Efficacy of CLR Compared to Fosfomycin Trometamol in Acute Lower uUTIs

To demonstrate non-inferiority of a non-antibiotic therapy with CLR versus an antibiotic treatment with fosfomycin trometamol in women suffering from acute lower uUTIs as measured by the p...

Study Evaluating the Safety and Efficacy of Tigecycline in Hospitalized Patients With cIAI

In light of tigecycline's activity against these resistant bacteria, tigecycline may represent a viable new therapy for complicated intra-abdominal infections.

A Study of Plazomicin Compared With Colistin in Patients With Infection Due to Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)

This is a Phase 3, randomized, open-label superiority study comparing the efficacy and safety of plazomicin with colistin when combined with a second antibiotic (either meropenem or tigecy...

Single Dose Monurol for Treatment of Acute Cystitis

Urinary tract infecton (UTI) is a very common problem in young healthy women, afflicting approximately one-half of women by their late 20's. One of the most common antibiotics used to tre...

Antibiotic-resistant Bacterial Infection of Hepatic Patients

the investigators want to identify the microbial profile, antibiotic resistant bacteria in hepatic patients with infections in Liver ICU, and explore risk factors and outcomes in those pat...

Delirium induced by tigecycline treatment for Acinetobacter baumannii infection: A case report.

Tigecycline is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent structurally belong to tetracyclines and covers against many multidrug-resistant organisms. Arising clinical cases reporting its adverse drug reacti...

Best tigecycline dosing for treatment of infections caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens in critically ill patients with different body weights.

The intensive care unit (ICU) is a center of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens. This is due to overuse of antibiotics in the treatment of critically ill patients. Tigecycline is a broad-spectrum ant...

Early use of polymyxin B reduces the mortality of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae bloodstream infection.

Polymyxin B is one of the last resort option for carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) bloodstream infection in China. Therefore, the timing of administration of polymyxin is frequently de...

Mechanistic Insights From Global Metabolomics Studies into Synergistic Bactericidal Effect of a Polymyxin B Combination With Tamoxifen Against Cystic Fibrosis MDR .

Polymyxins are amongst the most important antibiotics in modern medicine, in recent times their clinical utility has been overshadowed by nosocomial outbreaks of polymyxin resistant MDR Gram-negative ...

The polymyxin derivative NAB739 is synergistic with several antibiotics against polymyxin-resistant strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Acinetobacter baumannii.

The antibiotic crisis has reinstated polymyxins, once abandoned because of their toxicity. Now, preclinical studies have revealed better tolerated and more effective derivatives of polymyxins such as ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

An antibiotic produced by Streptomyces fradiae.

Strains of the genus Enterococcus that are resistant to the antibiotic VANCOMYCIN. The enterococci become resistant by acquiring plasmids carrying genes for VANCOMYCIN RESISTANCE.

A mixture of polymyxins B1 and B2, obtained from Bacillus polymyxa strains. They are basic polypeptides of about eight amino acids and have cationic detergent action on cell membranes. Polymyxin B is used for infections with gram-negative organisms, but may be neurotoxic and nephrotoxic.

Cyclic polypeptide antibiotic from Bacillus colistinus. It is composed of Polymyxins E1 and E2 (or Colistins A, B, and C) which act as detergents on cell membranes. Colistin is less toxic than Polymyxin B, but otherwise similar; the methanesulfonate is used orally.

A cephalosporin antibiotic that is administered intravenously or intramuscularly. It is active against most common gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, is a potent inhibitor of Enterobacteriaceae, and is highly resistant to hydrolysis by beta-lactamases. The drug has a high rate of efficacy in many types of infection and to date no severe side effects have been noted.
