Global Effects of a Probiotic Strain on Lactating Women

2014-07-23 21:09:04 | BioPortfolio

Summary

In this study, the investigators will try to confirm if application of probiotic strains isolated from breast milk actually have a beneficial effect on women suffering lactational mastitis. This project has been design to offer an integrated vision of the effects of probiotherapy (Lactobacillus fermentum CECT5716) on the human host. Therefore, the investigators propose a multidisciplinary approach involving the application of microbiological, immunological, genomic, metagenomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic techniques. The hypothesis is that probiotherapy will cause different effects on the host, and the objective is the finding of markers that may support the beneficial effect of the strain in such condition.

Complete genome analysis of Lactobacillus fermentum SK152 from kimchi reveals genes associated with its antimicrobial activity.

Research findings on probiotics highlight their importance in repressing harmful bacteria, leading to more extensive research on their potential applications. We analysed the genome of Lactobacillus f...

Characterization of a d-Lactate Dehydrogenase from Lactobacillus fermentum JN248 with High Phenylpyruvate Reductive Activity.

Phenyllactic acid (PLA) is a novel antimicrobial compound. A novel NADH-dependent d-lactate dehydrogenase (d-LDH), named as LF-d-LDH0653, with high phenylpyruvate (PPA) reducing activity was isolated ...

Ethanol addition enhances acid treatment to eliminate Lactobacillus fermentum from the fermentation process for fuel ethanol production.

Fermentation is one of the most critical steps of the fuel ethanol production and it is directly influenced by the fermentation system, selected yeast, and bacterial contamination, especially from the...

The performance of five fruit-derived and freeze-dried potentially probiotic Lactobacillus strains in apple, orange and grape juices.

This study assessed the survival of the fruit-derived and freeze-dried L. plantarum 49, L. brevis 59, L. paracasei 108, L. fermentum 111 and L. pentosus 129 strains during frozen storage and when inco...

Effects of feedstock and co-culture of Lactobacillus fermentum and wild Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain during fuel ethanol fermentation by the industrial yeast strain PE-2.

Even though contamination by bacteria and wild yeasts are frequently observed during fuel ethanol fermentation, our knowledge regarding the effects of both contaminants together is very limited, espec...
