PF-04191834 works in animal models by inhibiting one of the enzymes, 5-lipoxygenasein which is involved in the pathway that causes inflammation and pain. The purpose of this study is to test how effective, safe and tolerated PF-04191834 is in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee by itself or with naproxen, particularly to test if patients have less pain.
Allocation: Randomized, Endpoint Classification: Safety/Efficacy Study, Intervention Model: Crossover Assignment, Masking: Double Blind (Subject, Investigator), Primary Purpose: Treatment

The purpose of this study is to provide an initial assessment of the gastrointestinal safety of a 7-day regimen of PLA-695 compared to placebo or naproxen.
PH-797804 is a potent inhibitor of inflammatory mediators that have a potential role in pain signalling following nerve injury and inflammation. Blocking such mediators may potentially ha...

The placebo effect is usually studied in clinical settings for decreasing negative symptoms such as pain, depression and anxiety. There is interest in exploring the placebo effect also outside the cli...

Although placebo analgesia is a well-recognized phenomenon with important clinical implications, the possibility that placebo effects occur during sleep has received little attention. This experimenta...
Recent evidence indicates that placebo effects can occur even when patients know that they are taking a placebo, termed the open-label placebo effect.
Use of protective angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE-I) in patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is sometimes limited by incident coughing. In clinical trials cough occurred also on p...
Misunderstanding among individuals, frequently research subjects, of scientific methods such as randomization and placebo controls.
An effect usually, but not necessarily, beneficial that is attributable to an expectation that the regimen will have an effect, i.e., the effect is due to the power of suggestion.
