The aim of the study is to progress in the understanding of the early retinal vascular and neural abnormalities in patients with diabetes, using a new device, the Dynamic Vessel Analyzer. The Dynamic Vessel Analyzer allows to measure the diameter of the retinal vessels and to assess how it varies in presence of various stimuli. Then, we will be able to assess if a vascular and/or a neural dysfunction is present early in patient with diabetes.
Twenty patients with type 1 diabetes without diabetic retinopathy and without arterial hypertension will be compared with 20 sex and aged-matched healthy control subjects. To assess the presence of retinal endothelial dysfunction, the variations of the diameters of the retinal vessels will be assessed using the Dynamic Vessel Analyzer, before and after flicker light stimulation, sublingual nitroglycerin, neosynephrine eyedrops, and isometric contraction. To assess the presence of peripheral endothelial dysfunction, the microcirculation of the forearm skin will be studied using iontophoresis with acetylcholine delivery, and heat delivery, both coupled with blood flow measurement using laser Doppler. An intravital capillaroscopy of the phalanx skin will be performed. The serum levels of CRP, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, VEGF and endostatin will also be measured.
Allocation: Non-Randomized, Control: Uncontrolled, Endpoint Classification: Pharmacodynamics Study, Intervention Model: Parallel Assignment, Masking: Open Label, Primary Purpose: Treatment

This small feasibility study will evaluate the use of hydrogel electrode pads (rather than tap water baths) to deliver iontophoresis treatment using a traditional iontophoresis device. Par...
This study attempts to test capillary responses to various challenges without the need for iontophoresis (electrical current).
The intent of this double-blinded study is to investigate the short (2 months) and long-term (over 2 months) therapeutic capabilities of Iontophoresis.
Assess the effect of iontophoresis of treprostinil on wound closure over 12 weeks, in patients with DFU. In the present study the investigators aim at establishing the proof-of-concept of...
Early investigations in drug delivery of onabotulinumtoxinA using combined fractional ablative laser with impact ultrasound versus injections of onabotulinumtoxinA for palmar hyperhidrosis: a right-left comparison trial.
SIR, we evaluated whether laser-assisted drug delivery (LADD) of onabotulinumtoxinA using combined fractional ablative laser with impact ultrasound was capable of reducing palmar sweat production. Pal...

Delivering solutes to a particular region of the brain is currently achieved by iontophoresis for very small volumes and by diffusion from a microdialysis probe for larger volumes. There is a need to ...
Vesicular amine transporter proteins that transport the neurotransmitter ACETYLCHOLINE into small SECRETORY VESICLES. Proteins of this family contain 12 transmembrane domains and exchange vesicular PROTONS for cytoplasmic acetylcholine.
Compounds that block release of the neurotransmitter ACETYLCHOLINE.
A member of the NICOTINIC ACETYLCHOLINE RECEPTOR subfamily of the LIGAND-GATED ION CHANNEL family. It consists entirely of pentameric α7 subunits expressed in the CNS, autonomic nervous system, vascular system, lymphocytes and spleen.
The care of a fetus or newborn given before, during, and after delivery from the 28th week of gestation through the 7th day after delivery.
A neurotransmitter. Acetylcholine in vertebrates is the major transmitter at neuromuscular junctions, autonomic ganglia, parasympathetic effector junctions, a subset of sympathetic effector junctions, and at many sites in the central nervous system. It is generally not used as an administered drug because it is broken down very rapidly by cholinesterases, but it is useful in some ophthalmological applications.
Blood is a specialized bodily fluid that delivers necessary substances to the body's cells (in animals) – such as nutrients and oxygen – and transports waste products away from those same cells. In vertebrates, it is composed of blo...
