Effects of Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) as a Treatment of Persistent Depression With Comorbid Personality Disorders (Impulse-VNS

2014-08-27 03:13:53 | BioPortfolio

Summary

In this monocentre two-armed double blind randomised placebo-controlled study - in which the control group obtains the VNS therapy within a defined space of time after 12 weeks - the impact of vagus nerve stimulation on depressive symptomatology of patients with therapy-resistant depressive personality disorders shall be analysed. Particularly in comorbid disorders, medicamentous treatment shows exceedingly bad response rates. Against the background of hitherto insufficient treatment strategies for chronic or persistent depression with comorbidities, the proceeding of a study on the effects of VNS on depressive patients with comorbid disorders is absolutely essential.

Comparison of Pulse Chips and Commercial Snacks on Food Intake, Appetite and Blood Glucose in Healthy Young Adults

Consumers are often forced to eat fast, convenient foods and snacks ("eat on the go") in order to match the pace of their lifestyles. However, these snack options more often than not offer...

Oxitone Sp02 Hypoxia Test Versus Reference Pulse Oximetry

The purpose of this study is to conduct a SpO2 hypoxia evaluation of the Oxitone Medical Oxitone 1000 pulse oximeter. The Oxitone 1000 pulse oximeter will be evaluated during non-motion co...

Study on Changes of Pulse Oximeter Plethysmographic Amplitude Induced by Respiration in Pediatric Patients

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the variations of respiratory changes in pulse oximeter plethysmographic amplitude (delta POP) according to different contact forces between finger...

Accuracy of Pulse Oximeters With Profound Hypoxia

The aim of this project is to test the accuracy of pulse oximeters during mild, moderate and severe hypoxia. This is done by comparing the reading of the pulse oximeter during brief, stead...

Fetal Pulse Oximetry Trial (FOX)

The purpose of this study is to determine if the information provided to the physician by a fetal pulse oximeter during labor will reduce the chances of a cesarean delivery.

Modeling associations between latent event processes governing time series of pulsing hormones.

This work is motivated by a desire to quantify relationships between two time series of pulsing hormone concentrations. The locations of pulses are not directly observed and may be considered latent e...

A new model for volume recombination in plane-parallel chambers in pulsed fields of high dose-per-pulse.

In order to describe the volume recombination in a pulsed radiation field of high dose-per-pulse this study presents a numerical solution of a 1-D transport model of the liberated charges in a plane-p...

Accuracy of Smartphone-Based Pulse Oximetry Compared with Hospital-Grade Pulse Oximetry in Healthy Children.

Pulse oximetry, a ubiquitous, noninvasive method to monitor oxygen saturation (SpO2), requires larger, nonportable equipment. Smartphone pulse oximeter applications (apps) provide a portable, cost-eff...

Electrosorption enhanced electrooxidation of a model organic pollutant at 3D SnO2-Sb electrode in superimposed pulse current mode.

In this work, the novel pulse "electrosorption-electrooxidation-electrosorption" (PESO) mode is developed in the superimposed pulse current system for benzoic acid oxidation. Due to the synergistic ef...

Pulse stretcher with two beamsplitting elements for excimer laser pulses.

A pulse stretcher with two beamsplitting elements and an optical ring cavity is proposed. With a two-beamsplitting-element configuration, the temporal profile of the stretched output pulse is effectiv...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Use of a pulse of X-rays or fast electrons to generate free radicals for spectroscopic examination.

Statistical formulations or analyses which, when applied to data and found to fit the data, are then used to verify the assumptions and parameters used in the analysis. Examples of statistical models are the linear model, binomial model, polynomial model, two-parameter model, etc.

Evaluation of the contour of the PULSE waves which vary in different parts of the circulation and depend on physiological as well as pathophysiological conditions of the individual.

Technique used in AYURVEDIC MEDICINE, and EAST ASIAN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE, in which reading PULSE is used in the diagnosis of diseases.

Theoretical models simulating behavior or activities in nursing, including nursing care, management and economics, theory, assessment, research, and education. Some examples of these models include Orem Self-Care Model, Roy Adaptation Model, and Rogers Life Process Model.
