2019-09-25 06:13:32 | BioPortfolio

Summary

This study is part of the East Jakarta Cohort Study to assess the current micronutrient status of the mothers and their children. The study also includes the assessment of genotyping of MTHFR 677C-->T of the mother and DNA methylation of IGF2 gene of the children.

Description

The initial study recruited 315 mothers in the public health center and one district hospital in East Jakarta. The follow-up study is able to re-visit the 127 of them. The design of the study is case-cohort design, part study of the existing cohort. The assessment of the follow-up study include the mother and the children born in the initial study. Anthropometric measurement, socioeconomic data from a structured questionnaire, biomarker assessment were obtained from the subjects.

A Study of Serum Folate Levels in Patients Treated With Olaparib

This is a study investigating folate deficiency (lack of folic acid in the blood) in patients who take the drug olaparib to treat their advanced ovarian or breast cancer. The primary goal ...

Studying the Association Between Folic Acid Deficiency and Social Isolation for Elderly Patients

Social isolation among elderly people is a frequent and major determinant for health. The risk of premature death is 2 to 5 time higher for socially isolated people, similarly for morbidi...

Treatment and Prevention of Anemia With Ferrous Sulfate Plus Folic Acid in Children in Goiania - Goias, Brazil

Iron deficiency anemia is the most common nutritional problem in the world. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the prevalence of anemia in children from 6 to 24 months of age and...

Bioavailability Study of Folic Acid in Healthy Women

The purpose of the study is to determine the bioavailability of orally administered folic acid compared with the i.v. administered folic acid, and to use the samples collected to validate ...

Relationship Between Folic Acid and Warfarin Metabolism and Effect

Folic acid supplementation has been shown previously to be associated with enhanced formation of p-HPPH from phenytoin, a metabolic pathway which is predominantly mediated through the acti...

Preparation, Characterization and Release studies of Folic Acid from Inulin Conjugates.

Folic acid a synthetic form of folate, is the oxidized form of folate which acts as a coenzyme in one carbon transfer reactions required in the biosynthesis of DNA and RNA and its deficiency could be ...

Nation-wide failure of voluntary folic acid fortification of corn masa flour and tortillas with folic acid.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) required all enriched cereal grains to be fortified with folic acid in 1998. In April 2016, the FDA published regulations allowing voluntary fortif...

Effect of Vitamin B Levels on the Association Between Folic Acid Treatment and CKD Progression: A Post Hoc Analysis of a Folic Acid Interventional Trial.

In populations with folic acid fortification or supplementation, the main nutritional determinant of total homocysteine levels is vitamin B (B12) status. We aimed to evaluate the modifying effect of B...

One step hydrothermal functionalization of gold nanoparticles with folic acid.

A new fundamental concept for one-step in-situ functionalization of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) with folic acid using hydrothermal treatment is described. Hydrothermal treatment has been tuned to increa...

Voluntary folic acid fortification levels of food staples in Ireland continue to decline: further implications for passive folic acid intakes?

Ireland previously had widespread voluntary fortification but research at Dublin City University carried out in 2014 by our research group demonstrated a major decline in the number of food staples fo...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A nutritional condition produced by a deficiency of FOLIC ACID in the diet. Many plant and animal tissues contain folic acid, abundant in green leafy vegetables, yeast, liver, and mushrooms but destroyed by long-term cooking. Alcohol interferes with its intermediate metabolism and absorption. Folic acid deficiency may develop in long-term anticonvulsant therapy or with use of oral contraceptives. This deficiency causes anemia, macrocytic anemia, and megaloblastic anemia. It is indistinguishable from vitamin B 12 deficiency in peripheral blood and bone marrow findings, but the neurologic lesions seen in B 12 deficiency do not occur. (Merck Manual, 16th ed)

The active metabolite of FOLIC ACID. Leucovorin is used principally as its calcium salt as an antidote to folic acid antagonists which block the conversion of folic acid to folinic acid.

Red blood cell precursors, corresponding to ERYTHROBLASTS, that are larger than normal, usually resulting from a FOLIC ACID DEFICIENCY or VITAMIN B 12 DEFICIENCY.

Cell surface receptors that bind to and transport FOLIC ACID, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, and a variety of folic acid derivatives. The receptors are essential for normal NEURAL TUBE development and transport folic acid via receptor-mediated endocytosis.

Measurement of this acid in the urine after oral administration of histidine provides the basis for the diagnostic test of folic acid deficiency and of megaloblastic anemia of pregnancy.
