A 12-week Study to Compare the Efficacy and Safety of Fixed Combinations of Fenofibrate/Simvastatin 145/20mg and Fenofibrate/Simvastatin 145/40mg Tablets Versus Fenofibrate or Simvastatin Monotherapies in Subjects With Abnormal Blood Levels of Fats (Lipid

This is a double-blind, randomized study designed to compare the efficacy and safety of two fixed combinations of fenofibrate / simvastatin 145/20 mg and fenofibrate / simvastatin 145/40 ...

Omega 3 Fatty Acid Trial

This study is being done to detect the metabolic changes that Omega 3 fatty acid treatment has on the brain and to find out whether magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) scan can detect me...

The Effects of Omega-3 Fatty Acid (OMACOR) on the Low-density Lipoprotein (LDL) Sub-fraction in Type 2 Diabetic Patients

The purpose of this study is to verify the possible effects of OMACOR(omega-3 fatty acid) on the percentage change of small dense LDL fraction in type 2 diabetic patients with combined hyp...

The Omega-3 Fatty Acid Paediatric Depression Trial

This study investigates the therapeutic efficacy and safety of omega-3 fatty acids rich in eicosapentaenoic acid / docosahexaenoic acid in pediatric depression in a nine months double-blin...

The Effect of Omega-3 FA on Glucose and Lipid Homeostasis Disorders in Obese/Diabetic Patients

A double-blind and placebo-controlled study was conducted in current human study. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of n-3 PUFA intervention on glucose and lipid hom...

Genetic profiling of fatty acid desaturase polymorphisms identifies patients who may benefit from high-dose omega-3 fatty acids in cardiac remodeling after acute myocardial infarction-Post-hoc analysis from the OMEGA-REMODEL randomized controlled trial.

The double-blind OMEGA-REMODEL placebo-controlled randomized trial of high-dose omega-3 fatty acids (O-3FA) post-acute myocardial infarction (AMI) reported improved cardiac remodeling and attenuation ...

Production of High-Value Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Using Microbial Cultures.

Microbes can produce not only commodity fatty acids, such as palmitic acid (16:0) and stearic acid (18:0), but also high-value fatty acids (essential fatty acids). Most high value fatty acids belong t...

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid intake norms and preterm birth rate: a cross-sectional analysis of 184 countries.

The preponderance of evidence now indicates that elevated long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (LC omega-3 PUFA) intake is often associated with reduced risk of preterm birth (PTB). This conc...

Leukoencephalomyelopathy in cats linked to abnormal fatty acid composition of the white matter of the spinal cord and of irradiated dry cat food.

Four outbreaks of leukoencephalomyelopathy in colonies of SPF cats on a long-term diet of irradiated dry cat food were observed in the Netherlands between 1989 and 2001. As a primary defect in myelin ...

Relationship between Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acid Intake and COPD Morbidity.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

FATTY ACIDS which have the first unsaturated bond in the sixth position from the omega carbon. A typical American diet tends to contain substantially more omega-6 than OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS.

A group of fatty acids, often of marine origin, which have the first unsaturated bond in the third position from the omega carbon. These fatty acids are believed to reduce serum triglycerides, prevent insulin resistance, improve lipid profile, prolong bleeding times, reduce platelet counts, and decrease platelet adhesiveness.

An omega-6 fatty acid produced in the body as the delta 6-desaturase metabolite of linoleic acid. It is converted to dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid, a biosynthetic precursor of monoenoic prostaglandins such as PGE1. (From Merck Index, 11th ed)

A pharmaceutical preparation of ezetimibe and simvastatin that is used in the treatment of HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA and HYPERLIPIDEMIAS.

An unsaturated fatty acid that is the most widely distributed and abundant fatty acid in nature. It is used commercially in the preparation of oleates and lotions, and as a pharmaceutical solvent. (Stedman, 26th ed)
