Therapeutic Targeting of Sex Differences in Pediatric Brain Tumor Glycolysis

2018-07-26 12:30:17 | BioPortfolio

Summary

The investigators will develop the concept of a sex-specific therapeutic intervention for gliomas that is based upon dietary carbohydrate restriction. The investigators will integrate metabolomics tools and FDG-PET imaging to validate the ketogenic diet on a sex-specific basis.

Ketogenic Diet in Children With Malignant or Recurrent/Refractory Brain Tumor

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of the ketogenic diet on tumor size and quality of life in pediatric patients with malignant or recurrent/refractory brain tumors.

Ketogenic Diet Program for Epilepsy

This study will assess the effectiveness of the ketogenic diet (high-fat, low-carbohydrate, and moderate protein) in treating epilepsy. Two study groups will be comprised of children with ...

Ketogenic Diet Therapy for Autism Spectrum Disorder

This study will assess the effectiveness of the ketogenic diet (high-fat, low-carbohydrate, and moderate protein) in treating autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Three study groups will be com...

Strict Classic Ketogenic Diet as a Therapy for Recurrent or Progressive and Refractory Brain Tumors in Children

This is a pilot study to test the feasibility of implementing a strict classic ketogenic diet among a population of children with recurrent or progressive and refractory brain tumors. Elig...

The Ketogenic Diet for Pediatric Acute Brain Injury

This is a prospective pilot study evaluating the safety and feasibility of implementing the ketogenic diet in children admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit with acute brain injury...

The Therapeutic Potential of Ketogenic Diet Throughout Life: Focus on Metabolic, Neurodevelopmental and Neurodegenerative Disorders.

This chapter reviews the efficacy of the ketogenic diet in a variety of neurodegenerative, neurodevelopmental and metabolic conditions throughout different stages of life. It describes conditions affe...

Initiating the ketogenic diet in infants with treatment refractory epilepsy while maintaining a breast milk diet.

The ketogenic diet has been found to be safe and effective in the treatment of drug resistant epilepsy in childhood. The age range of children undergoing this treatment has steadily been going down. T...

Glucose and Lipid Homeostasis and Inflammation in Humans Following an Isocaloric Ketogenic Diet.

The objective of this study was to measure changes in glucose, lipid, and inflammation parameters after transitioning from a baseline diet (BD) to an isocaloric ketogenic diet (KD).

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A course of food intake that is high in FATS and low in CARBOHYDRATES. This diet provides sufficient PROTEINS for growth but insufficient amount of carbohydrates for the energy needs of the body. A ketogenic diet generates 80-90% of caloric requirements from fats and the remainder from proteins.

A diet that contains limited amounts of CARBOHYDRATES. This is in distinction to a regular DIET.

Regular course of eating and drinking adopted by a person or animal. This does not include DIET THERAPY, a specific diet prescribed in the treatment of a disease.
