical effects of different doses of riociguat in patients with inoperable Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEP...

Pilot Study to Evaluate Right Ventricular Function With Riociguat in CTEPH

Chronic thromboembolic Pulmonary hypertension(CTEPH) is characterized by obstruction of the pulmonary vasculature, leading to increased pulmonary vascular resistance, progressive pulmonary...

Riociguat in Patients With Operable CTEPH Prior to Pulmonary Endarterectomy (PEA Bridging Study)

This is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre, multinational, prospective study in patients with operable chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) prior ...

Balloon pulmonary angioplasty vs riociguat in patients with inoperable chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

No previous meta-analyses have compared the efficacy and safety of BPA with riociguat therapy in inoperable CTEPH patients.

Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (Percutaneous Transluminal Pulmonary Angioplasty) for Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension: A Japanese Perspective.

In recent years, therapeutic options for patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) have expanded with the development of catheter-based interventional therapy, namely balloon...

Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension: Endovascular Treatment.

Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a rare cause of pulmonary hypertension; less than 5% of pulmonary hypertension is caused by recurrent pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE). By defin...

Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty for Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension.

Prolonged QRS duration as a predictor of right ventricular dysfunction after balloon pulmonary angioplasty.

Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) has shown beneficial effects for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). However, previous studies have shown less cardiac output improvement and sym...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Hypertrophy and dilation of the RIGHT VENTRICLE of the heart that is caused by PULMONARY HYPERTENSION. This condition is often associated with pulmonary parenchymal or vascular diseases, such as CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE and PULMONARY EMBOLISM.

Techniques using laser energy in combination with a balloon catheter to perform angioplasty. These procedures can take several forms including: 1, laser fiber delivering the energy while the inflated balloon centers the fiber and occludes the blood flow; 2, balloon angioplasty immediately following laser angioplasty; or 3, laser energy transmitted through angioplasty balloons that contain an internal fiber.

A technique utilizing a laser coupled to a catheter which is used in the dilatation of occluded blood vessels. This includes laser thermal angioplasty where the laser energy heats up a metal tip, and direct laser angioplasty where the laser energy directly ablates the occlusion. One form of the latter approach uses an EXCIMER LASER which creates microscopically precise cuts without thermal injury. When laser angioplasty is performed in combination with balloon angioplasty it is called laser-assisted balloon angioplasty (ANGIOPLASTY, BALLOON, LASER-ASSISTED).

Placement of a balloon-tipped catheter into the pulmonary artery through the antecubital, subclavian, and sometimes the femoral vein. It is used to measure pulmonary artery pressure and pulmonary artery wedge pressure which reflects left atrial pressure and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure. The catheter is threaded into the right atrium, the balloon is inflated and the catheter follows the blood flow through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle and out into the pulmonary artery.

Familial or idiopathic hypertension in the PULMONARY CIRCULATION which is not secondary to other disease.
