Cerebellar rTMS for the Treatment of Schizophrenic Patients

2014-08-27 03:15:47 | BioPortfolio

Summary

The primary aim of this protocol is to determine whether the use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) over vermis of the cerebellum may be safe and therapeutically effective in patients with schizophrenia. Because this is the first evaluation of this treatment in this population, the focus of this study is safety.

Rapid Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation for OCD

The purpose of this study is to understand how cortical stimulation affects Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) symptoms.

Accelerated rTMS for the Reduction of Nicotine Craving

The purpose if this study is to determine if five treatments of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can reduce craving for cigarettes in smokers. rTMS uses magnetic pulses ...

A Study of rTMS for Cognitive Deficits in Chronic Patients With Schizophrenia

In this study, we assessed the therapeutic effects and safety of left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on negative ...

Effects of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) on Cannabis Use and Cognitive Outcomes in Schizophrenia

The high prevalence of cannabis and other substance use disorders are a major barrier to recovery in people with schizophrenia. Moreover, schizophrenia patients have significant deficits i...

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) in the Treatment of First Rank Symptoms (FRS) on Schizophrenia

First rank symptoms are core symptoms of schizophrenia. the investigators want to offer an integrative approach to better understanding of the mechanisms involved in the first rank symptom...

Efficacy of high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on PANSS factors in schizophrenia with predominant negative symptoms - Results from an exploratory re-analysis.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) applied to the left frontal lobe is discussed to be a promising add-on treatment for negative symptoms in schizophrenia. The Positive and Negative S...

Relationship between rTMS effects and MEP features before rTMS.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a promising method for use in the clinical field, as it can induce modulation of cortical excitability. Generally, rTMS inhibits the motor cortex...

Brain Age in Early Stages of Bipolar Disorders or Schizophrenia.

The greater presence of neurodevelopmental antecedants may differentiate schizophrenia from bipolar disorders (BD). Machine learning/pattern recognition allows us to estimate the biological age of the...

Neuroanatomical heterogeneity of schizophrenia revealed by semi-supervised machine learning methods.

Schizophrenia is associated with heterogeneous clinical symptoms and neuroanatomical alterations. In this work, we aim to disentangle the patterns of neuroanatomical alterations underlying a heterogen...

Early symptom improvement at 10 sessions as a predictor of rTMS treatment outcome in major depression.

Predicting rTMS nonresponse could be helpful in sparing patients from futile treatment, and in improving use of limited rTMS resources. While several predictive biomarkers have been proposed, few are ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Apparatus that provides mechanical circulatory support during open-heart surgery, by passing the heart to facilitate surgery on the organ. The basic function of the machine is to oxygenate the body's venous supply of blood and then pump it back into the arterial system. The machine also provides intracardiac suction, filtration, and temperature control. Some of the more important components of these machines include pumps, oxygenators, temperature regulators, and filters. (UMDNS, 1999)

A system in which the functions of the man and the machine are interrelated and necessary for the operation of the system.

A MACHINE LEARNING paradigm used to make predictions about future instances based on a given set of unlabeled paired input-output training (sample) data.

A MACHINE LEARNING paradigm used to make predictions about future instances based on a given set of labeled paired input-output training (sample) data.

A chronic form of schizophrenia characterized primarily by the presence of persecutory or grandiose delusions, often associated with hallucination.
