Collection of Tissue, Blood, and Cells to Be Used For Studying the Causes, Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Breast Cancer

The purpose of this study is to collect a blood sample from patients with breast disease (cases) and from individuals without breast cancer (controls)that may be used for research purposes...

Livial Intervention Following Breast Cancer; Efficacy, Recurrence and Tolerability Endpoints (LIBERATE)(COMPLETED)(P05885)

Postmenopausal women with a history of breast cancer often suffer from climacteric symptoms such as hot flushes and sweating episodes. Conventional hormone therapy is not allowed in such p...

Conventional Versus Hypofractionated Radiotherapy in Node Positive Breast Cancer

Breast cancer patients operated with modified radical mastectomy or breast conservative surgery will be randomized for either adjuvant conventional radiotherapy versus hypofractionated rad...

Shorter Course Radiation for the Treatment of Breast Cancer That Has Spread to Lymph Nodes

The proposed study is being done to learn more about a particular dose of radiation treatment for breast cancer that is completed in a shorter amount of time than what has traditionally be...

A Breast Cancer Information Registry for Participants With Breast Cancer or Characteristics of Hereditary Breast Cancer

Mucin 2 (MUC2) modulates the aggressiveness of breast cancer.

Tumors that secrete large volumes of mucus are chemotherapy resistant, however, mechanisms underlying this resistance are unknown. One protein highly expressed in mucin secreting breast cancers is the...

A new look at molecular biology of breast cancer.

In the past 25 years, incidence rates of breast cancer have risen about 30% in westernized countries. Mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 are the most prominent cause of breast cancer. However, these cancer...

The Influence of Patient Exposure to Breast Reconstruction Approaches and Education on Patient Choices in Breast Cancer Treatment.

The landscape of surgical and medical management and patient choices for breast cancer treatment changes as breast reconstruction and oncoplastic approaches improve and diversify. Increased access to ...

The Significance of the Stromal Response in Breast Cancer: An Immunohistochemical Study of Myofibroblasts in Primary and Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Gene expression profiling of breast cancer has demonstrated the importance of stromal response in determining the prognosis of invasive breast cancer. The host response to breast cancer is of increasi...

Homologous recombination deficiency and host anti-tumor immunity in triple-negative breast cancer.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is associated with worse outcomes relative to other breast cancer subtypes. Chemotherapy remains the standard-of-care systemic therapy for patients with localized ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Abnormal accumulation of lymph in the arm, shoulder and breast area associated with surgical or radiation breast cancer treatments (e.g., MASTECTOMY).

Metastatic breast cancer characterized by EDEMA and ERYTHEMA of the affected breast due to LYMPHATIC METASTASIS and eventual obstruction of LYMPHATIC VESSELS by the cancer cells.

A deoxycytidine derivative and fluorouracil PRODRUG that is used as an ANTINEOPLASTIC ANTIMETABOLITE in the treatment of COLON CANCER; BREAST CANCER and GASTRIC CANCER.

A infiltrating (invasive) breast cancer, relatively uncommon, accounting for only 5%-10% of breast tumors in most series. It is often an area of ill-defined thickening in the breast, in contrast to the dominant lump characteristic of ductal carcinoma. It is typically composed of small cells in a linear arrangement with a tendency to grow around ducts and lobules. There is likelihood of axillary nodal involvement with metastasis to meningeal and serosal surfaces. (DeVita Jr et al., Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology, 3d ed, p1205)

Carbohydrate antigen elevated in patients with tumors of the breast, ovary, lung, and prostate as well as other disorders. The mucin is expressed normally by most glandular epithelia but shows particularly increased expression in the breast at lactation and in malignancy. It is thus an established serum marker for breast cancer.
