Remifentanil provides analgesia, suppresses airway reflex, has little effect on cognitive function. It can be used for conscious sedation during awake nasotracheal fiberoptic intubation. Target-controlled infusion is more reliable technique for maintaining optimal infusion rate than manual controlled infusion.
