COMPLETE: International Acute Ischemic Stroke Registry With the Penumbra System Aspiration Including the 3D Revascularization Device

The purpose of this study is to collect real-world performance and safety data on the Penumbra System including the 3D Revascularization Device in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS)...

European Registry on the ACE Reperfusion Catheters and the Penumbra System in the Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke

Prospective, single-arm, multicenter, observational registry of the ACE Reperfusion Catheters and the Penumbra System in Europe. Consecutive patients presenting within 6 hours from symptom...

Study to Assess the Safety and Effectiveness of the Penumbra System

This clinical evaluation is a prospective, single-arm, multi-center trial. The purpose of this clinical evaluation is to assess the safety and effectiveness of the Penumbra System in the ...

Mechanical Retrieval and Recanalization of Stroke Clots Using Embolectomy

The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of treating acute ischemic stroke with mechanical embolectomy using the Merci Retriever or the Penumbra System within 8 hours of s...

Safety and Efficacy of the Penumbra™ System in Acute Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA) Stroke

Stroke prognosis is intimately related to reperfusion. Reperfusion in acute setting can be achieved with different strategies - varying from intravenous rtPA from mechanical thrombectomy. ...

Expression of Histone Deacetylases HDAC1 and HDAC2 and Their Role in Apoptosis in the Penumbra Induced by Photothrombotic Stroke.

In ischemic stroke, vascular occlusion rapidly induces tissue infarct. Over the ensuing hours, damage spreads to adjacent tissue and forms transition zone (penumbra), which is potentially salvageable....

Apoptosis regulation in the penumbra after ischemic stroke: expression of pro- and antiapoptotic proteins.

Ischemic stroke is the leading cause of human disability and mortality in the world. The main problem in stroke therapy is the search of efficient neuroprotector capable to rescue neurons in the poten...

Role of acute-phase protein ORM in a mice model of ischemic stroke.

The only Food and Drug Administration-approved treatment for acute ischemic stroke is tissue plasminogen activator, and the discovery of novel therapeutic targets is critical. Here, we found orosomuco...

Initial Experience of ACE68 Reperfusion Catheter in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke Related to Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion.

Penumbra ACE68 reperfusion catheter is a new large bore aspiration catheter used for reperfusion of large vessel occlusion. The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of this catheter...

Development of research on mechanisms of acupuncture intervention and relationship between astrocyte and ischemic stroke.

Astrocytes are the most abundant cells in the central nervous system, which has been demonstrated to be one of the targets for the treatment of ischemic stroke. Many studies have confirmed that acupun...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

The application of repeated, brief periods of vascular occlusion at the onset of REPERFUSION to reduce REPERFUSION INJURY that follows a prolonged ischemic event. The techniques are similar to ISCHEMIC PRECONDITIONING but the time of application is after the ischemic event instead of before.

A drug combination of aspirin and dipyridamole that functions as a PLATELET AGGREGATION INHIBITOR, used to prevent THROMBOSIS and STROKE in TRANSIENT ISCHEMIC ATTACK patients.

Ischemic injury to the OPTIC NERVE which usually affects the OPTIC DISK (optic neuropathy, anterior ischemic) and less frequently the retrobulbar portion of the nerve (optic neuropathy, posterior ischemic). The injury results from occlusion of arterial blood supply which may result from TEMPORAL ARTERITIS; ATHEROSCLEROSIS; COLLAGEN DISEASES; EMBOLISM; DIABETES MELLITUS; and other conditions. The disease primarily occurs in the sixth decade or later and presents with the sudden onset of painless and usually severe monocular visual loss. Anterior ischemic optic neuropathy also features optic disk edema with microhemorrhages. The optic disk appears normal in posterior ischemic optic neuropathy. (Glaser, Neuro-Ophthalmology, 2nd ed, p135)

Restoration of functions to the maximum degree possible in a person or persons suffering from a stroke.

Restoration of blood supply to tissue which is ischemic due to decrease in normal blood supply. The decrease may result from any source including atherosclerotic obstruction, narrowing of the artery, or surgical clamping. It is primarily a procedure for treating infarction or other ischemia, by enabling viable ischemic tissue to recover, thus limiting further necrosis. However, it is thought that reperfusion can itself further damage the ischemic tissue, causing REPERFUSION INJURY.
